The Mole Cannon (モールキャノン, Mōru Kyanon^?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, turret-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

The Mole Cannons mostly resemble pale yellow gun turrets that are built into the ground. They have flat conical frustum-shaped buff heads with oblique edges, along with two orange eyes, and a line of yellow lights resembling a mouth along the front edge. Below their heads, they have a conical frustum-shaped black "neck" with two yellow lights on the sides and is connected to a tan cylinder which goes into a hole. Inside the lower part of their neck, the Mole Cannons have a single-barreled buff gun that they can unfold into a horizontal position.

Overview

The Mole Cannons appear on both the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 and Wii/PlayStation 2 versions of Sonic Unleashed. In both versions, they can only be encountered in the daytime Action Stages/Stages.

In battle, when the Mole Cannons spot Sonic, they will pop out of the ground and shoot a few projectiles at him before retreating back underground. Additionally, when the player gets close, they will duck underground where they are virtually invulnerable until the player leaves. They are unable to move from their position, however.

In the Wii/PlayStation 2 version, the player can destroy the Mole Cannons using normal attacks, provided they are moving fast enough to hit them before they can retreat underground. In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version though, the Mole Cannons will always retreat underground before the player can reach them. The only way to destroy the Mole Cannons in this version is by either launching other enemies into them with a Homing Attack or using the Stomp on top of them.

Personality

The Mole Cannon units are noted to be very sneaky.

Power and abilities

The Mole Cannons possess a single-barreled retractable gun, allowing them to shoot highly powerful fireballs over a wide range. They are also able to retract themselves into their underground section to avoid attacks.
