The Mini Ptera Mecha is directly based on a pterosaur. These Badniks have a small orange and gray body, a triangular head with large eyes, and triangular gray and orange hinged wings.
Overview[]
In Sonic Superstars, the Mini Ptera Mechas appear as standard enemies in Frozen Base Zone Act Tails. In gameplay, the Mini Ptera Mechas fly back and forth until they spot the player. Once they spot the player, the Mini Ptera Mechas will accelerate into a dive towards the player's direction in an attempt to hit them. Despite this, the Mini Ptera Mechas can still be easily destroyed via any basic attacks. Like most Badniks in the game, the Mini Ptera Mecha will release their Animal and award the player 100 points upon destruction.
In addition to their appearance as standard enemies, the Mini Ptera Mechas also appear during the Ptera boss fight at the end of Frozen Base Zone Act 1. During the battle, one of the attacks the Ptera will do is summon several Mini Ptera Mechas to dive bomb into the player to make it more tricky to harm the boss itself. However, if the player does attack the Ptera at any point during the fight, any Mini Ptera Mechas onscreen will also subsequently be destroyed (though they do not release an Animal or award the player points unless the player destroys these Badniks directly).
Powers and abilities[]
The Mini Ptera Mechas can not only fly thanks to their wings, but they can also speed into a midair dive in the player's direction, traveling in a straight line at quick speeds.
Trivia[]
The Mini Ptera Mechas share a very similar name to another pterodactyl-based Badnik named Ptera, a Badnik that appears in Sonic Rush Adventure. Despite this, it is unknown if the Mini Ptera Mechas are meant to be variants of the Ptera (as Sonic Superstars takes place far before the events of Sonic Rush Adventure).
Additionally, the Frozen Base Zone Act 1 midboss is also named Ptera, suggesting that the boss itself is a larger variant of the Mini Ptera Mechas.
Interestingly enough, the Mini Ptera Mechas that are summoned by a the Ptera during its boss fight are referred to as EneBos010Minion in the files of Sonic Superstars (likely due to having different attack patterns during the boss fight).
