Plot[]

The triplets are searching through a ruined forest searching for the fabled 'Mobodoon' an alternate dimension whose portal only opens once every four years during a full moon. It's the trio's birthday, and they're following a lead that the Queen is there. Sonia is openly objecting, grossed out by the dirt. However, one of the trees is Dingo in disguise, and grabs Sonia. The trio fight him off and end up finding the portal. However, they are unaware they were followed in by Sleet and Dingo. The villains, upon entering, run into a golden statue of Aleena.

Sonic, Sonia and Manic return to their birthplace, Mobodoon, a beautiful, festive town. The group walks through the square, admiring how beautiful it is. While searching for Aleena, Manic stops at stall and attempts to steal an apple. He is stopped however, and Sonia and Sonic become aware of his attempted theft, disappointed that he'd try to get them kicked out so quickly. However, the woman tells him the apple he chose wasn't ripe yet and hands him a better one. When he says he has no money to pay for it, she laughs- explaining how nobody in Mobodoon uses money, everyone is free to take what they like. Learning this, Sonia goes to treat herself at a nearby spa, and Sonic heads to a chili dog stand to chow down. The lady introduces herself as Mayor Whinnyham, and has Manic follow her, addressing him by his name. When he asks how she knows him, she tells him she will explain and leads him to one of the buildings.

Upon entering, Manic sees three cribs, decorated with images of him and his siblings. He realizes Mobodoon is their birthplace, and nearly cries seeing how much the people care for him and his siblings. He laments how Sonic had a stable home growing up, Sonia grew up posh, but he never had one place to call his home, growing up in the sewers and streets of Robotropolis.

As Sonic has his chili dogs, he's joined by Sonia, fresh from the spa. Dingo, disguised as a motorbike, rushes by and splashes mud all over her. Angered, she performs a 'Sonia Spin', causing him to go flying. Sonic waits impatiently as Sonia goes in for another spa treatment. The duo is joined by Manic, who excitedly has them follow him. He shows them the cribs, and the others realize they're in their birthplace. Manic then drops a bombshell, that he plans to stay for good. They learn from the Mayor that she knows their mother personally-as the two are best friends. Not only does the Queen come to visit whenever the portal opens, but she very well may be in the city now.

The town then throws a celebration upon the royal trio for their homecoming, and the group decides to perform a song for them all. The homecoming is interrupted when Sleet and Dingo arrive to collect back taxes by order of Dr. Robotnik. Because Mobodoon has no form of currency to pay this bogus debt, Sleet and Dingo decide to raid the village and steal its most precious monuments, including the powerstone, which is the center of Mobodoon's vitality. Mayor Whinnyham tells them the stone is the source of Mobodoon's power. WIthout it, their resoures will slowly die, and if gone for too long, Mobodoon will permanently lose it's power and will disappear from the other world forever. It is up to the Hedgehogs to get the powerstone back and restore their former home to its previous blissful state.

With the town restored, Manic plans to part ways with his brother and sister, feeling like he's finally found his home. The siblings have a sad parting, but they don't have long-as the portal home will close. Before they leave, Sonic asks about their mother. The mayor tells the siblings that while they were fighting Sleet and Dingo, the Queen showed up. She couldn't stay long, but wished the triplets a happy birthday.

Sonic and Sonia sadly return to Robotropolis without their brother, only for Manic to appear from the portal before it closes. He tells them how he's realized he may have not had a permanent home like they did growing up, but he's realized his home is with the people he cares about- his siblings. He also tells them Freedom FIghters must stick together, and they'd be lost without him as their drummer. The trio group hug as they happily reunite.

Sleet seems satisfied about Dingo being gone, believing he was stuck in Mobodoon as the portal closed. However, the trio show him Dingo is just fine (disguised as a ball) and hurl it at him.
