Past[]
In the past, Tails was persecuted for his dissimilarity, namely due to his unique twin-tails, which he needed a lot of practice with to get a handle on. However, he managed to do so thanks to the support from his friends.[9] Tails has as well been best friends with Sonic the Hedgehog for some time, with whom he would travel the world with and battle the tyranny of Dr. Eggman.[10][1] According to Amy, Tails was practically raised by Sonic.[11]
In the past, Tails and Sonic would visit Angel Island. During their trip around the island, they became quite familiar with its various regions.[12]
Tails once went on his own adventure, to explore a remote island. There, Witchcart and her minions attacked the island and tried to conquer it. Tails overcame his fears and chased every minion and Witchcart off the island.[13][14]
Classic Era[]
Seasons of Chaos[]

One day shortly after the Phantom Ruby incidents[15][16][17], while Tails, Sonic and Amy roamed Spring Valley Zone, the trio found a Chaos Emerald, but it got snatched in front of them by Metal Sonic. Tails assisted Sonic's attempt to retrieve the Chaos Emerald, but it was for naught. Knuckles soon after showed up and revealed to Tails and the others that Metal Knuckles had one of the Chaos Emeralds too. Deducing that Dr. Eggman was seeking the Chaos Emeralds, Tails, Sonic and Knuckles headed out to secure the remaining gems. Along the way, however, Tails dropped his Emerald Radar. In Summer Falls Zone, Tails and his crew found another Chaos Emerald, only to come under attack by Fang, Bean and Bark, who had been hired by Eggman to find the Chaos Emeralds. During the fight, Tails followed Fang and sabotaged his Marvelous Queen when he went for the Chaos Emerald. Tails then almost managed to escape with the Chaos Emerald, but got hit by Fang's Popgun, thus causing him to drop the Emerald, which ultimately fell down a waterfall. With Tails unsure of how they were going to recover the lost Chaos Emerald, Tails' crew decided to let it be for now and follow Fang's gang to the next one.[2]
In Autumn Forest Zone, Tails began to wonder why Eggman had hired Fang's gang if he already had his Metals out hunting the Chaos Emeralds. Regardless, Tails would soon after help Sonic and Knuckles defeat Eggman in his Egg Mobile when they found him. As Fang's gang then arrived with Amy, Mighty and Ray, Eggman revealed to everyone that Heavy King had taken control of his forces and sent them out to collect Chaos Emeralds. Not wanting Heavy King to possess the Chaos Emeralds, Tails and the others joined forces and headed to Winter Caverns Zone, where Heavy King's base was located. There, while trying to get past Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles, Tails jumped into the Egg Mobile and began looking for a way to regain control of the Metals remotely. Fortunately, Tails Doll showed up, whom Eggman used to boost a jamming signal that freed the Metals from Heavy King's control. As the united front finally got inside the base, Tails and the others took part in a fight with Heavy King, who used the seven Chaos Emeralds' power against them. In the end though, Tails helped take the Chaos Emeralds away while Sonic distracted Heavy King. Fleeing the base afterward, Tails took the yellow Chaos Emerald for himself when the group decided to split up with the Chaos Emeralds to make it more difficult for Eggman to retrieve the gems. Amy also returned Tails' Emerald Radar to him. Tails then bid Sonic farewell when the latter headed out on his own.[2]
Dr. Eggman's Birthday[]
Tails and Sonic were later attacked by the Hard Boiled Heavies and their fellow Badniks. However, the robots would be called back to base by Dr. Eggman himself. Along the way, Tails also heard that it was Eggman's birthday.[18]
Amy's New Hobby[]
One time, Tails and Sonic were out looking for Dr. Eggman's newest base. As they waited for a group Badniks to appear in order to see where they went however, Sonic got stir crazy. As such, when some Badniks did show up, Sonic blasted out from their hiding place and Spin Dashed all of them.[19]
Later, Tails was invited over for lunch by Amy at her house. When Tails arrived, he sat down for a friendly chat with Amy. As he began telling Amy about Sonic's recent escapades however, Tails noticed that Amy was taking notes of something. After Tails had mischievously teased her by suggesting that she was collaborating with Eggman, Amy hesitantly showed him her newest hobby: self-made comic books about their adventures. Impressed by her work, Tails learned that Amy had not showed them to anyone else since she did not think they were good. In response, Tails went out and showed Amy's comics to Mighty and Ray, who thought they were good. Afterward, Tails would nudge Amy towards accepting the positive reception of her work. As Amy's comics attracted a huge gathering, including Sonic, Tails showed Amy's comics to Sonic, who admitted her drawings of him were awesome. Afterward, Tails stood by both Sonic and Amy as the former began telling Amy tales to use for her next comic.[19]
Flying Off the Rails[]
Sonic is standing on the top wing of the Tornado with Tails in the cockpit flying it. He points out to Tails that Flicky Island is straight ahead. Tails lands the plane on the coast of the island. Sonic says he is glad to be back to explore the island for their vacation. Sonic hops off the plane and Tails takes his pilot goggles off and flies out. They arrive at Green Grove, where there aren't any Flickies. Sonic looks disappointed that the species he saved isn't giving him a welcome. Tails speculates that something is wrong. Sonic tells him they will make it right and they should look for clues. Before Tails can lay out a plan, Sonic runs off in a puff of smoke. As Sonic runs around Green Grove, Tails investigates the unnatural crystal formations and the rails that have been laid down. Suddenly, he realizes what happened and calls out to Sonic. Sonic stops in front of him and Tails says the island has been attacked by Witchcart. Sonic looks concern and asks who that is.
As a flashback is shown, Tails explains when Sonic was on his own adventure, he went to explore a remote island. There, Witchcart and her minions attacked the island and tried to conquer it. He says he overcame his fears and chased every minion and Witchcart off the island. Tails points out the crystals and rail lines are the same things Witchcart used before. He concludes she is responsible for the Flickies' disappearance. Sonic understands there are bad guys that need stopping and runs off again before Tails can explain how to find them. While running near the rails, Sonic wonders if he could balance on them on day. Meanwhile, Bearanger, Carrottia, and Hocke-Wulf are gathering Flickies into a hollow crystal. Bearanger complains about Carrottia not helping, but she lazily says she is holding the hole to the crystal closed. As Hocke-Wulf shoves more Flickies in, Sonic attacks him as Carrottia looks on uninterested. Bearanger yells the others to attack Sonic and runs at the hedgehog. Sonic jumps into his chin and tells him he shouldn't have picked a fight with him. Suddenly, Sonic is then entrapped in a crystal.

It is revealed Witchcart used her wand to trap Sonic in a crystal. She gloats how Sonic was distracted. The Witchcarters welcome and thanks her for helping them, with Bearanger calling the other two Witchcarters worthless. Witchcart says her patience is wearing thin and demands them to get more Flickies. The Witchcarters rush to their vehicles and fly off as Witchcart attaches Sonic to her cart to take him to her lair. Sonic show his annoyance to her rhyming and he is dragged away. Tails looks on behind a bush, holding back his anger. He then sits with his head down and laments how Sonic didn't listen to him and now he has made a bad situation worse. He raises his head up to see some Flickies around him. Tails wipes away a tear and lets out a big sigh. He stands up and says he beat the Witchcarters before and he can do it again, he just has to be smart about it. Tails has a flashback to the last time they were on Flickies Island, with Sonic stopping Eggman from capturing the Flickies and Tails and Knuckles finding the Chaos Emeralds. In present time, Tails flies over and pulls the plug on the crystal that was holding a big flock of Flickes. He asks the Flickes to help him navigate the island so he can stop the bad guys and save their friends.
In Spring Stadium, Hocke-Wulf is chasing and capturing Flickies on his bike with a butterfly net. As he teases a Flicky he captured, Tails picks him up from behind while flying. Hocke-Wulf remembers Tails and tries to get under his skin. Tails tunes him out, but Hocke-Wulf whistles, causing his bike to fly over and ram Tails. Hocke-Wulf's bike catches him as he falls from Tail's grasp. He then pulls out a mine and flies to Tails with it. In a bit of a panic, Tails calls for the Flickies to start "plan B". Each one sings a different call, until a blue Flicky matches what Hocke-Wulf sang. This causes his bike to veer out of control with more Flickes iminating his call. Eventually, Hocke-Wulf is spun off his bike. Tails thanks the Flickies for their help, but an angered Hocke-Wulf runs at him with his arms flailing in the air. Tails steps aside, and Hocke-Wulf falls into a pit of springs where he bounces around. Tails tells the Flickies he needs something from Hocke-Wulf for his master plan. He takes out the bike's Repulsor and asks one Flicky to hold onto for him.
In Gene Gadget, Bearanger orders some Flickies to go into a giant bag. Tails then hits Bearanger on the head, but it hurts Tails more than Bearanger. Bearanger complains about Tails giving him fair fight and landing a cheap shot on him. He then gets into his bike with a look of rage in his eye. Tails tries to plead with him to calm down, but Bearanger flies directly at Tails and throws grenades at him. Tails falls and nearly hits some moving spikes, but he flies back up at the last moment. He calls for the Flickies to start "plan C", with Bearanger hot on his tails. The Flickies get out of the bag and start swarming Bearanger. He yells at them to get off of him and puts his bike into full power, leaving the Flickies in the dust. Tails thanks Bearanger for being so predictable as the Whitchcarter flies directly into some machine piping, landing him in a vat of orange liquid with his bike landing out another tube onto a pile of Badnick scrap parts. Bearanger yells out at Tails as he takes something out his bike, but the glass is soundproof. Tails gives two parts to the Flickies and looks happy about their progress.
In Rusty Ruins, Carrottia sings a song ordering the Flickies to get in cages. One blue Flicky tries to fly away, only for Carrottia to launch a missile from her bike and hit the bird. She warns the birds not to disobey her as Tails sneaks under the bike. He opens one of the missile launchers from the bike and takes out a component. Tails gives it to a Flicky to regroup with the others, who struggles to carry it. Just as the Flicky flies away, Carrottia turns the bike over sees Tails, to the fear of the fox. Carrottia says she will not go easy on Tails this time and launches a horde of missiles at him. Tails spins away and disappears in the fog. Carrottia begrudgingly switches to manual aim, but she is out of ammo. Annoyed, she searches the area for Tails; a difficult task with shadows of Flickies and the thick fog. She asks Tails to make this easy and come out, but Tails sneaks behind Carrottia and pulls some wires on her bike. The bike clangs on the ground, right on the edge of a pit. Carrottia keeps her normal expression as she and her bike falls into the pit. She yawns and says she is defeated as Tails looks down.
Tails regroups with the Flickies and makes use of the parts he has gathered. He attaches the Repulsor to his left hand, makes a claw device with the claw and attaches a thruster to it, and puts the missile launcher on his back. Tails confidently says he is ready to save the rest of their friends. In Panic Puppet Fortress, Witchcart is teasing Sonic and overlooking her captured Flickies. She says once she discovers the Flickies' secrets, nothing will be able to stop her. On cue, Tails reveals himself by calling out Witchcart's terrible rhyming. She shoots her wand at Tails and says all her rhymes are art. Tails uses the claw device to ride the rails and says her art is as bad as her aim. Witchcart pursues Tails and demands him to get off her rails as she shoots at him. Tails keeps riding and uses the Repulsor to reflect Witchcart's spells. After some fighting, Tails launches the rockets at Witchcart, which she ducks under from. She taunts Tails for missing her, but Tails smugly says he wasn't aiming for her. The missiles then hit the crystal entrapping Sonic, breaking it and setting him free. Sonic groans about his arm falling asleep and says this is starting to look like a working vacation. Witchcart shoots more spells at Sonic, but he dodges them and says he is ready for her this time. Witchcart then makes a retreat.
Tails makes sure Sonic is OK and says they need to get Witchcart before she gets away. Sonic tells him "'we' don't need to do anything. The hero has already arrived." Tails looks at Sonic, then lets out a big smile realizing what he was saying. He hooks back onto the rails and asks him to back him up. Sonic gives him a thumbs up and says he's got this. Tails catches up to Witchcart and she tells him to give up. Her plan is already foiled and her minions are defeated, and she pleads Tails to let her retreat as she shoots at him. Tails tells her she has to finish what she started and it's game over for her. Tails then reflects one of her spells with the Repulsor and it reflects directly back to Witchcart. Tails then returns to Sonic with the now crystal-trapped Witchcart. Sonic says he freed the rest of the Flickies while Tails was fighting Witchcart, figuring he had it handled. Tails takes off his equipment and thanks Sonic for saving the day. Sonic gives Tails a noogie and says Tails was the one who beat up the baddies and got him out of the crystal, and this adventure was all his. Sonic runs off with Tails and the Flickies and remembers that they came here for a vacation, and they should party.
Sonic and Tails visited Flicky Island, only to find that its native Flickies had been captured by Witchcart and her minions. After Witchcart imprisoned Sonic in crystal, Tails teamed up with a group of Flickies to defeat the villains and rescue their friends.[14]
Amy's 30th Anniversary Special[]
Tails would be captured by Metal Sonic and would be one of the many people imprisoned in Capsules. He would be freed and would join Amy and friends in a picnic to celebrate their victory.[20]
Fang the Hunter miniseries[]
Tails was on South Island at Marble zone till he saw a disappearing ship that vanished after it's attack, he ran over to West Side Island in Emerald Hill to tell sonic about it in which the duo gets the tornado and tries to find it. Later that night on the Tornado with sonic they spot the ship but before they could attack it vanished leaving Sonic frustrated that there was no action, they head back to Tails lab to install a tracker. Shortly after they installed it they spot the ship and Tails overloads the react leaving the ship to sink into the ocean.[21][22][23][24]
Modern Era[]
Some time ago, Tails participated in a situation involving the Space Colony ARK, in which Eggman used its Eclipse Cannon to blow up a part of the moon in order to show the world the power that he wielded. These events let to Tails teaming up with Sonic, Knuckles, Rouge, Shadow, and even Dr. Eggman himself to stop a treat to the world.[25][26][27]
Later, Tails, Sonic and Knuckles formed a team. Soon after, a battle happened between Team Heroes and Neo Metal Sonic - the powered up form of Metal Sonic - who was impersonating Eggman. This time, the fake Eggman was piloting the Egg Emperor mech, but Tails and his friends defeated the mech.[1][28] After learning that Neo Metal Sonic had taken over the Eggman Empire however, Tails and his team defeated the robot and made him revert back to normal.[29][28] Tails would also be involved in a few incidents involving the Babylon Rogues.[30]
At a later point in time, Tails reprogrammed Gemerl, thereby turning the robot from Eggman's lackey into a reformed robot who came to live with Cream's family.[31][32] Tails would later on have a adventure in White Park.[33]
The Eggman War[]
During one of Tails' more recent adventures, Sonic got caught-off guard and captured by Dr. Eggman, who soon after conquered most of the world. Believing Sonic had been killed, Tails was emotionally traumatized.[1] Before going "solo" in the aftermath however, Tails gave a ragtag resistance group the ciphers they needed to communicate with the Wisps, thus allowing the group to recruit the Wisps for their cause.[34] Later on, Tails was reunited with Sonic, and together with him and the Resistance, Tails was able to put an end to Eggman's reign and break the Eggman Empire's control over the world.[35]
Fallout![]

