Hi <insert name here>! I'm an administrator here at the Sonic News Network wiki, specializing in editing, moderating and managing both the shape and functionality of the wiki using any method that FANDOM offers. If you have anything to ask, feel free to message me below. And I shall answer if I can!
While I totally understand the reason why you added this, and I'm totally fine if do you want to show a message to the editors and readers on the pages where there's a Featured Video, I would like to request you to use another way to show the message.
This kind of banner is basically used for special purposes, and if you add that variable to show your custom message in a bunch of pages, it can turn into a conflict of messages. I know other communities, that also have Featured Videos, that are also using similar messages like you, but they chose other options like a template inside the pages. One of them is Red Dead Wiki.
I expect you will understand my concern because the use of the banner, and I'd be glad if you change (if you don't want to remove it) the way you show the message soon. Feel free to reach me with any doubt or concern regarding this.
Hi. Thanks for contacting me. The reason why we used this method is because you guys have left us of no method of tracking featured videos (list) so we opted for using js to automatically detect when your featured video is invoked.
Also, I remember that wiki open-source developers were allowed to use the banner to create their own notification for some of their scripts so I cannot see why our use of it is a problem.
Furthermore, unless something has changed for the last months, the banner can be invoked several times so several banners can be shown at once without any conflict.
Hi again Luma.dash! Sorry for the late reply, but the main reason was because I was working with something.
We understand your concerns about having out-dated or incorrect content in the featured videos. As a solution, we'd like to offer to remove them and replace them with a newer video program called "The Loop". The Loop isn't specific to Sonic, but is produced each week about news in gaming, so its much fresher content and is updated regularly.
This would eliminate the need for the warning banner, since it is clearly produced by Fandom and not related to the article topic. Unlike Featured Videos, it is only shown once per session to a user, rather than every time pages are loaded. Hopefully this would be a better experience for visitors to the Sonic Wiki.
Let me know what's your opinion about this. Thanks!
Hi again! My colleagues have confirmed me we have retired all the Featured Videos on the Sonic News Network and we have included the The Loop videos. I've been checking some pages that had FV (Miles "Tails" Prower, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog) and they are not showing the videos. You can retire the banner when you want, because is currently showing an outdated message. Thanks for all!
The problem is likely that you are still using a logged in account to look at the pages. No one that is logged into Fandom can see the videos. However, those who do not have Fandom accounts will see them. And that's exactly what I did to check if the videos were still there. And they are.
Hi again! When I wrote my last message, I actually tested it also as an anon without log in my account. The result was the same: I didn't see any featured video, at least in the 3 mentioned pages. Because of your last message, I consulted again with my colleagues, and they confirmed me we don't have any Featured Video on the Sonic News Network, neither for logged in users nor for anon readers.
I'm certain sure that if you were still seeing FV when you posted your last message was because cache. If you're still seeing them, please send me a screenshot of the issue to explore the case, because you shouldn't see them at this moment. Thanks!
I've seen it on several wikis now and want to create something similar, but it just doesn't seem to work on my main wiki. Is there a special plugin required? And if I do get it to work, do you mind if I use it?
Hey there! I'm a Community Manager here at Fandom and I wanted to say thanks for all the work you do. I'd love to buy you a game or send you some swag. If you're up for it email me at email@example.com or hit me on Discord HeyTots#1127
So, do you know how the image box works and the main page's Wiki/Portal. I want to transfer them onto my wiki but don't know how it works. Can you help me? Can you give me the bit of the programming for them from the CSS?
I have good reasons to protect titles is for the case of vandals using inappropriate titles to attack the wiki like this user for instance renaming items and Eggman's robots to erotic things which needs to be banned for that.
I am asking for some helps. So guess I will become its bureaucrat to rein in these violators.
I would perhaps going to have Anh Lam's help to get it under control. After all, the fandom was insisted for kids and fans to read about the true details of the show/game/etc they're based on, not those vandalizing stuffs as you see right now.
I'll not pick any choice, and that wiki has nothing to do with me. Whatever you do with this matter is yours to decide, not mine.
Also, you're misunderstanding something: FANDOM consists of millions of wikis, and this wiki is one of them. Each wiki has its own group of admins whose "tools'" scope is only the wiki they are selected as admins on. Thus, my right is not "global" and I possess no authority over any other wiki besides this one and cannot influence the actions of users with global rights.
I requested an interlanguage link (as you can see here ), however I got a confusing response from the user who linked the Wiki's, I contacted them about it and got no response, I tried linking some pages (such as Sonic's page) to the Croatian Wiki, but again, it just leaves a blank link, can you help out please?
Hi Luma, I recently had a conversation wi DeCool about linking this Wiki's pages to the new Croatian one, however we ran into some technical dificulties and the pages wouldn't be linked at all, and just leave a blank link on the bottom to a nonexistant article. He said he'd ask you about it, and I'm not sure if he did, but I decided to contact you as well. Do you know what the problem might be?
