Meteor Herd

Meteor Herd (メテオハード Meteo Hādo?) is the fourteenth stage of the Hero story in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and is the last stage playable as Knuckles the Echidna. It is also the stage in the Dark story where Rouge fights Knuckles.

Description[]

Meteor Herd takes place on the outside of the Space Colony ARK, inside of a meteor field. The lowest area is home to many pieces of yellow equipment that appear to be bulldozers of sorts, as well as housing a large tank filled with lava. Meteorites also fall from the sky. Higher up in the level, Knuckles comes across many small platforms, as well as indestructible Container-like boxes that are fixed in floating positions around the level.

It's Dark story counterpart is Mad Space.

Story[]

During the heroes' trip, their shuttle's cargo bay opens up, causing the shards of the Master Emerald to fly out into space. Due to Knuckles' panicking over the loss of the Emerald Shards, the shuttle nearly had a crash landing. Upon landing at the Space Colony ARK, Knuckles heads off to the outside of the colony to find the Emerald Shards. After finding them, Knuckles then battles Rouge, who gives him the remaining Master Emerald shards after being defeated.

Gameplay[]

Overview[]

1st Mission: Find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald![]

2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings![]

There are plenty of Rings in this stage, but the trick is holding onto them with all the Meteorites failing from the sky. If the player keeps moving, the chances of being hit will be reduced. To complete this mission as quickly as possible, the player should begin by gathering the eight Rings around at the starting point, and another six on the ground just ahead. There is an Item Box containing 20 Rings on the blue tube to the east, and another six Rings on the ground east of that. The player should break the large Container atop the platform directly east of the large center structure to find another 10 Rings Item Box. There is another Item Box containing 5 Rings on the middle ledge jutting out from the west of the large central structure, and a 10 Rings behind the northern door on the west wall. The remaining Rings are easily obtained by taking the rocket between the four towers to the first set of platforms overhead.

3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao![]

The Ancient Ruin in this stage is on the building high overhead. To reach it, the player should start by taking the rocket between the four towers of the large central structure, which will drop the player on a platform with a Spring. If the player bounces from that Spring, they will land on a blue platform with another rocket. The player should also take that rocket, and once it is possible to let go, stick to the wall and Climb up to the ledge. The player then has to Glide around the building to the right to come to another ledge, before repeating the process from atop it to land next to the Ancient Ruin. Activating that Ancient Ruin with the Mystic Melody opens a Warp Hole leading into a narrow room containing another Ancient Ruin, which will open yet another Warp Hole. By going through the portal, the player will finally find the lost Chao.

4th Mission: Collect the Emerald pieces in 4 minutes 30 seconds![]

A good strategy for this mission is for the player to take the rockets mentioned in the section above, then Glide down in a circle to see if anything comes up on the Emerald Radar.

Last Mission: Clear Hard mode![]

As with all Hard mode treasure-hunter levels, the Master Emerald shards are found in three set locations, and are as follows:

  1. The first Emerald Shard is behind the southern door on the eastern wall of the large central structure.
  2. To find the second Emerald Shard, the player first needs to head for the platform just above the Spring at the very top of the large central structure, distinguished from the others by the Extra Life Item Box resting on the metallic beam that juts from it. Once there, the player should walk off to the end of the beam with the Item Box at its edge and equip the Sunglasses, which will reveal a hidden Spring at the end of the beam. The player must bounce from it, and gently push right on the control stick as a second Spring is coming down. The player must use this Spring while turning the camera to get a bearing on the Emerald Shard's location, then Glide at the apex of the bounce to grab it.
  3. To find the third Emerald Shard, the player should return to the building where the lost Chao is found. Instead of Climbing up after releasing the rocket though, they should instead go to the right until a ledge with a Phoenix and a moon symbol comes into view. Once there, the player should put the Sunglasses on, and a Spring will appear next to the moon symbol. The Spring will launch the player into the air. They must then Glide forward to grab the Emerald Shard.

Level Up Items[]

The Level Up Item in Meteor Herd is the Sunglasses. Near the starting area is a large tower at the center of the meteor. The four sides of this tower feature panels that can be broken by punching a Meteorech at them. Behind one of these panels is a Ball Switch that will open up the floor panels on the tower. Inside this magma chamber is the item.

Chao Container locations[]

  1. The player should drop down on the left of the starting platform to find the first Chao Container.
  2. To get the second Chao Container, the player must use a stationary Meteorech to open the door on the south side of the central tower. Doing so will reveal the second Chao Container behind the door.
  3. In the platform area with the large Containers, the third Chao Container can be found inside the front left Container.

The player should head left around the large central structure to arrive between docks 0-2 and 0-3. From there, they can see three square pipes come out and extend below a floor. The player must go up to the glass section of this floor and look through it. There, Big can be seen hanging onto the left side of the center pipe.

Trivia[]

The end of the invisible Grind Rail, from the 2012 remaster of Sonic Adventure 2.

  • As in Mad Space, the player can find Item, Weapon, and Armor drop boxes from Phantasy Star Online.
  • There is an unused Grind Rail in this stage. It is invisible, but it is usable if the player hacks and chooses to play as either Sonic or Shadow. It starts on the central tower, and the player must go the middle set of girders, then to the middle of the girder on the right, as seen from the starting point.
