Mind Root

A Mind Root attached to Mighty's neck, from Sonic the Comic #138. Black and white art by Richard Elson, colour by Nigel Kitching.

Mind Root is a flora that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. They are tiny plant roots from the Mandrake Swamp of Planet Meridian in the Special Zone. When placed on a person's neck, the Mind Root links to that person's nervous system, removing their free will. Root used them to turn people into his slaves. Other than a willingness to obey Root, the Mind Roots appear to leave the person's core personality intact.[1] (Root himself had the ability to control Morton by affixing to Morton's neck, but seems to be much larger than the Mind Roots.[2])

History[]

Past[]

When Blockhead Bill and Society Max came to the Mandrake Swamp searching for Mandrake Roots, they were captured by Root and given Mind Roots so that they were forced to do his bidding.[1]

Roots[]

Later, when Sonic the Hedgehog and the Chaotix Crew came to the Mandrake Swamp in search of Blockhead Bill and Society Max, the heroes were captured.[3] Root subjected all four Chaotix members to the Mind Root, but Sonic managed to escape.[1] Sonic defeated Root's six brainwashed slaves, then crushed Root's body under a pillar. Root, reduced to a tiny root himself, lost control over the Mind Roots and they fell off their host bodies, restoring the heroes' free will.[2]