Sometime later, Tails arrived at a local town called Vista View which was under attack from a Badnik force. He found Sonic already on the scene and helped him take care of some Egg Hammers who were able to put pressure on the hedgehog. After the duo handled the rest of the Badniks, Tails confided in Sonic that the Badniks had been undergoing much more coordinated attacks following Eggman's absence. As Tails suggested that there could be something controlling them, Sonic thought it might be Eggman, but Tails did not believe so, as Eggman was known for making sure they knew he had returned before attacking. Regardless, Sonic remained determined to take care of the rest of the Badniks like he always had. This made Tails express his worry over the thought of Sonic losing again, but his mind was put at ease after Sonic promised to be careful. Sonic then offered Tails to come along with him on his quest. While eager to accept the offer, Tails decided it was more important to help the town that they had just saved rebuild and recover, a decision which Sonic commended before taking off.[1]
The Fate of Dr. Eggman[]
Eventually, Tails joined up with Sonic again, whom he began raiding bases with in search of clues to whom was commandeering the Badniks. While flying through the sky in the Tornado however, the duo encountered an Egg Fleet battlecrusier. Seeing this as a chance to get a noteworthy clue, Tails had Sonic board the battlecruiser with his Miles Electric so that he could download any information he could from the first computer he saw aboard the battleship. Tails later ended up saving Sonic when he jumped off the battlecruiser in order to escape Neo Metal Sonic and landed on the Tornado. The duo subsequently traveled to Resistance HQ, where Tails, Knuckles and Amy learned from Sonic that Neo Metal Sonic was the ringleader behind the Badnik attacks. Apparently, he had taken over the Eggman Empire in Eggman's absence in an attempt to continue Eggman's rule for him and give him back command after finding him. In an effort to undermine Neo Metal Sonic's scheme, Tails and co. decided to search for any old plans that could tell them what Neo Metal Sonic was up to.[28]
Battle For Angel Island[]
Eventually, Tails was called to Resistance HQ. There, he and the Resistance's other allies were informed that the Resistance needed their help to liberate Angel Island, which had been conquered by Neo Metal Sonic and turned into a flying fortress. To make matters worse, Neo had also secured the Master Emerald for himself on the island. While they made plans on how to liberate Angel Island, Tails discouraged Blaze from going after Neo as Burning Blaze, believing that Neo could just copy Blaze's powers and become an even greater threat during their confrontation. Eventually, Tails was assigned to help two of the assembled group's factions with breaking the Egg Fleet's control over Angel Island while Sonic and Knuckles confronted Neo.[36]

While taking the group towards Angel Island in one of the Resistance's battleships, Tails got a visit from Sonic. As the two friends were having a moment however, the Egg Fleet began bombarding the ship. Fortunately, Tails managed to steer the doomed ship towards Angel Island. Before the ship crashed on the island however, Tails and the ship's passengers managed to evacuate. Arriving then on Angel Island, Tails had Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf assigned to him as protection "while he [did] something smart". Soon after, Tails was busy fighting the island's horde of Egg Pawns.[36] However, while he fought by Amy's side, Tails noticed that they were not making much progress. Seeking a smarter approach, Tails got an idea. With Silver's aid, Tails managed to take control of an Egg Fleet battleship, which he used to destroy the last of the wing units attached to Angel Island's shoreline. Afterward, most of Tails' allies regrouped on the battleship.[11]
When Neo Metal Sonic―in his new Master Emerald-induced transformation, Master Overlord―approached the battleship, Tails took the battleship straight towards the robot, refusing to leave Sonic, who was in the grasp of Master Overlord, and Angel Island, which was currently in freefall, at Master Overlord's mercy. The crew was soon after instructed by Knuckles to force Master Overlord towards Angel Island while he focused on retrieving the Master Emerald from him. While the others attacked Master Overlord, Tails remained behind on the battleship. However, when his friends were about to get attacked by Master Overlord, Tails would ram the battleship into Master Overlord. This distracted the robot long enough for Knuckles to get the Master Emerald away from Master Overlord and bring it back to Angel Island, returning the island to the sky while Master Overlord powered down to normal. Tails then reunited with Sonic on Angel Island. With Angel Island now back to normal and Metal Sonic offline, Tails and Sonic celebrated their victory.[37]
In the aftermath, Tails made a few repairs on Metal Sonic without bringing him back to full strength. Then, upon Sonic's request, Tails reactivated Metal Sonic, and Sonic offered the weakened robot to make a truce with them and start a new life. Metal Sonic refused, however, and ran off. Tails wondered if they should go after Metal Sonic, but Sonic noted that they should respect the robot's choice. Remembering that Eggman could no longer repair Metal Sonic or weaponize him either, Tails went to work repairing the Egg Fleet battleship they had used earlier so they could get everyone on Angel Island back home. Although uncertain that he had repaired the "notoriously weird" Eggman tech onboard the battleship, Tails managed to get it flying by the time Sonic went to check on him. As they took off, Tails and Sonic congratulated each other on another adventure done in style.[38]
Jet Set Tornado[]

Tails later installed a new jet booster on the Tornado that was supposed to allow the biplane to reach even greater speeds. Tails, however, gave Sonic the privilege of flying the Tornado for this test because he thought he would be perfect to try out this speed. During the flight, however, the heroes stumbled upon a Stealth Balkiry who had stolen supplies from a Resistance warehouse. Sonic and Tails subsequently chased the Badnik to a volcanic island. There, they directed the robot so that it was hit by lava fired from a geyser. After Sonic then destroyed the Stealth Balkiry, Tails took over the Tornado's controls and grabbed his friend in midair. He then decided to fly until the fuel ran out, as the new jet booster's off button was broken, and decided to notify the Resistance so that they could collect the stolen supplies. He also offered Sonic to sit at the controls again, but Sonic declined.[39]
Infection[]

