The Missile Launch is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description[]

The Missile Launch's icon takes the form of a yellow and brightly-glowing laser shots fired from E-102 Gamma's handgun. In gameplay, it becomes a projectile that is colored yellow.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Missile Launch can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Gamma. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Missile Launch if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Missile Launch by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user fires several laser shots in a row, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. Rival characters that make contact with the Missile Launch will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Missile Launch, the playable character has to either step out of its lane or jump over it. Furthermore, the Missile Launch has a time limit that determines how many shots it can produce. The duration of the Missile Launch is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Missile Launch is in effect. However, the Missile Launch will end prematurely if the playable character takes damage while using it.

The Missile Launch can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6, 12 and 18 respectively. For each upgrade, the Missile Launch will fire more shots during its duration.
