The Micky is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a race of small mice Animals native to West Side Island, and are close friends of Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies. The Mickies are known for having been targeted by Dr. Robotnik who seeks to use them as energy sources for his various Badniks and imprison them in Capsules for later use.

Description

Anatomy

Mickies strongly resemble mice in appearance. They are very small rodents with grey fur, round pink ears, a pointy nose, two dark eyes, pink paws, and a thin pink tail.

Game appearances

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The Mickies first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit). In this game, the Mickies and the other Animals from West Side Island were captured by Dr. Robotnik to become power sources for Badniks that Robotnik needed to finish the Death Egg. The Mickies can be found in Mystic Cave Zone where they pop out of destroyed Badniks or the opened Capsule at the end of the second Act. In the 2013 mobile re-release of the game, they can also be found in Hidden Palace Zone.

Sonic Mania

In Sonic Mania and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, the Mickies reprise their roles from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by being organic power sources for Dr. Eggman's Badniks again. The Mickies can be found in Studiopolis Zone, where they pop out of destroyed Badniks or the opened Capsule at the end of the second Act.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, a Micky appears as one of the animals saved by Amy Rose and her friends from one of the many capsules in Eggman Island Zone.

Trivia

• It is unknown if "Micky" is the original name of this Animal, or if it was given the name during the development of Sonic Mania, as it was the only Animal from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which had no officially published name prior. Eight of the twelve Animals in the game were featured and named in the art book, Sega TV Game Genga Gallery (セガ TVゲーム 原画ギャラリー, Sega TV Game Genga Gallery^?), and seven of the twelve Animals were featured and named in Sonic Jam's Character House. Between the two of them, Micky is the only character missing, however, its illustration appears in volume six of the Sega pamphlet, Mega World, which features illustrations of ten of the Animals, albeit unnamed.

• Micky has a section in Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia, where it is incorrectly depicted with fan art drawn by DeviantArt user, Retroowl. The book also erroneously claims the Mickies' debut being at the restored Hidden Palace Zone in the 2013 remaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but the Animal can be also found in Mystic Cave Zone.
• Despite being depicted in-game with tan limbs, Micky's official artwork depicts him with white feet and gray hands.
• Micky’s name was possibly intended as a reference to Mickey Mouse.
