Metal Sonic is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures. He is a robotic doppelgänger of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Appearance[]
Metal Sonic was created in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and is thus mostly built of blue metal. He has a yellow circular depression in his chest with a black center, mirroring the peach skin on Sonic's chest. His head has metal fins resembling Sonic's quills and a pair of triangular "ears." Metal Sonic has a muzzle, shoulder plates, upper arms, legs, and fingers made out of silvery metal. His palms are black, while the backs of his hands are square yellow plates. His forearms and lower legs are blue metal like his head and torso, and he has red feet with white stripes designed to resemble Sonic's shoes. To simulate the hedgehog's eyes, he has monitors with cameras behind them, giving them a red sclera. He has an ellipsoid torso. He also has detailed hands, a brilliant blue paint job, joints on his arms and legs, and sharp eyeholes.
His clones, on the other hand, still retain the original's appearance. But unlike the original, they're built out of silver metal.
History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]
Metal Sonic is seen sneaking up on Sonic and charging an energy cannon on his arm. When he fires it, it creates a devastating explosion in the forest, but Sonic is nowhere to be seen. Sonic is then shown behind Metal, taunting him before knocking the robot away with a single strike. Metal adjusts himself and stands up to Sonic taunting him again. As Sonic begins to engage Metal again, several vermilion eyes glow in the background, and is revealed to be a squadron of his silver copies, leaving Sonic confused. The mechanical hedgehogs all charged at Sonic, but a large hammer flies in and destroys most of the copies just before they could reach him, leaving the original still standing. Once Metal Sonic's copies are destroyed, Sonic learns that his rescuer is none other than Amy Rose.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4[]
All that is known about his involvement in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film is that he will most likely be a major antagonist, facing off against Amy and Sonic.
Powers and abilities[]

Metal Sonic's arm cannon, from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (film).
Metal Sonic has the ability to transform his right arm into an energy cannon, which is strong enough to annihilate a wooden sign and burn a large area in a forest Sonic is in. He is quite durable, being able to withstand a chaos energy-infused strike from Sonic. He also has multiple clone versions of himself, which he can presumably command.
Judging by the amount of electricity he emitted when landing near Sonic, he may possess the ability to manipulate chaos energy.

Trivia[]
- Following Dr. Robotnik's presumed death in the final moments of the Project Shadow incident, it's currently unknown who built Metal Sonic.
- The mass-produced Metal Sonic copies might be a nod to the Brotherhood of Metallix from Sonic the Comic.
- Metal Sonic's movement reuses the sound effects from the Transformers films. It was also done by Paramount Pictures, which has reused the sound effects for Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong. Paramount Pictures is also the company who produces the Sonic the Hedgehog film series.