While working in his workshop, Tails got a letter out of nowhere that foreshadowed Eggman's return to his evil ways in Windmill Village. Bringing the letter to Sonic, the two decided to investigate the matter by heading to Windmill Village. There, they found no one, except for Elder Scruffy, who had been beaten up and hung up in a tree. While helping him, Elder Scruffy revealed that Eggman had been kidnapped a week ago by two thugs, who had since returned and locked up the villagers in the community center. Immediately after, the thugs appeared, who turned out to be Rough the Skunk and Tumble the Skunk, now wielding weapons. While Sonic distracted them, Tails helped Elder Scruffy free the villagers. However, Tails had Elder Scruffy and the villagers stay hidden while he went to help Sonic. After the two heroes split Rough and Tumble up, Tails took on Rough, whom he defeated by using his Vapor Condenser against him. Destroying the Vapor Condenser afterward, Tails met up with Sonic after he beat Tumble, but before they could get Rough to tell them where Eggman was, the skunks vanished through a portal. Seeing that Rough and Tumble could not have acquired weapons like that on their own, Tails deduced that Eggman was back and helping the skunks, something which Sonic, who suspected that another one must have broken Rough and Tumble out of prison and told them where to find Eggman, hoped was not true. As Sonic prepared to set out to find clues, Tails opted to remain in Windmill Village and help clean up before joining up with Sonic.[40]
Tails later met up with Sonic, who needed his help dealing with an Eggman-created virus that was slowly turning him into a Zombot. While running some tests on Sonic in his workshop, Tails received a visit from Tangle. After discovering the extend of how contagious Sonic was, Tails concluded that Sonic had forced the virus into remission with his speed. Once Sonic had brought Tangle up to speed, Tails realized they had to start warning people about the Zombots. After then hearing about what Tangle had been up to, Tails said he was not sure of what they should do next. Since Amy had discovered plans for a battleship that Eggman was planning to spread his virus with, they should find it. After Sonic deliberately avoided a high-five with Tangle however, Tails saw that Sonic's infection had returned, which made him realize that Sonic's speed could only burn off the virus and keep it in check. Although Tails wanted to run some more tests on Sonic, Sonic took off to find Eggman's battleship. Tangle, however, assured Tails that he would find a cure for the virus.[41]
Tangle & Whisper[]
Tangle later came by Tails' workshop with Whisper the Wolf and the captive Mimic; they wished for Tails to create a device that would act as a cell for him. Tails built the Test Chamber, a contraption could run models through all sorts of artificial climate and atmospheric conditions, rendering Mimic's escape impossible. Mimic still claimed that he would escape but Tangle and Whisper warned him against doing so. Tails promised the girls that he would have the cell transported to the nearest jail as soon as he could. Following this, Tails said his goodbyes to the girls as they left his workshop.[42]
Crisis City[]

Soon after, Tails called Vector and informed him about recent events, including the return of Dr. Eggman, the Zombots, and Sonic's Metal Virus infection.[43] Despite his efforts, Tails was not able to find a cure for the Metal Virus from the data he got from Sonic due to it being too robust. At some point, after Cream, Vanilla and Gemerl arrived at Restoration HQ, Tails helped to repair the latter. Later, Tails was called to action after he had gotten word about the Zombot outbreak in Sunset City. He took the Tornado there and was accompanied by Silver following the latter's injuries. As soon as the duo arrived on the scene, Silver used his psychokinesis on the many Zombots who were surrounding Sonic and Omega. After clearing a path for Sonic to retreat, Silver allowed Tails to grab Omega's head from his damaged body and released the Zombots. As soon as this happened, Shadow, who had fully become a Zombot, lunged at Silver but the latter narrowly dodged his attack. He then retreated with Tails.
Back at Restoration HQ, Tails asked to see Sonic. When the hedgehog came by, Tails explained that he will soon find a substitute body for Omega when he had the time. Tails then told the two that he created a device to read Sonic's biometrics as he ran to give more insight as to how his speed combated the Metal Virus. However, he also stated that the computers in the HQ would not be able to read that kind of data and planned to go to his lab in Cental City instead but was wary that he may get attacked by Zombots. Silver proposed to cover him, despite the risk that he may be called elsewhere.[44]
The Last Minute[]
Tails arrived to his lab in Central City along with Tangle and Whisper. He soon watched in shock as Dr. Eggman used the Faceship to dump a large batch of the Metal Virus into the city. Tails tried to change plans but was told by Whisper and Tangle to stay at his lab. One hour later, Tails was researching for a cure while hiding from the Zombots outside his lab. He soon got a contact from Sonic, who told him he was at the outskirts of Barricade Town. After explaining how well he got the data from his bio-scanner and the situation at Central City, Tails suggested that Sonic kept running so he can find a cure for the virus. The fox cub called next Amy at Restoration HQ about his progress in his lab. He then told her that he will call for updates from Tangle and Whisper after she asked about sending Rescue Shuttles. Tails then contacted Tangle, who told him that she and Whisper managed to save a few civilians and guided them to the docks.[45]

Afterwards, the fox cub focused to research on the Metal Virus. After learning about the structure of the virus, he wondered how Sonic's speed could burn it down and how to apply this to others, not wanting to risk anything with the cure's possible ineffectiveness. Tails got the idea to go outside of his lab to retrieve a sample of the Metal Virus on the road and returned to his lab with glee. Soon after, Tails received a call from Tangle, who asked the fox cub about the cure. He confirmed to her that he had almost completed research on it and would begin helping the girls out soon. Tails then began to upload the data to Restoration HQ's server, only for his computer to suddenly shut down. Unbeknownst to him, a Zombot Cheese and Chocola were busy destroying the lab's main power supply outside. Tails tried not to panic and removed the server blades to use them at the HQ instead. The fox cub was interrupted by a Zombot who ripped into the entrance of the lab and knocked the server blades to the ground, destroying them. Tails was then forced to run to his garage with Zombots in pursuit. He used his Cyclone to emerge from the lab, ramming into several Zombots. Tails was then chased by Cheese and Chocola; he performed enough evasive maneuvers to dodge the Chao brothers and left them in the dust. Tails received a call for an update from Tangle. The fox cub cleared a path for the duo and told them to protect the survivors. At the dock, a Rescue Shuttle came to land. Tails continued to fend off Zombots until everyone was boarded and Tangle told him to come along. As his Cyclone was being ripped apart by Zombots, he abandoned his mech before it exploded and flew to the shuttle. Once he arrived, he received bad news from Amy that Restoration HQ had fallen. Tails panicked over this as he believed he would have been able to do something with the incomplete upload in his lab at the HQ. With this, Tails and Amy realized that their only hope now was Sonic.[45][46]
After the Restoration had gotten word that Spiral Hill Village had been attacked with the Metal Virus, they flew there with the Rescue Shuttle to help begin evacuation. While Espio, Tangle and Whisper helped to distract the Zombots in town, Tails and Cream helped fly uninfected villagers to the Rescue Shuttle. Soon, the two of them did not manage to find any more refugees in town, prompting them to fly back to the shuttle to inform Amy of the news. When they arrived, Sonic was also present and prepared to help. The young fox cub asked if he still had the bio-scanner with him only for Sonic to reveal that he lost the device after a fight with Dr. Eggman. After Tails shed some tears, he told Amy that he and Cream could not find any more uninfected villagers; with this, Amy called for a retreat. While Sonic went to find Tangle, Tails flew off to find Espio and Whisper. He soon returned with both of them and were prepared to retreat. When Sonic came back to the ship, he told the team that Tangle had actually gotten infected and chose to stay behind to prevent Zombots from following the Restoration. Tails was quite upset to hear this news and witnessed a hysteric Whisper attempt to run back into the village to try and rescue Tangle. After Whisper was pulled back into the ship by her Wisps, Amy gave the order for the shuttle to take-off and leave the village.[47]
All or Nothing[]

The Rescue Shuttle arrived at Angel Island, a last resort for a safe haven. Tails and Amy went down to brief Knuckles on the current Metal Virus situation. After his run, Sonic returned to find Knuckles confirming that he was now fully up to speed on the situation and expressed annoyance over trouble being brought to his island again. Suddenly, a portal opened of which Eggman, Starline and Metal Sonic dropped out of. As Amy prepared to attack them for everything that they have done, Sonic prevented her act and questioned why Eggman appeared out of nowhere all of a sudden unarmed since he had the advantage. Eggman responded to this by saying Starline brought the Deadly Six onboard the Faceship, which they swiftly took control over. Espio then appeared to inform everyone that they had just gotten word from Rouge. On the shuttle, Rouge reported that Eggman had been powering the Faceship with the Chaos Emeralds, which Zavok had now distributed to the rest of his team and then sent them out into the world; she went on to say that she was coordinating with Orbot to spy on their deployments and coordinate their counterattack. An argument soon arose between Tails and Eggman about a cure for the Metal Virus, with the fox noting that he was close to making a cure before it was lost to Zombots. Eggman clarified that he did not need to have one as his research found that as the Metal Virus mutated, it became unsustainable. Tails helped Knuckles and the others understand that soon, every Zombot would disintegrate. Eggman theorized that this would occur approximately two hundred years into the future. An injured Silver came onboard and confirmed this claim as it described his current future well.[48]
Later outside, Tails and the others tried to come up with ideas on how to counteract the virus. Starline suggested using the Master Emerald to neutralize the Deadly Six but Tails told him that they could not move it risking the whole island and luring the Zeti to them as it would be too much of a gamble; Knuckles also added that Starline would not be allowed to touch the Emerald. Eggman instead came up with the idea to use the Warp Topaz, as if they had Super Sonic charge it with his power, they would be able to warp the virus away with one swoop. Starline protested against it due to its instability and decided to leave and create a solution on his own; instead, Eggman, with Metal Sonic's help, removed Starline's glove that had the Warp Topaz attached to it, fired him and had him thrown out via a Warp Portal. When Tails asked Sonic if they were okay with this, the hedgehog recalled how Starline was the one to bring back Eggman and try to blow him and Silver up, so he was okay with it. Following this, Eggman surmised that Rouge would be able to steal the two Emeralds that were on the Faceship from Zavok; Espio noted that it left five Zeti left to deal with but Silver felt confident that they would be able to overwhelm them so long as they had each other. The group realized that they would have to split up and ambush the Deadly Six all at once since there was a risk that one could contact the others should they get a sense of their plan. While Eggman thought to work on a "Multi-Portal Generator" to help the others reach their destinations, Tails thought it would be better if each person had backup in case someone turned into a Zombot; this prompted Amy to call in the Babylon Rogues to increase their numbers. Sonic managed to convince Jet to help, even though the hawk wished to get a reward out of it.[48]

