After navigating the various traps, robots and killer plants, Sonic was lured into a level where he was ejected from the fortress and Mount Mobius via a hidden spring.[2]

Lava Story

The following year, Mecha Sonic imprisoned Tails there as part of his bid to get revenge on Sonic, but ended up saving both Freedom Fighters from an eruption at the cost of his own life.[1][3]
