After witnessing Dr. Eggman's test fire of the Eclipse Cannon, Sonic, Tails, and Amy realize that he's been collecting the Chaos Emeralds to fuel the giant weapon. Tails remembers that the Chaos Emeralds attract each other, and decides to use the Emerald he received as a gift for saving Station Square in Sonic Adventure to find the others. The military find the trio at this point, and Sonic offers to keep them busy while Tails escapes to look for the other Emeralds.
Various sections of Mission Street are prone to earthquakes, which causes some sections of the bridges to collapse.
1st Mission: Elude enemy pursuit!
This section requires an expansion.
2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings!
The first method to successfully complete this mission is to take time. If the player is hit even once, it becomes almost impossible to collect 100 Rings in one pass. Additionally, before walking under the giant suspended Weight, the player should break the Wooden Container on the right and hit the Ball Switch to prevent the Weight from falling onto them. This stage has 104 Rings in Sonic Adventure 2 and 99 Rings in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, so the player must use the Back Ring located at the end of the stage to get the rest.
3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao!
As the player approaches the second Point Marker, they should turn back toward the screen and drop down. They must Hover to descend slowly, then maneuver to the ledge below with the Ancient Ruin. Playing the Mystic Melody atop this ruin causes a Warp Hole to appear and transport Tails to a row of floating elevators. The player must jump and hover between them to find the lost Chao.
4th Mission: Reach the goal within 3 minutes 0 seconds!
The key to this mission is to move constantly. If the player picked up the Laser BlasterLevel Up Item, they should use the Lock-On Missile as fast as possible throughout the stage to destroy any obstacles in their path.
Last Mission: Clear Hard mode!
There are few changes to this stage's hard mode than the player is accustomed to. Extra enemies have been added as usual, but there are few structural differences.
The falling cylinders may blow out the road ahead before there is a chance to cross them.
There is a new mechanism, the swinging iron balls.
After the bridge with the collapsing pillars, the player must cross a large bottomless pit, and they should be able to see Big on a support beam on the left side.
In Hard Mode, Big's location is moved to the furthest point of the stage. Before the Goal Ring, there is a collapsing highway above the arena. Once the player reaches it, a part of the highway will fall and reveal him.
In the level, it is possible to knock over the small, three-wheeled cars, reminiscent of parking attendants in real-life San Francisco. Sonic Team USA was occasionally ticketed by these cars and allowed them to be destroyed in the game as a form of revenge. The team has, however, acknowledged that the parking attendants were just doing their job.
Throughout the stage, the player can see electric billboards with Tails' head on them, offering a $1,000,000 reward for his capture. These billboards provide non-detailed descriptions of Tails. Apparently, G.U.N. has no records of Tails' date of birth, location of birth, or his nationality.
There is an actual street in San Francisco called Mission Street.
The setting and many objects featured in the level are similar to Radical Highway, save for the city street sections at both the beginning and end.