A while later, Tails and Eggman worked together to build the Multi-Portal Generator using the Warp Topaz so that it would send everyone where they needed to go all at once. When Eggman stated that the machine was not up to his regular standards, Tails took a light jab at him saying that they should focus on building something that would not cause the island to implode. Sonic returned from his run and had come up with a plan for who should be assigned with who and what Zeti they should go after; Tails used his Miles Electric to showcase what the Deadly Six looked like. He explained to Tails and Amy that they were tasked with taking on Zomom as they would easily be able to outsmart him and get his Chaos Emerald. Shortly afterwards, Tails joined Eggman in building a treadmill for Sonic as his speed was no longer countering the Metal Virus as well as it used to. Once Eggman adjusted the Warp Portal apertures and Tails got the coordinates set in, the latter set off to Vista View with Amy. Upon arriving at a restaurant where Zomom was wolfing down all food in sight, Amy and Tails revealed themselves to him. Zomom recalled Tails being one of Sonic's friends, unnerving them both. Tails, along with Amy, tried tricking the obese Zeti into giving them the Emerald by claiming that Zavok needed it and that they were here to escort it to him; however, Zomom refused as he wanted the Zombots to keep bringing him food. Angry that the pair interrupted the one of his many meals, Zomom claimed he was going to have to squash them, forcing Tails and Amy into combat with him.[49]
Zomom chased Tails and Amy while trying to attack them, though he was temporarily stopped after he was hit in the face by Amy's hammer; the Zeti was then trying to eat Amy's hammer. While the owner tried to pull it out of his mouth, Tails attacked him as well, forcing him to spit it out. Enraged, Zomom declared that "he was gonna chew them real hard now before swallowing", but when Tails mentioned something about dropping his lunch box while he was chasing them, the Zeti turned back to go find it. Tails and Amy then discussed what they were going to do as Zomom was a tough opponent to beat. After tearing through a couple of buildings, Zomom realized that he had been tricked and returned while now feeling "hangry". He raised his hands and commanded the Vista View Zombots to attack Tails and Amy, forcing them to escape to higher grounds. As the two continued to evade the Zombots from above, Zomom called them annoying. He then burrowed under the ground, causing a mini earthquake to collapse the building Tails and Amy were on. Zomom followed them while burrowing underground towards the town gate. Tails just managed to fly Amy up to the gate and soon developed a plan. Just as Zomom was underneath the gate, he popped out. This was revealed to be a trick; using the gate's cogs, Tails and Amy slammed the gate shut onto Zomom's stomach, trapping him. As the duo expressed their victory to him, they took his Chaos Emerald and left.[50]

When Tails and Amy arrived back on Angel Island, along with most of the other survivors, they found that Zavok had found their location, drawing nearer to the island in the Faceship. He had led a large horde of Zombots to the location as well. However, thanks to the efforts of Rouge, the Faceship was brought down and fell into the ocean, crashing down onto the horde of Zombots. This did not stop Zavok as he simply emerged from the rubble and transformed into Giant Zavok with his Chaos Emerald. As retaliation, he shot a fireball at the island with his mouth. He then grabbed a large handful of Zombots and threw them onto the surface to deal with the survivors, which included a number of familiar faces to Tails. While Sonic, Silver and Metal Sonic went off to retrieve the final Chaos Emerald from Zavok, Tails was forced to fly away from a Zombot Cheese and Chocola. The Chao managed to catch onto his tails, forcing the fox to back down as he could do nothing to fight the infection but plead for Sonic to help. Eventually, with the combined efforts of Super Sonic and Super Silver, they were able to warp the entirety of the Metal Virus away from the world and to the sun. This act turned Cheese and Chocola back to normal, prompting Tails to celebrate with them. A large explosion soon erupted between the Warp Topaz, Sonic and Silver, which threw the latter back on the island. Tails and Knuckles helped Silver up with Amy present; the hedgehog stated that the Metal Virus was destroyed but Starline was right about the Warp Topaz not being able to take so much power. Silver continued, saying that Sonic tried to ditch the Topaz in the Super Warp Portal but this only resulted in a green gate of energy appearing in the sky, with Sonic nowhere to be found.[51][52]
Out of the Blue[]
Knuckles believed that Sonic was simply being dramatic and would fly back down any minute now. Amy turned to Tails and asked if there was any way to search for him, only for Tails to imply that he would not know where to begin. A while after Zavok was restrained, Amy fell onto her knees in relief that the crisis was averted. However, Tails turned her attention to the fact that five Zeti were still on the loose in the world. The weary Amy realized that once she got back to Restoration HQ, she would have to worry about them as well. Tails suggested that Amy took a break and asked why she even took the job in the first place. She explained that she only did it because Knuckles disbanded the Resistance on whim. Knuckles argued that his place was on the island and the war was over anyway. Amy countered this by saying that the people down below still needed help. Knuckles disagreed with Amy's want to spread herself thin to help everyone everywhere and asked when the refugees would be leaving. Tails said that this would be after he repaired the Rescue Shuttle but after looking around, he could not find it. Eggman was nowhere to be found either until Big pointed out that he was escaping via the final Rescue Shuttle, much to Tails' concern.[53]

Sometime later, Tails and Tangle went to rescue Rough and Tumble from a refuse pit that they were trapped in by Sonic back when they were still Zombots. They told the skunks that they were given another chance at life after Sonic had cured the world of the Metal Virus. Rough and Tumble simply laughed at this and ran off to cause more mayhem. When Tangle asked if this meant they would go right back to jail by the end of the day, Tails joked that this could happen if they found their way out of the mines first. Following this, when Tangle asked Tails if he was fine after Sonic's disappearance, he replied that he was fine; he was confident that they would see Sonic again as he has beaten the odds before and since he had never let him down before, he believed in him. Additionally, he believed that Sonic would be counting on them to keep the peace. Tangle complimented Tails' determination and invited Tails to a party that she was going to host in Spiral Hill Village. Later at the party, Tails celebrated with his friends using party poppers. Though he enjoyed his time for a while, the party was soon crashed by Eggman arriving in a large mecha with the intent of destroying everyone.[54] Taking charge, Vector asked Tails to use Miles Electric to mess up Eggman's mecha. Though Tails managed to write a program that would release Gemerl, who had been integrated into the mecha, he had to connect directly to Eggman's mecha. With the help of Rouge though, he managed to get to the mecha's tailgate and hook up there, and reject Gemerl. Tails also planned to release the Omega, who served as the mecha's core, but the robot was unfortunately directly connected to it. Tails was then saved by Rouge when Eggman tried to shoot him with a laser pistol. Tails continued to fight the mecha from there until Sonic arrived and released Omega upon Tails' instruction. After Eggman's mecha was destroyed and Eggman himself fled, Tails welcomed Sonic back and participated in a group hug. He then helped put out the fires in Spiral Hill Village, caused by Eggman's attack.[55]
Chao Races and Badnik Bases[]
Later in his workshop, Tails met Amy and Rouge, who delivered him Omega's parts so Tails could repair him. Rouge also provided Tails with blueprint codes straight from Dr. Eggman's personal files that were on the Faceship to aid with the repairs. However, Tails could not decode the codes and he expected that Omega needed a full rebuild. Tails then began to wonder where they could find an abandoned Eggman base that would allow him to hack into the Eggnet and retrieve the cipher for the blueprints. Sonic then appeared and informed him of an abandoned base near Windmill Village. When Tails noted that they still needed E-100 Series spare parts, which were rare, Rouge announced that she could get them from Clutch in White Park Zone. Tails and Sonic subsequently flew to the abandoned base in the Tornado, where Tails found a computer terminal and began working on restoring power.[7] Tails later tried to break through the Eggnet's firewall when Sonic suddenly discovered a mysterious robot that he tried to attack. Tails, however, stopped him, seeing that the stranger was not the typical Badnik. The robot introduced herself as Belle and announced that she was not the work of Eggman, but a creator who she was looking for and whose name she did not want to reveal. Tails also noticed that she was made of wood, which impressed him. When an alarm went off in the base however, Tails remembered that he had forgotten to turn off the firewall. Tails thus tried to regain control of the situation via the computer, but to no avail. The heroes were soon after surrounded by Beats and Tails started arguing with Sonic on how they should defeat them. After a while though, Belle pushed Tails away and saved him from an Egg Keeper's tractor beam field. Fortunately, Tails destroyed the robot and saved Belle, although they still had other issues the face.[56]

Tails soon after lured a Beat into blowing up their room's exit door. During their escape however, Tails was caught by an Egg Keeper. Fortunately, he was saved by Belle, and Sonic took them outside the base. There, Tails received a message from Rouge, who asked them to come to White Park Zone. Before leaving though, Tails persuaded Sonic to take Belle with them when she asked for a ride. After flying to White Park Zone in the Tornado, Sonic and Belle went to the White Park Grand Chateau, while Tails landed the Tornado where Rouge had specified. There, Rouge attacked him. Tails was subsequently tied up and seated next to Rouge in a roller coaster. When Tails came to, Rouge revealed to him that she had been hypnotized into carrying out the orders of the hooded figure in front of them. Tails, however, recognized the figure as Dr. Starline. Tails later tried to warn Sonic about Starline when he came to their aid with Shadow. Starline, however, beat him to it before detonating explosives on a nearby mountain and setting off an avalanche. He then gave Sonic a choice: save Tails and Rouge, or the hotel guests at the White Park Grand Chateau who were in the way of the avalanche.[57]
Tails quickly told Sonic to go save the guests at the hotel. Despite Tails' insistence however, Shadow went to fight Starline. Meanwhile, Rouge freed himself and instructed Tails to start loosening his ropes as well. When Starline was thrown off the roller coaster by Omega, Tails managed to freed himself and began flying towards the White Park Grand Chateau with Rouge. Upon their arrival, Tails informed Amy to help them evacuate the civilians in the hotel and take the parts they needed for Omega. During the evacuation however, Starline returned with the intention of kidnapping Tails. While Amy and Rouge kept him at bay, Tails explained to Belle who Starline was. Suddenly though, Starline broke free thanks to his Tricore and grabbed Tails by his tail. Tails, however, quickly pulled Belle's tail, thus forcing her to kick Starline in the beak. Tails and his friends then evacuated to a safe spot as the avalanche hit the chateau and buried Starline. In the aftermath, Tails told Sonic about how Belle helped them. Tails then suggested to Belle that she could help him in his workshop, which Belle accepted. Upon Tails' return to his workshop, he rebuilt Omega with Belle's help and offered the former to try his now body by sparring with Gemerl, whom Tails had also repaired. Shortly thereafter, Tails realized that Belle had not been completely honest with him about her creator: she had read Omega's plans without any problems, and only Dr. Eggman or one of his creations was capable of doing that. Regardless, Belle insisted that Eggman did not build her.[3]
Weapons[]
Tails and Belle had both fixed up and rebuilt Omega, and offered him to test out his new body with a little sparring match with Gemerl. Omega didn't exactly go easy on Gemerl and, much to their distress, they found that both robots were in need of further repairs after their vicious match in their attempt to prove themselves.[4]
Test Run![]

