Momma Robotnik, also called Mama Robotnik, is a character that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. She is a human and the mother of the infamous Dr. Robotnik. She is usually kept in the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers, though she tends to escape from there from time to time. Her viciousness is enough to scare even Robotnik himself and Sonic considers her his second-greatest enemy.[2]

Momma Robotnik bears a large resemblance to her son; she is a large and overweight humanoid Mobian with black eyes with red irises, black scleras and a pink nose. For attire, she wears a bulging pink dress, a large green hat, and black heels. She also takes a green umbrella with her. She even occasionally wears lipstick.
She possesses a large, orange mustache just like her son. On a few occasions, she did not have it. She often had lipstick, but in her debut, she didn't.

Over twenty years ago, Momma Robotnik lived in a house in Chaos City with her son, Doctor Robotnik, when the latter was just an infant. When the family moved, Momma Robotnik left her son's favorite toy, the Fuzzy Wuzzy, in that house. Apparently, this act made Dr. Robotnik the villain he became today according to her, although it may not be accurate as she told the story to Tails in order to lure him into a trap.[1] At some point in the past, Momma Robotnik was taken to the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers due to her low level of care for her son.
Season one[]

On her birthday, Momma Robotnik escaped from the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers and went to her son's fortress, much for the latter's surprise. She wanted him to destroy the entire Mobius National Park, although the project was halted due to Sonic the Hedgehog's interferences. Later, she decided to kidnap Tails, Sonic's best friend, as use him as bait to catch Sonic. However, due to her own son, the plan did not work. She was then found by the staff of the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers and taken back to the home.[1]
Tired of being asked by her friends about when her son would defeat Sonic and conquer Mobius, Momma Robotnik escaped from the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers, took over her son's fortress and his creations (including a transmitter that controlled every machine on Mobius), and managed to adopt Sonic and Tails as her sons. Momma Robotnik then forced Sonic to do a large series of chores while threatening that, if he did not obey her, she would drop Tails into a bottomless pit. Meanwhile, she would use her son's transmitter to take over every machine on the planet. However, due to Dr. Robotnik and Sonic's interference, her intentions were revealed to the law, and she was taken back to the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers.[2] Sometime later, Momma Robotnik would assist her son with his evil plan to trick Sonic into thinking he had retired".[3]
Later, Momma Robotnik was invited by Sonic to Dr. Robotnik's marriage with Katella, and went to the latter's ship, where the ceremony was being held. Angry that Katella did not invite her, she started a violent fight with her. Upset, Katella cancelled the marriage, dumped Dr. Robotnik, Momma Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder out of her ship, and flew away. When the doctor asked her of why she went to the ceremony, she told him that an unknown person told her that her son was being married and would ruin his life. When Robotnik told her the truth that Katella forced him to marry her, Momma Robotnik got angry because he told the truth since she had raised him to "always lie" and started to punish him by spanking him with an umbrella.[4]

