Template:Character Metal Robotnik (ブラックエッグマン Burakku Egguman?, lit. Black Eggman), introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie, was a giant robotic version of Robotnik, created by the evil doctor to destroy Sonic and Tails. Robotnik claimed that Metal Robotnik has conquered his peaceful hometown, Robotropolis, in order to lure Sonic to a trap.
Physical Appearance
Metal Robotnik is a giant red, gray and black egg shaped robot with red eyes and interchangeable arm attachments. He also has missile launchers built into his chest area and expandable wings and a jet-pack on his back. His voice and personality perfectly match that of Robotnik. It is later found to be a mecha driven by Dr. Robotnik and the "kidnapped" Princess Sara when it is completely destroyed by Sonic.
Like Robotnik, it likes being in control and dislikes being mocked. He put up a great fight for Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, but despite his tough armor, he was easily ripped apart by a well placed spinball attack from Sonic. It was then revealed that Robotnik was piloting the giant mech from a cockpit inside the stomach. The giant mech returned later when Metal Sonic was born, only to fall apart from its damages from its previous battle.
History
He is introduced as a rival of Robotnik whom conquered his city (called Robotropolis in the English dub, but Eggmanland in the original) with his demonic robots and sabotaged the cities Robot Generator, which generates power to the city. This is set to cause a giant explosion due to the excessive energy being produced.
When Sonic and Tails approach the Ancient Ruins he attacks them as soon as he sees them. He forces them off a bridge and they try to fool him into thinking they are dead. He sees through this and fools them into beleiving he fell for it, he surprises them as they try to leave and starts to pelt them with his Glue weapon and Tails becomes stuck to the fence. He fires some missiles at Sonic but he manages to grab and steer one of them back into him. Sonic gets stuck on the floor afterwards and it starts to cave in and fill with water. Just as Metal Robotnik is about to shoot Sonic, Knuckles knocks him to the ground and frees Tails. During the battle with Knuckles he runs out of ammo so he resorts to picking him up and squeezing him. After Sonic is pulled out of the hole by Tails he slices Metal Robotniks arm off with a Spin Dash and then impales him twice as he tries to fly away. Sparks emit and then he explodes and falls into the water far out of their view. Robotnik and Sara emerge from the vehicle unharmed.
Metal Robotnik comes back one more time in nonfunctional form as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles reach Robotropolis. It appears he's perfectly alright until Robotnik's minions drop him. He crumbles to the ground finally revealing to everyone that this was simply an mecha being piloted by Robotnik as part of a plan to get Sonic's data and put it in Hyper Metal Sonic.

Appearances in Other Media
Archie Comics
Metal Robotnik appears briefly in Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog, as its appearance is slightly different with blue colored body and yellow cloak in Sonic the Hedgehog #101. In issue's story, it is a manually controlled robot made by Robotnik to help in the capture of Princess Sara, but interference arrived in the form of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles after he captured the princess. After Metal Robotnik used its laser eyes to attack Sonic and Tails, Knuckles flew in to their rescue, but somehow, duplicates of Metal Robotnik appeared to challenge them. However the scene changes to another one and all characters are never seen in comics. (StH #101)
Trivia
- Metal Robotnik seems to be very loosely based on the Death Egg Robot from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