Tails and Sonic later took Belle to the Restoration's new HQ where they met up with Amy and Jewel to get Belle somewhere to live. While there, they found out that Eggman had built a mysterious tower on the coast that was influencing the weather. From the video feed of the tower, Tails deduced that the energy ball at the top of the tower was behind the weather effects. Together with Sonic and Amy, Tails decided to go investigate the tower. Flying to the tower in the Tornado, Tails, Sonic and Amy defeated the group of Egg Pawns there before blowing through the tower's front door. By doing so however, they accidentally fell into a portal and woke up in an unusual corridor. Tails also noticed that the portal that had transported them there was no longer working. Making their way through the corridor, Sonic destroyed a Egg Pawn using a piece of chalk, an act which intrigued Tails. After ten minutes of walking through the corridor, Tails got a bad feeling and decided to conduct an experiment; leaving a trail of chalk on the wall, Tails had his group follow the corridor around in a circle. When they got back to their starting point, Tails saw his chalk trail had disappeared and reasoned that the corridor was altering itself as they passed through it. Sonic then decided to see if the corridor would be able to keep up with him and began running around with Tails and Amy. As the corridor began to overload, the trio destroyed one of the walls, only to fall into a strange space.[58] Catching Sonic and Amy there, Tails hypothesized that the space they were in was a creation of Eggman's where he could bend the laws of spatiality. Tails then took Sonic and Amy to another portal he spotted, but when they passed through it, Tails and co. found themselves in an abandoned town. While there, Tails reminded Sonic that this space using the same spatial warping as the first one when Sonic tried to run around the area. Immediately after, Amy called the duo to an open house. There, they found mannequins that they initially mistook for normal residents. Suddenly though, they heard a disturbing noise, which turned out came from a Badnik that was a hybrid of different models. After taking care of it though, other Badnik hybrids launched an attack on the group, but Sonic and Amy managed to defeat them. Upon noticing an army of Badnik hybrids approaching from the window though, Tails and co. barricaded themselves inside the house. There, Tails came up with the idea of finding an exit by tracking the signals for the incoming Badniks. Suddenly though, Tails and co. heard Eggman's laughter from the kitchen. Finding the doctor transmitting to them via the kitchen appliances. Eggman proceeded to inform the heroes that the spaces they were in were used as test chambers for his new robots, and that he would now use this opportunity to test his machines on them.[59]
Eventually. Tails tracked down an exit through which he and his friends could get out of Eggman's test chamber with, only for Eggman to reverse gravity inside the test chamber. While Tails managed to stay safe thanks to his flight ability, he eventually decided to throw himself into what turned out to be a new room with Sonic and Amy in an attempt to escape their situation. There, the heroes were attacked by an upgraded Egg Viper that used electrified shields. Although Tails helped Sonic destroy the vehicle, three new Egg Vipers quickly appeared to attack them. Although Tails helped Sonic and Amy get out of the flood caused by the blue Egg Viper, the green Egg Viper knocked them down with its turbine-induced whirlwinds.[60] As the fight continued, Tails and Amy were surrounded by flames from the red Egg Viper. Fortunately, they were saved by Sonic, who directed the blue Egg Viper's water jets into the flames. As the trio then were overwhelmed by the green Egg Viper's gusts, Tangle arrived to help. Tails proceeded to help his friends subdue the Egg Vipers, but Eggman soon had the mechs set to collide with the heroes. Fortunately, they managed to escape the collision thanks to Tangle, who dragged Sonic out of the test chambers with her tail while Tails followed them while carrying Amy. Once back in the tower, Tails and everyone else fled to the Tornado and escaped the tower before it imploded due to an overloaded test chamber portal. Informing his friends that the tower was completely gone, Tails proceeded to tell them that they would have a smooth flight to Restoration HQ from there. Tails would also worry about Belle, who had accompanied Tangle to the tower and discovered that her creator, "Mr. Tinker", had truly gone back to his evil ways.[61]
Zeti Hunt![]

Tails later contacted Sonic and got him to head out to help Team Chaotix in their efforts to stop the Deadly Six, who were causing trouble again and heading towards Sunset City.[62] To deal with the Deadly Six, Tails went to his lab in Central City, where he prepared his Zeti Zapper, a device he had reverse engineered from Zavok's Chaos Emerald syphon which could turn a Zeti's electromagnetism against them. He also prepared a rocket called the Zeti Launcher to send the Deadly Six back to the Lost Hex with. Following a video meeting with Sonic, the Chaotix and Jewel where he explained his inventions however, it was discovered that the Deadly Six were attacking Restoration HQ. Caught unguarded by this move, Tails gathered his inventions to take with him to Restoration HQ in the Tornado. He also tried to inform Sonic of this, only to notice that Sonic had already headed out.[63] Realizing he needed to hurry, Tails arrived at Restoration HQ using the Tornado 2. There, he and Sonic managed to take out all of the Deadly Six with the Zeti Zappers, including Zavok, whom Tails managed to trick in order to place a Zeti Zapper on him. However, they then heard from Tangle that Belle had been kidnapped by Dr. Starline.[64]
Having forced the Deadly Six into surrendering, Tails and Sonic sent them back to the Lost Hex in the Zeti Launcher as planned. After the Zeti Launcher had departed, the duo heard from Jewel that she had received no updates from the Chaotix. While Sonic reassured Jewel that the group would find Belle, but that he would join the search if necessary, Tails warned Sonic that they still did not know what Eggman and Starline were up to at the time.[65]
Trial by Fire and Deep Trouble[]
While at his lab in Central City, Tails would lend his prototype camping gear to Amy, who needed it for a camping trip. As Amy asked for a way to repay his kindness, Tails would ask for a report on his gear. When Sonic then contemplated on going with Amy though, Tails reminded him that he had promised to play a video game with him, making Sonic skip out on Amy's trip. Later that night, Tails noticed Sonic sneeze while playing his game.[66] Soon afterward, in his workshop, Tails would repair the damage Belle had sustained on her right hand during her trip with Amy. With Belle having brought a friendly Motobug that came to be named Motobud with her as well, Tails planned to take a look at it as well in hopes of figuring out if they could get lesser Badniks like Motobud to defy their programming too, which previously had only been possible for advanced Badniks.[67]

Eventually, Tails and Sonic were called upon Knuckles to come to Angel Island to help him with a problem. Traveling to Angel Island in the Tornado, Tails would dissolve an argument between Sonic and Knuckles that flared up when the two of them met. Afterwards, Knuckles told Tails and Sonic that he needed their team in order to investigate some unusual quakes in Marble Garden. Tails would then laugh at a snarky remark that Knuckles directed at Sonic before heading out with his friends. Soon after, as Tails and Sonic began discussing which way would be the quickest to Marble Garden (among other things), Knuckles would take them down a shortcut through the mountains. As Tails marveled at Knuckles' knowledge of Angel Island, Knuckles admitted that he had only found this shortcut recently and that he had yet to explore all of Angel Island. Eventually reaching Marble Garden, Tails and his team came across Dr. Eggman, who was causing the quakes by recklessly drilling for rare minerals in a drilling vehicle. Following then a few brief exchange, the trio engaged Eggman and his vehicle. During the battle, Tails saved Sonic from getting swallowed by a crack in the ground that Eggman made, and by working together, Tails and his friends defeated Eggman's vehicle. After Eggman had then fled from Angel Island, Tails offered Knuckles to come back with them for some R&R and see what had been going on without him. Knuckles declined the offer though, insisting that he still had a lot to discover about Angel Island first.[68]
Tails, Sonic, and Belle soon after began conducting an experiment on lesser Badniks that they had gathered at Tails' workshop. With the group having isolated Motobud's nonaggression subroutines, Belle would transfer them to the other Badniks, which made them docile in the presence of Sonic after Tails unveiled him to them. Their experiment a success, Tails tried to ease Belle's excitement about using this to save other Badniks. Furthermore, he was worried about Eggman being behind the recent chaotic incidents. Regardless, he and Sonic went for lunch in his workshop afterwards. Later at night, however, Tails awoke to find Belle and Motobud under the influence of a control signal. As Tails tried reasoning with Belle, he was saved from a nasty punch from her by Sonic, who would keep her and Motobud occupied while Tails wiped something up to help his friends. Soon after, Tails saved Sonic when Belle had him pinned down and placed a prototype Zeti Zapper on her that blocked the control signal. With Sonic keeping Motobud pinned down as well, Tails learned from Belle that it was a beacon signal controlling her and that it was being used to summon an army of Badniks from everywhere in one place. Since Belle could not recall where however, Tails and his friends resorted to setting Motobud loose and following it to the signal's source. Along the way, they found people surrounded by Badniks, but Sonic managed to get them out of the robots' hairs. Resuming their chase, the trio eventually reached some woods after hours of pursuit, where Tails found out that Eggperial City was just ahead of them after some scouting. Belle then tried to stop Motobud, which caught the attention of the surrounding Badniks. As Belle then went to work cutting Motobud's power and make the Badniks cease their attack, Tails and Sonic held the Badniks off. After Belle's plan worked and the Badniks resumed their mindless march, Tails discovered that Belle had found a written confession for her from Mr. Tinker inside Motobud. After Sonic had then comforted Belle, Tails suggested that she went home. Instead, she chose to come with them. Tails and his friends thus headed for Eggperial City to investigate.[69][70]
Battle for the Empire[]

As Tails headed into Eggperial City with Sonic and Belle, he noticed that was something odd: if Eggman was summoning his Badniks, then why had he not made a declaration about it. Inside the city, Tails and his friends noticed that Eggman was fighting someone. Immediately after though, Belle found a deactivated Metal Sonic nearby and went to fix him. As Sonic permitted this, Tails tried to remind him of how he once fixed Metal Sonic and it backfired. Before their discussion to go any further however, Sonic disappeared while Tails got dragged away by water tentacles. Discovering that the perpetrator was a fennec named Kitsunami, who had declared Tails his target, Tails broke free from his tentacles. Tails thought this was a misunderstanding, but Kit told him otherwise and engaged him. As he was pursued by Kit, Tails would complement Kit for his use of his Hydro Pack. This made Kit question Tails about why he was being nice to him, to which Tails replied that instead of fighting each other, they could find some common ground based on their own uniqueness.
Having noticed himself that Kit had not gotten support about his own differences like he had, Tails offered Kit to understand his pain and share support. Regardless, Kit began to break down as he did not know what he wanted. Noticing how vulnerable, yet volatile Kit was, Tails engaged in a more gentle conversation with him. As he began asking Kit questions, Tails learned that it was Starline who summoned the Badniks and that he had hurt and manipulated Kit repeatedly, which Kit hated him for. Though Tails wished to help defeat Starline, the fox cub's wish for Sonic to join them made Kit snap and turn on him again, as destroying Sonic was all Surge wanted and he would not let anyone stop her. As Tails then got hit by Kit when the former got distracted by a collapsing street, Kit thought he had Tails. Tails, however, revealed that he had been delaying their until Kit ran out of water. As that happened, Tails got up to Kit and shut his Hydro Pack off, causing Kit to collapse. Taking Kit with him, Tails found Sonic, who had just finished his fight with Surge, who fell into a chasm, and Belle, who had repaired Metal Sonic and returned him to Eggman. As Tails told his friends about what he had learned from Kit though, Eggman announced to Tails and Sonic over the city's speakers that he would give them a proper welcome, just as the city's Badniks surrounded them.[9]
Tails carried Kit as the Badnik Horde chased after the heroes. They found a building to hide in and Tails told Sonic Kit passed out when he turned off Kit's water pack and Starline traumatized him. When Belle said she connected to Metal Sonic, he asked if she could connect to the Eggnet to find a map of a city. Belle was able to find a hangar they could grab a shuttle there. Tails said he could hot-wire and fly it, but there are many Badniks in their way. Sonic assured he could clear a way for Tails and the others. Despite his worries, Tails agreed to the plan. While Sonic was distracting Eggman, Tails stealthy took out Guard Badniks patrolling around the hangar. He took out several of them with his Tails after Belle alerted him. With the coast clear, they ran into the hangar and got in the cockpit of the shuttle. Tails was able to get the shuttle flying and flew it over two identical towers so Sonic could wall jump onto the shuttle. After Sonic got on, Metal Sonic attacked the hanger, causing it to crash into the city. Tails was dazed by the crash, but otherwise unhurt. He helped Sonic up, who hurt his leg.[71]
Overpowered[]

