Missions[1] are a gameplay feature in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed. It is a set of Acts mostly requested by the non-playable characters in the game, usually under special circumstances. All of these missions are entirely optional.

Overview

Missions in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed are tasks that Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic the Werehog may complete in order to gain a reward, progress with a storyline, or unlock content. They can include the player having to reach the Goal of a particular Act, defeat a specific or a certain number of enemies, complete an Act within a time limit, locate a particular object in an Act, talking to a specific group of people in the Town Stages, etc. These missions can be completed in any order once they become acquirable. While it is up to the player when and if they will assist, doing so will increase Sonic's Experience, thus allowing the player to level-up Sonic's parameters more quickly.[1]

Missions can be acquired in the Town Stages by interacting with the non-playable characters there. However, Missions become available under different circumstances. Some are unlocked as the player progresses to a certain point in the game, others only become available after the player exorcises a person, and then there are those which first become available after a previous Mission is cleared. Furthermore, some Missions are only available during a certain time of the day. Regardless, once a Mission is available, the player can interact with the non-playable character giving it out. These characters will then converse with the player about their Mission based on a request or a need for assistance from Sonic, before giving Sonic the option of whether he will help them or not. Accepting the request will automatically start the Mission. For Missions that take place in Action Stages in particular, the player will be taken directly there to complete their Mission once it is accepted; once the Mission is over, the player will be taken back to the Town Stage they were in.

Once a Mission is initiated, the player is given one try to compete it. Should the player lose that try, they can either restart the Mission or quit. Some Missions also give the player the option to quit midway through it. Some Missions have no try mechanic however, given that such Missions just involve talking with people around the Town Stages.

The rewards for completing these Missions are limited, but may include collectibles, such as Art Books. In addition, clearing different Missions will unlock different game achievements.

Don Fachio Missions

In each Town Stage, there is a Don Fachio stand that hands out Missions that revolve around testing the player on the basic gameplay in Sonic Unleashed. His mission sets are split up between Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Werehog's gameplay, which can be accessed during their respective time of day, and cost Rings to be played. The only exception to the day-night separation is the stand in Eggmanland, who only features Time Trials, as Eggmanland has no daytime/nighttime cycle.

If Sonic manages to clear one of these missions, the Hot Dog Vendor will award Sonic with a special chili dog.
