The Minion is an enemy that appears in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. They are a model of Destruction Troops created by Lyric the Last Ancient. Unlike the rest of their kind, the Minions are not built for battle and instead fill the role of Lyric's smaller workforces.
Appearance
The Minions are diminutive humanoid robots about Tails' height. They have a yellow-colored body with an almost oval body, three lights on the chest, and thin grey arms and legs with tiny feet and small four-fingered hands. Their heads are shaped like a flat cuboid, with two wide lenses for eyes with cyan-colored pupils and a small mouth. Sometimes, they carry a backpack.
Personality
The Minions are cowardly machines as they run away at the first sign of trouble.
Powers and abilities
The Minions are very weak and have no combat abilities. Instead, they are equipped for non-volatile work and have skills in working with computers. They also possess a jetpack for flight.
Overview
The Minions were created by Lyric the Last Ancient over 1,000 years ago where they worked behind the computers in Lyric's Weapon Facility for the snake's operations to destroy the earth. When Lyric got imprisoned before achieving his goal, the Minions were left to rust, though Lyric left some of them behind to be found so the finders would set him free to learn their secrets. Following Lyric's release in the present, he reactivated and/or reclaimed all his Minions.
The Minions are found in almost any of the regular levels in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, but the player does not meet them very frequently. They are first encountered in the Abandoned Research Facility. In gameplay, Minions are usually on their own in isolated places, though in Lyric's Weapon Facility, they can appear in pairs, group or even in a cluster in a secluded area.
The Minions have no form of attack, instead resorting to running around in panic when the player approaches them, and they can be taken out with just one attack, though they will eventually fly away from the area after some time if the player does not destroy them. Sometimes, there are Minions which carry backpacks with weapons inside; these kind of Minions are called "Treasure Minions" and are usually by themselves. When they are defeated, they drop the weapon they carry which the player can then pick up and use against other enemies. Additionally, destroying a Minion will make it release up to two Rings.
After Team Sonic defeated Lyric, all the Minions were subsequently scrapped.
Trivia
- The Minions' name were not directly revealed in the final version of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, though the ones of them carrying items were called "Treasure Minions". However, their name is listed in an unused biography for the game.[1]
- The Minions are the only model of Destruction Troops who have two eyes.