Tails was able to get Kit out of his seat before Metal Sonic attacked the group. He flew Belle, Sonic, and Kit to a cramped area to slow Metal Sonic down. Tails kept flying with Sonic as they ran from Metal and he helped Sonic slow the robot down by knocking over some barrels. The group sunk into a room and Kit managed to free himself from Belle. Tails told him they weren't going to hurt him, but he got stumped when Kit asked where Surge was. Sonic convinced Kit to help them and Tails noted they needed a lot of water to refill his pack. Belle broke open some reservoirs and Tails got Sonic away from the fight as Kit attacked Metal Sonic. After the fight, Tails helped the group get over the wall of the city.[72]
The next day, Tails put new bandages on Sonic's hurt leg and got updated on Belle's progress to repair Motobud. He asked Sonic what they should do about Kit and was concerned when Sonic said he was going to tell Kit what happened to Surge. Later that day, he got a report from Jewel that someone was attacking Central City and agreed to check it out with Sonic. When they arrived, they were both shocked to see Surge fighting Whisper. Tails went to help Whisper and got her away from the fight with Sonic and Surge. He comforted her and assured they would get her Wisps back.[5] Tails then went to help Sonic with his fight with Surge, but got hit by her and was sidelined for a moment. When he came to, he went to Whisper's side and watched Sonic attack Surge with Cyan Laser. When Surge took the Cyan Wisp, Tails held back Whisper, saying they can't stop her unless they drain her power. He looked around and then got an idea.[6]

Tails signaled to Sonic to head into a hardware store. Tails told him to hold off Surge and meet him downstairs in the appliances section. Tails managed to hot-wire a bunch of appliances to jumper cables. When Sonic went down, he told him to stand in a certain spot. Surge then went downstairs and Tails attached the jumper cables to Surge's headgear, causing all appliances to start draining her power. Tails and Sonic then ducked for cover when Surge let out a massive blast of power, destroying the basement. Tails went to take off the headgear, when Kit came down the stairs, shocked by Surge being alive and hurt. Tails used his tails to deflect the water coils Eric was attacking Sonic with. He was ready to defend Sonic from Kit, when Surge waked up. Kit then picked up Surge and left the building. Later, they returned to his lab and helped Belle get out from the debris Kit buried her in. Tails and Sonic agreed they need to go after Surge and Kit.[6]
Tails and Sonic made it to Starline Base Sigma by following Surge's power readings. Just as they were about to go inside, Metal Sonic grabbed Sonic and flew inside the base with him. Tails yelled out he was coming for Sonic, but Eggman then appeared on his Eggwalker and a horde of Egg Pawns. Eggman was able to put together Tails was with Sonic and Metal went to fight him. Tails was able to outrun Eggman and arrive inside the base to help Sonic. Eventually, Metal left the fight to help Eggman after hearing him yell. Tails and Sonic realized it was Surge who was fighting Eggman. They arrived to fight Surge but she ran off. Tails talked with Sonic to figure out what to do and they figured they can't fight Metal Sonic and Surge at the same time. They agreed Surge is greater threat right now and made a truce with Eggman.

Using his Miles Electric, Tails saw there was only one way to go in the base and it was likely a trap. When they arrived at room, they found paperwork and designs for Surge and Kit created by Dr. Starline. Tails realized he analyzed his and Sonic's life to create Surge and Kit. Tails was disgusted by him brainwashing and kidnapping people to fulfill his goals. After Eggman boasted about Starline, Tails told him all he had to do was recognize him and none of this would have happened. Eggman said he would never do that and doing so after his death only makes himself look better. They left the room and went into another chamber, where Surge and Kit were waiting for them. After the imposters refused to give up the Dynamo Cage, the whole group sans Eggman began to fight.[73]
Tails flew up and stopped him from using his water coils against Sonic. Tails told Kit he doesn't want to fight him, but he won't let him hurt Sonic. Tails followed Kit as he climbed up the walls. While fighting off his water coils, he told Kit he read Starline's notes and was sorry what happened to him, but it does not excuse him and Surge hurting people. Tails tells him Surge is hurting herself and he knows that is not okay. After a moment, Kit put down and his coils. Tails put a hand on his shoulder and thanked him, saying Sonic will fix this. Tails then saw fall down from a Blue Wisp Cube and flew to grab him, but was too late and his friend fell in the water to getting shocked and strangled by Surge.

Thankfully, the Dynamo Cage broke and Surge passed out. Tails helped Sonic get up, shocked by what just happened. He stood ready to fight as Eggman told Metal to get the cage and Surge. Kit then came down and stopped Metal from attacking, but then grabbed everyone else in the room. Kit then started to destroy the room and left the room with Surge. He picked up Sonic to fly out the room, but got hit in the head by some debris. Sonic managed to reach the skylight and Tails used his remaining strength to help him up. Tails wondered for a moment if Eggman didn't escape, only to see him kick up some metal nearby. He looked angrily at Eggman as he asked to keep their truce going for a little longer. Sonic and tails reluctantly agreed, leaving the base to return the Wisps back to Whisper.[74]
Scrapnik Island[]

Some time later, Sonic and Tails found themselves in a severe thunderstorm while exploring the skies on the Tornado, which led to the plane being struck by lightning and plummeting down to an abandoned and decayed Death Egg on Scrapnik Island. Tails would meet the Scrapniks and would later find Sonic, who is running away from them. Tails then tells him that they are friendly. Sigma would then lead the both of them outside of the Death Egg to welcome them to Scrapnik Island. Tails was amazed by the Scrapniks making a whole civilization from recycled machines and spare parts. He went to explore the island with Sigma.[75]

After some tinkering, he was able to make a translator for the Scrapniks from his Miles Electric. He showed it to Sigma and he was impressed by it. Sigma then told him the Tornado could be repaired, but it needs a new integrated drive generator so it can fly. Sonic was up to find the part with Sigma, but Tails was concerned he would injure his foot more. Sigma assured Tails that he and Mecha Sonic would make sure Sonic would be safe. Tails offered to come with him, but the robot declined and told his assistants to help Tails fix the plane.[76]
A while later, a Scrapnik came to Tails to show footage it recorded of Mecha Sonic holding Sonic prisoner. Using parts from a scrap pile, Tails built a blaster and equipped a tracking scope. He and Sigma's helpers went into the ruined Death Egg to find Sonic. His Miles Electric was able to detect movement as they searched and the ducked behind a corner as an unknown robot came closer to them. They jumped out in front of the robot to confront it, but it turned out to be Sigma. Tails put down his blaster and asked what was going on. Sigma explained he wasn't able to remove all of Eggman's programing when they rebuilt Mecha Sonic and Mecha Knuckles. Sigma says somehow their old protocols have reawakened. Just then, the tracker started to beep louder and Mecha Sonic spoke through it. Mecha revealed to be behind the group and they turned around and started blasting at Mecha. It was no use and Mecha managed to grab Sigma and Mecha Knuckles away from the group. It then snatched one of Sigma's helpers into the darkness.[77]

Tails and the other two helpers retreated. Tails regretted underestimating Mecha's speed and came up with a plan to go into a small room to slow Mecha down, but he outran the other Scrapniks and Mecha confronted Tails on his own. Mecha Sonic explained he used to be Eggman's greatest creation, but the doctor left him him on the island to rust. Mecha declared he would make Eggman regret that decision. Tails asked what he did to Sonic and Mecha deflected the question and demanded Tails to give him the tablet. Tails refused and began firing at Mecha. Mecha weaved out of his shots and slapped away the blaster. Tails then did a Spin Dash into Mecha, but Mecha grabbed him and threw him to the ground. After Mecha Sonic took the tablet and threw Tails into a garbage cute.[77]
Tails managed to get out of the garbage and found Sonic and Mecha Sonic trapped in a incinerator. He was able to find Sigma and other Scrapniks to make a daisy chain to pull out the two from the scrap pile. Tails watched as Mecha Sonic reconciled with the Scrapniks. Tails was shocked to see Sonic crying, but Sonic explained it was Mecha's emotions that was causing him to cry. Soon, Tails removed all of Eggman's programing from Mecha Sonic and Mecha Knuckles. Sigma thanks Sonic and Tails for helping out and Tails said he was happy to help. Later, Tails was able to repair the Tornado with help from the Scrapniks and he flew off on the island with Sonic.[78]
Shattered Diamonds[]
Sonic would inform the Diamond Cutters he'd meet up with them to head to Eggperial City. Sonic and Tails soon arrive with Sonic apologizing for the wait and says they had a few Badnik's to pummel and Tangle responding saying how she could've benefited but Tails reassures there will be plenty of Badnik's in Eggperial City and they hero's leave.[79]
Urban Warfare[]
Tails would get a call from Jewel to help Sonic in Eggperial City. Tails, Amy, Silver, and Blaze would reach the city and immediately start fighting Badniks with Sonic. During a break in the action, Tails asked where the Diamond Cutters were. Sonic explained how the got trapped and how the city is destroying everything bellow ground to expand. Tails suggested Blaze goes to her home dimension to use the Sol Emeralds to rescue the Diamond Cutters. Blaze explained she can't jump through other dimensions besides her own and Sonic's. They concluded they have to get them out with Eggman tech, and Tails thinks he can use it if he has access. He had a felling the giant crystals could be the key to everything in the city and the group goes to clear the way for him.