Sometime later, realizing that one of her friends' sons became president of his garden club, Momma Robotnik escaped from the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers and went to her son's fortress, forcing him to become elected as the president of Mobius. This also made Sonic run a campaign to become president of the planet as well. However, when Sonic managed to become president, the doctor realized that his mother voted for the hedgehog, as she thought that her son could not do anything right. Angry over this, Robotnik called the staff of the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers and had them take his mother back to the asylum again.[5]
Personality[]
Momma Robotnik is mean, evil, cruel, and terrifying. She is almost always furiously annoyed and ready to burst into anger at any moment. She is criminally insane and disdains anything normal or pleasant. It is shown that even Dr. Robotnik himself is afraid of her and is unable to oppose her. Momma Robotnik is also ruthless and uses all possible means to achieve her goal of world domination and the destruction of Sonic. Despite her usual abuse to her son and looking down on him, there are some rare times were she is kind and defends him.[6]
Powers and abilities[]
Momma Robotnik has proven to be a competent and dangerous enemy to Sonic, Tails and even her own son. Her physical strength is significant; she is able to break through her son's fortress with ease. Also, she once engaged Katella in direct combat and proved to be the only being aggressive enough to frighten her off the planet.[4]
Momma Robotnik has demonstrated significant cunning and manipulative skill. Despite Scratch and Grounder's programmed loyalty to Robotnik, Momma Robotnik was able to quickly turn them against her son with only seconds of emotional manipulation. She was also able to manipulate the Mobius local government's welfare department to grant her custody of Tails, allowing him to be used against Sonic.[2] During her birthday, she also prepared a trap that came extremely close to killing Sonic and which was only foiled due to sabotage by her son.[1]
Weapons[]
While Momma Robotnik does not use any weapons, she uses an umbrella, which she takes with her everywhere. She often uses it to scold her son.
Weaknesses[]
While Momma Robotnik possesses significant strength, she is unable to oppose the staff of the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers, running from them instead of fighting.[1]
Relationships[]
Dr. Robotnik[]
Dr. Robotnik is Momma Robotnik's son. While the doctor respects her when she is near him, she seems to disparage him, often sabotaging his own creations and using them for her own agendas.[3] During Robotnik's childhood, it is also said that she took all of his toys from him to turn him evil, indicating a level of a very low care and affection for her son, also her possibly constant abuse to him may have also been the reason for why he turned to villainy in the first place.[1] Also, during her son's campaign to become the president of Mobius, she would vote for Sonic because she believed that Robotnik could not do anything right.[5]
Although Robotnik somewhat rarely stands up to her, since the latter betrayed him for not having a chance to become the president of Mobius due to his incompetence, the former betrayed her back by letting the staff of the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers capture her.
Sonic the Hedgehog[]
Like her son, Momma Robotnik has shown a dislike of Sonic the Hedgehog. She constantly wants to destroy him after he stopped her plans during her birthday, and has often taken over her son's fortress in order to do this.[2] However, Momma Robotnik has also shown some faith in Sonic, as she believes that he can do things better than her son.[5]
Scratch and Grounder[]
Although the trio oftentimes showed fear of Momma Robotnik whenever she was around, Grounder did however once consider her "sweet" and wished for a mother like Robotnik did. After throwing her son out of his own fortress, Robotnik ordered the two to stop her, but once the two robots came up to her, it turned out that she sweetly adopted the two and treated them like her actual children compared to Robotnik, referring to them as "her boys", causing them to betray him. Although, she still got mad when they let Sonic destroy them.
After that moment where Robotnik got his fortress back and got back in charge of them, their relationship reverted back to neutral where they were always terrified of her, especially Momma Robotnik giving them orders when Robotnik wasn't around while being nursed by him.
Coconuts[]
When Coconuts was on patrol outside of Robotnik's fortress, once Momma Robotnik was about to visit her son in his fortress, she ignorantly stomped through the security check cabin Coconuts was in to break into her son's property.
Once Coconuts wanted to join Momma Robotnik's new family with Scratch and Grounder after throwing her son out of his own fortress, Momma Robotnik kindly offered Coconuts to join which Coconuts joyfully accepted to if she let him off sewer patrol. But once Coconuts asked what his order was, it turned out, it was even worse for him where Momma Robotnik visibly tricked him, violently threw him in the fortress and sadistically said his job was the same as usual, sewer patrol. This treatment towards him caused Coconuts to disdain her and secretely betray her once Robotnik showed up at night and kindly promised to put him in charge of Grounder and Scratch if he helped him get his fortress back. Once Momma Robotnik soon found out about this, the latter furiously shut him off when he called him "Momma" and encouraged the other two robots to destroy him alongside Robotnik and the others against her.

While Momma Robotnik herself did not make any appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, she became a recurring gag in the Off Panels of the series. - In some episodes, Momma Robotnik is seen with a moustache like her son's. However, in other episodes, she lacks one. In most of her appearances, she has lipstick, but in her debut, she doesn't.
- In the Hispanic American version of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Momma Robotnik is named "Mamá Mostachón" (Spanish for "Mama Big Moustache").
- It's unknown who her husband or spouse is (Robotnik's father) since he has never been seen or mentioned.
- When sobbing in "Momma Robotnik's Birthday", she has a slight upper-class British accent (a bit like her son's), but when speaking in a normal tone, she has an Minnesotan American accent.
- Despite physically lacking her mustache in "Sonic is Running", a still on live TV depicts her with her mustache hitting Robotnik with her handbag when Chollie Chang is reporting that Robotnik's popularity is plunging.
- Although she doesn't physically appear in "The Little Merhog", a picture of her is seen when Robotnik hits the frame with his golf ball while playing golf. Her moustache is also depicted as white instead of orange, oddly enough.