Tails made it to a circuit board of a crystal to tap his Miles Electric into the Eggtech. The rest of the group fought Badniks as he did his work. He was bummed he couldn't see the action, but was able to figure out the crystals in the city were actually Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds. Tails explains they have the same properties but are woefully under-powered but more potent than Chaos Drives and Power Cores. Sonic asks why they are big, and Tails says its to increase their power output, but at the cost of the environment. They suggest to destroy them but Tails says that's a bad idea because it would blow up the city block and themselves. He explains all the emeralds are empowered by the command tower. Sonic is ready to take down the tower, but Tails says they need to reverse the energies trapping the Diamond Cutters first. As they head over there, they see a giant explosion. Sonic and Tails check it out while the others go ahead to the command tower. Sonic asks if more backup was on the way, but Tails said there wasn't any. They then see Team Dark on a rampage against the Badniks.[80]
They learned they are there to destroy and loot the city. Tails asks for them to team up, but Rouge and Omega decline, saying they would slow them down. Just after, Eggman "welcomed" them to the city over his PA system and unleashed a horde of Shadow Androids to take them out. Tails tried to get a reading on the robots, but they were too fast. The group was unable to take them out, so with some help from Silver, Sonic leaped away with Tails, Amy, and Blaze and joined Team Dark to fight the androids. Shadow then tapped into the Giant Fake Emeralds to use Chaos Control with Tails and the others encouraging him. Suddenly, more Giant Emeralds started to appear out of the ground. The group ran off as Shadow's powers went haywire. They viewed the destruction from another building and started to formulate another plan.[81] Silver and Amy shared ideas and Tails stated anything to increase their odds of success is essential. A moment later, Tangle reappeared by phasing through the ground and his Miles Electric. Amy then attempted to hit Tangle with her hammer, but it phased through her and destroyed the tablet. Tails picked up the pieces as Amy apologized. Tails was amazed by Tangle's semi-solid state, but Metal Sonic attacked them before he could say anything else. He helped hold Metal down and once he was disposed of, he suggested they move before Metal comes back and asks Tangle what she knows.[82]
Tails, Amy, Sonic, and Tangle then got to the central tower and Tails hot-wired an elevator to take them to the control room. They reviewed their plan to take down the city, with Tails theorizing the city would grow forever if they don't stop it. Just then, Metal Sonic cut the cable to the elevator. Tails started to fly up while holding onto the group. The group eventually made it to the control room with Metal hot on their tail. Amy shoved Eggman off his chair and Tails started to do his work on the computer. Sonic and Amy were taken out for a moment, letting Eggman close in on him. He spun his tails in Eggman's face as he finished disabling the safeguards for the Fake Emeralds. Eggman grabbed him just as he finished. The Giant Fake Emeralds growing around the tower, making it off-balanced, let Tails escape Eggman's grasp.[82]
Eggman stabilized the tower by making it mobile and then trapped Sonic in a Spatial-Displacement Trap, causing Tails to cry out in shock. Metal Sonic then attacked Tails and Amy. All seemed to be lost before Lanolin and Whisper entered the room and attacked Eggman. Tails then explained the traps partially displaced their bodies, but with him shutting down the computer, they are back in normal space. As they began their escape, Eggman sent Metal to attack them again. Tails recalled Sonic was also stuck in the same trap and at that moment Sonic returned and kicked Metal out of the tower. Tails flew out of the tower with Amy and Sonic and headed towards the giant Fake Chaos Emerald tower Shadow created. Once Shadow trapped the central tower, Tails helped propel Sonic up to take down the tower. Silver then protected Tails and the other as Shadow took out the Emeralds from the city via Chaos Control and the exploded in the sky.
Later, Tails joined a picnic with the Restoration and talked to Belle on how she repaired the Variable Wispon. When Amy asked where Sonic went, Tails said he ran off, adding "you know how he is".[83]
Sonic's 900th Adventure[]

Sonic was in one of Tails' Labs, where the fox was listing off all the times Sonic saved the world on his computer. After he counted that he saved the world 899 times, the Warp Topaz suddenly appeared. Using his Miles Electric, he saw it was still supercharged from the Chaos Emeralds and highly unstable. It also showed it was having a cyclical surge in power, which could cause severe damage or destroy their planet. Tails told Sonic they have to get rid of it by putting it back where Starline found it. He was hesitant for Sonic to take it, because if he takes too much of its unstable energy, he may never be his normal self again. Sonic said they could figure it out while he runs and he watches his back. Tails then felt confident in Sonic taking the Topaz and told him he would keep him updated via his Wrist Communicator. When Sonic took the Topaz, he warped out of the lab and Tails quickly communicated with him on his computer.
Tails then worked with Sonic to find the origin of the Warp Topaz. Along the way, he sent several of Sonic's friends to help him. During one warp, Sonic wound up in a lab where Metal Sonic was. Tails demanded Sonic to get out with the Topaz as Metal could not have it. Tails got scared as he heard Sonic sounding weak and Metal attacking him. Once he got another reading, and a confession from Sonic, Tails figured out Sonic purposely gave Metal the Topaz and was faking his injury to not alert him. Tails complimented Sonic and noted the effects of the gem wore off quickly when he wasn't holding it. Sonic was able to teleport with the Topaz back to Knuckles, with Tails realizing he was starting to control the gem. He was upset when Sonic didn't tell his plan to Knuckles, however.
After going through an abandoned mine, Sonic was warped into another cave. Tails then saw the energy levels in the cave were the same wavelengths as the Topaz and told Sonic he found the origion of the jem. Sonic managed to put the Topaz back where Starline found it and Tails was able to read Sonic getting out of the cave safely.[84]
Endless Summer[]
Sonic visited Tails behind his lab in Central City and invited the fox to come hang out with to enjoy the good weather. However, Tails was busy modifying the Tornado and asked Sonic to check if Restoration HQ's metal shop has a part he is missing. Sonic got the part and quickly went back to Restoration HQ.[85]
A Very Chaotix Halloween[]
Sonic and Tails were flying to Seaside City in the Tornado during Halloween, with Tails in a cowboy outfit. Tails saw Team Chaotix bellow and they decided to land near them, hoping they can Trick-or-Treat with them. They landed and Charmy told them about the case the Chaotix were investigating: a monster stealing candy from kids. Sonic suggested ditching Trick-or-Treating to help the Chaotix, and Tails agreed despite being a bit scared. Vector welcomed them and they soon reached the spot where the monster struck; they saw another group of kids run away from the monster. Tails pinpointed where the monster was with his Miles Electric via the direction of the screams. As they walked over, Sonic ran ahead of the group and found a clue: a candy bag in a tree. They found a trail of candy nearby and followed it. Soon, Charmy heard some people and quietly looked ahead. They saw a kid tricking another group of kids, but he ran away as soon as Charmy yelled at him. Sonic and Espio chased him, while the others consoled the kids he left behind.

Tails followed behind Vector as he went to save Sonic from the monster. Charmy and Vector attacked the monster, which turned out to be three kids in a costume. The kid from earlier landed a cheap shot on Vector and ran away, but Sonic and the others managed to nab the kids in the costume. Tails stopped the kid, Herschel, and lassoed him. Tails brought Herschel back to the group tied up. Rowdy tried to negotiate the stolen candy with them, but Espio refused. Noah said they stole it fair and square, but Vector said they are returning the candy they stole. As they found the candy, they found a big one that looked like a jem. Tails talked to Herschel, saying the person they stole the candy from must feel terrible that they lost it. The kids apologized and Tails untied Herschel. They returned to the city to hand out the candy. Tails complimented Rowdy for his robot arms and asked for their specs. Rowdy says those are usually secret, but he would make an exception for him. Charmy got sad that he didn't get any candy, but Tails told him there should be enough for them to have some too.[86]
Winter Jam[]
Tails and his friends are relaxing in Green Hill, when a Giant Chopper ambushes them, and swallows them, taking them to an unknown location. they are in Orbot and Cubot's Winter Jam, Team Sonic's first activities are to create a scenery related to the holidays. Sonic costs him and Tails a win due to his carelessness, entangling both into the lights.
The next game is "Snowball Jam", where a team has to carry an Eggman Doll to the finish line safely, while avoiding snowballs from the other teams trying to destroy it. Sonic takes the Eggman Doll, but the doll can't handle his high speeds, disintegrating into mere fleeces. Team Big is demoralized and surrenders, giving Team Dark the win for Snowball Jam. The teams are interviewed again.
The contestants go through several more games before coming playing Sculpt Jam, where the teams have to make ice sculptures. Team Sonic creates a simple sculpture of Sonic and Tails' friendship, but it is fragile and collapses, leaving Sonic distraught at his constant failures at a reality show. The commotion causes Eggman to arrive at the scene and is shocked by what is going on. Cubot presses a button that sends Sonic's friends out of arena and back to Green Hill, while Tails gets the Chaos Emerald. Artificial snow rains down on Green Hill and the lights that landed from the set make a beautiful scene. Sonic says they should enjoy the moment and the group goes back to relaxing and playing.[87]
The Protector[]
Tails and Sonic are tracking down the location of a Chaos Emerald, Tails is able to locate it, however Sonic goes without asking where it is, but suddenly an earthquake happens, causing Sonic to fall, Tails tries to help him only to get dragged in too, Sonic tries to catch him but fails, falling deeper into the abyss.
Sonic wakes up alongside Tails, and find out they have landed in a underground cave system, as they explore when Tails is able to locate the Chaos Emerald again, they discover that this used to be a mine, but it seems to be abandoned, as the move forward, they discover a cave with an interesting flora, as Tails tries to find the Chaos Emerald, Sonic is able to find it, however he is attacked by a giant salamander, which he counters with a kick.
As Sonic keeps avoiding being hit by the giant salamander, Tails is able to save him by giving Sonic his Extreme Gear and doubles the salamander to irritate it, as Tails theorized, the salamander stopped attacking, it turns out the salamander is not a predator, but only attacked to keep it's territory safe, Sonic goes down and convinces the salamander to let them go, in exchange of keeping this place hidden, the salamander accepts and shows them an exit route.
Sonic and Tails leave the cave, while Sonic causes a cave-in, much to Tails' disappointment, however Sonic reminds that the salamander wants to be left alone, with Tails accepts, with both leaving with the Chaos Emerald.
Phantom Riders[]

Tails, along with Sonic and Amy would join as a team in the Clean Sweepstakes race. Once the race started, Sonic encouraged him and Amy to show them what they can do. While doing so, Tails became too busy geeking over people's extreme gear to which Sonic questions him if he wants to test his new prototypes or watch, whereby Tails then regains his focus on the race. Once the Babylon Rogues catch up to them, Wave then teases Tails over his extreme gear, but Amy quickly defends him, telling Wave she would choose Tails' gear over hers any day. Suddenly the teams boards start malfunctioning. Amy hangs onto her board as it drags her around. Tails carries Sonic as the pair try and save Amy, which leads to the trio hanging on to the back of the upgraded Pink Rose. The chaos is ended by Whisper who blasts the three boards with her Cyan Laser to help them. Lanolin disqualifies them for being a hazard. Later in Central City Sonic, Tails, and Amy are sitting in a restaurant and become suspicious over their disqualification, questioning their Extreme Gear. Tails is upset beliving he did something wrong with his prototypes, but Amy says otherwise, as her gear wasn't build by him but got hijacked as well. She also claims that after the race, the staff of Clean Sweep Inc. refused to let them even approach the battleship and the people on it. Realizing something suspicious is going on behind the event, the trio decide to investigate the shuttle, but question how they'll enter it until Eggman walks in saying he has a proposition. He recalls of how after the heroes wrecked Eggperial City, he wanted to do some more research. After catching the opening ceremony of the race, he became furious over Clean Sweep Inc. mocking him. Eggman managed to create an extreme gear called the Eggstreme Gear and a proposition is made Sonic becomes a distraction in the races while Tails and Amy investigate the airship.[88]
While the second race is ongoing Tails and Amy fly on the shuttle and hit boxes without getting caught, Amy mentions how she knows how to get to the machine shop as she explored a lot of the shuttle during the Metal Virus. Soon after they arrive, Tails looks through the garbage disposal, Amy looks elsewhere. A hand jumps on her face, once they get it off, the hand points towards a locker. Inside the locker is a tied up Belle the Tinkerer.[89] Aboard the Restoration Shuttle, Tails and Amy are shocked to see Belle trapped inside one of the lockers. After they free her and reattach her separated hand Belle explains that she was helping inspect the Extreme Gear but was stopped by the Clean Sweepstakes Security, who, according to Belle, had practically taken over the Restoration instead of helping it. Although she did not get a good look at him, she recalls seeing a creepy person giving orders to the security guards, with his hat and coat in particular standing out to her. Recognizing this description, Amy asks if he also had a cane, which Belle confirms, thus revealing to Amy who the leader of Clean Sweep Inc. is.[90]

Tails, Amy, and Belle head for Jewel's office, where they find Doctor Yolk and Nick guarding the entrance. Amy sends Belle forward to tell Jewel what is happening, but Doctor Yolk does not let her inside, stating that Jewel is too busy to see anybody. Belle notices that Doctor Yolk's bow tie is missing, only to realize it is the same bow tie she was tied up with. Doctor Yolk grabs her and prepares to lock her up again, causing Tails and Amy to rush to her aid. However, Nick appears in front of them. Belle pulls on her tail, causing her to kick Doctor Yolk and free herself from his grip. Tails pulls down the zipper on the back of Nick's mascot costume, revealing a familiar tail and smell to Amy. Rough and Tumble reveal themselves to the three, only to immediately start calling for backup. With Clean Sweepstakes Security on the way, Tails, Amy, and Belle are forced to flee, with the skunk brothers in pursuit.[91]
On the Battleship Tails, Amy and Belle and running from Rough and Tumble who tells the trio to keep running when Amy spots another hallway and realizes it's a dead end when they hide around the corner until they hear someone and Rough ask if they had seen anyone run by and they respond saying they went the opposite way. Soon Tails, Amy and belle are greeted by Don who tells them they are bad hiders which ends up spooking them causing Amy to pull out her Piko Piko Hammer while Tails and Belle hold her back, Don ask to confirm if there Sonic's friends with Amy then asking if he's seen Sonic when she adds if he okay while Tails ask about sweepstakes and if it's still ongoing when Belle ask who he is and soon tells them to address him one at a time. Don introduces himself saying he is a friend of the Chaotix and that they're missing, and he thinks there on the airship somewhere. Tails adds on saying that makes sense that they're investigating as well, when Amy asks where they are and why haven't they seen them across the ship somewhere, when Belle leads them to the engine room when Amy says that she hates it down there when suddenly they come to the door that leads to the main engine and Tails says he can use his Miles Electric to get it unlocked when Belle reminds Tails she works here and that she can open it. Once they're inside, Don and the others find theChaotix in a cage sleeping when Vector jumps up excited to see them, and Don caringly tells them to get it together. Charmy then says that they almost got out when Espio asks what Don is doing here and Don responds saying that he's come to save them, and that Nite wouldn't let him hear the end of it otherwise, when Amy explains that they are also investigating Clean Sweep.
Amy further says that Sonic is outside keeping their security busy with Vector revealing that he has a USB drive with a every bit of dirty dealings and information he managed to get about Clean Sweep that would make them history once it gets out. Soon Tails and Belle unlock the cage and Charmy bursts out happy to be free when suddenly Rough, Tumble and Clutch appear along with his security. With Clutch saying that he did not expect this many guests further saying if you want something done do it yourself.[92] While everyone else was fighting Tails and Belle hurry over to try and open the door when Clutch uses his Gun Cane to hit them and barley misses Tails, with Clutch saying how he's only getting warmed up and further calling him a "kid". They soon rush up to safety when soon Tails and Belle open the door helping Charmy flee in the process until Belle announce that there stuck due to Clutch.[93]
In the engine room of the Restoration shuttle, with twenty-five minutes remaining before it self-destructs, Amy, Tails, and Belle attempt to open the door through different means, with the former swinging at it with her hammer while the latter two try to hack the door console open. However, neither method yields any success. Belle is surprised that the engine room has a self-destruct system, which only Jewel has the codes for, with Tails commenting that the system overloading itself is why the room is getting so hot, and that the entire door console has been fried. Amy continues attacking the door, only to be hit in the arm by a bust of hot steam. Don laments his fate, remarking how he always hated saunas, although Vector, refusing to give up, tries to shove the door open but to no avail. Back in the engine room, Espio reminds Tumble that he promised Vanilla he would turn over a new leaf, and asks why he has not done so. Tumble explains that he and Rough did, as they were originally only told to wear the mascot costumes, only for Clutch to continue asking more out of them. Don asks why they did not quit if they did not like it, although they are unfamiliar with the concept as they have always been fired before getting the chance to quit. This time, however, they decide to quit on their own and ask to be released from the cell, promising to help out. Espio tells them that the door was never locked and that the only prison was in their minds, allowing them to realize they can leave. The skunk brothers walk up to the door and begin pushing it together, causing it to actually move. Vector and Nite then start pushing with them, allowing them to eventually break out of the room.

Tails' group arrives at the main bridge, from which all of the Clean Sweep guards have fled. Despite Amy suggesting that they leave as well, Tails attempts to hack into the shuttle's system, only for the hardware to melt in front of him. Before the shuttle can get any closer to the city, it is suddenly pulled upwards by numerous hover cars using tethers to connect to the shuttle while the Babylon Rogues guide them, much to Amy's shock and Nite's delight. Belle questions whether this will actually work, but Tails states that it is their only option now. Sonic suddenly crashes into the shuttle's glass window and tells the others to get onto the deck. Using her hammer, Amy shatters the window and gleefully hugs Sonic, who inadvertently surprises the Chaotix when he mentions Eggman's involvement. Jet boasts to Sonic about his team's efforts as they continue to pull the shuttle away from the city. A local news anchor is reporting on the situation, explaining that they have been unable to get in contact with the ship due to it possibly being abandoned or sabotaged, but the cameraman stops filming and decides they need to leave. Jewel decides that instead of stopping the ship, they will have to change its course to the Emeraldville Ruins, where Restoration HQ is. Sonic informs the Babylon Rogues of the change in plans, and Jet begrudgingly cooperates after being reminded by Wave that they do not have time to argue. Amy asks Jewel if Restoration HQ is empty, to which the beetle tearfully responds that it would be a better crash site than the city. Sonic comes back into the main bridge, asking why everyone looks upset. Amy tells him that the ship is going to crash into and explode on top of a building full of people, but Sonic notes that they still have time before that happens. As Jet informs him that they have turned the ship, Sonic challenges the hawk to a friendly competition: whoever can evacuate the most people from Restoration HQ first wins. Jet accepts, and he, Sonic, Tails, Amy, Belle, and the Chaotix head the the HQ while Nite, Don, Jewel, Rough, and Tumble remain behind.
Tails follows Belle into the machine shop, which is too far away from the main hall for anyone in there to hear any warnings. Once the shop is clear, Belle plans on saving the incomplete Motobud, who she had been struggling to repair for weeks before the Clean Sweepstakes. Since moving his exposed circuitry could risk causing him to lose his memory, Belle decides to finish repairing him first. Despite her wanting them to leave, Tails and the Chief Mechanic volunteer to help her out while they can. Sonic calls out for any survivors. Tails shouts back as he walks forward from the nearby rubble, pointing to where Belle, Motobud, and the Chief Mechanic are trapped under some debris. Sonic instructs Belle to kick the beam above her on his mark, and for Tails to follow his lead. After he counts down to zero, Belle does as she is told, allowing Sonic to dash in and grab them. When Sonic is knocked back by a piece of rubble, Motobud suddenly takes flight, allowing them all to safely escape. Amy once again embraces Sonic, happy to see that he and the others are okay. Charmy is impressed by Motobud's ability to fly, to which Belle responds by explaining that although she borrowed some leftover Extreme Gear parts, it was Tails who got it working. The Chief Mechanic praises Tails for living up to his reputation as a genius, wondering if he can still convince the fox to work for him. Nite, Don, Jewel, Rough, and Tumble then arrive at the scene aboard The Bad Investment, with Nite bragging to Don about the RV being a good idea.
Later on, Sonic and Tails head to Tails' Lab to get some rest after a long and exhausting day. However, they notice the door is already cracked open, leading Sonic to wonder if someone broke in. His suspicions are confirmed when Tails notices the missing generator core, where the yellow Chaos Emerald once was. The Chaos Emerald is seen hovering over a small stand in a strange, dark room, serving as the only source of light within it.[94]
Scattered Pieces[]
Tails explains the sources they need to rebuild Restoration HQ, from Sonic the Hedgehog #76.
Many days after the destruction of Restoration HQ, Tails and Amy return to Emerealdville Ruins and welcome Silver and Blaze back from their world tour. When Blaze shows her remorse for not being there with her friends during their time of peril, Tails tries to comfort her saying she was on vacation, but she claims that a princess must protect her people. When Tails objects that they are not from her world, she responds she considers her friends her people as well and claims she will do everything she can to protect them and their homes. Amy warmly hugs Blaze for hew sweetness, but lets her go embarrassed, remembering the former is not a hugger. Blaze volunteers to help rebuild and asks what their next steps are. Tails responds they were going to head to other regional offices for rebuilding efforts, as Restoration HQ was originally the center of it. Viewing the destroyed shuttle on top of the destroyed HQ, Amy, a little depressed, claims they need to check if everyone is okay and if the entire network has collapsed. Tails also hopes that, during their travel, they can discover what happened to the yellow Chaos Emerald he was holding on. Later that day, Tails takes Amy and Blaze on the Tornado to search for the sources they need.
For My Destiny[]

Tails and Amy would tell Sonic and Knuckles to stop arguing. Knuckles then ask the group what they're doing here and did something happen. Amy responds saying does something have to happen to come visit their good friend and Tails jumps in and says that they just wanted to check in on him and make sure he wasn't getting lonely. Tails further explains that it was Sonic's idea when Sonic says how it was a good idea and saying how he missed their "beautiful friendship" when Tails apologizes for being late saying how they got sidetracked. Knuckles then says how an unexpected adventure happens and knows them to well and asks what happened when Sonic starts by saying it started this morning.[95]
Spring Broken![]
Tails and Sonic go to the Spring Flower Festival to have fun and ride rides, while there they run into Amy who tells them about the Annual Flower Frolic Competition being held, later on they would meet up with Silver, Espio and Jewel who are competing. Once Amy and Nite introduce the participants Silver's plant catches on fire causing him to be eliminated, after Tail tries to think on who could have done this to Silver, which Vector helps them find out who tampered with Silver's flower. But after discovering that Silver was the cause of his failure the case would be solved until they found out that someone but herbicide in his plant. Then they run into Big who mentions the suspect running throughout the festival later they would find out that it's Charmy, but he was confused due to the label being purposely swapped by Rough. Shortly after the winner was announced Tails and Sonic enjoyed the rest of their time riding rides.[96]
