Merna the Merhog is a character that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. She is an anthropomorphic merhog who lives in the grotto of Mertopia.
Appearance[]
Merna appears to look like any merhog. She is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with orange fur that covers the upper half of her face, her quills, and her ears, and light teal skin that covers her arms, muzzle, and insides of her ears. She also has three quills on the back of her head and has a yellow dress attaching to her mermaid tail with her yellow gloves and green latex in between her fingers, letting her be able to spread her fingers out freely. She also has blue eyes and red lipstick on her lips.

Season one[]
Living in the underwater grotto of Mertopia with several other merhogs, Merna's home became threatened by Captain John Paul Memo, who intended to turn the land into condos and mini-malls. Merna swam for several hours to reach Sonic and Tails, and requested their help upon finding them. They proceeded underwater and through the sea, with Merna directing Sonic to Memo's Octopus-Ship, which temporarily captured them before Merna summoned electric eels to shock it. When Sonic realized the ship had been hedgehog-proofed, Merna took Sonic and Tails back to Mertopia to get assistance from her people. There, they met the Queen of the Merhogs, just as Memo reached the grotto. There, Merna stayed behind with her queen as Sonic left to enact a plan.
Sonic soon after returned after tricking Dr. Robotnik into attacking Memo, and Merna declared Mertopia safe before the merhogs proceeded to have a pool party. However, the grotto was then ambushed by Robotnik and Memo, who had teamed up to conquer Mertopia. As the invasion began however, Merna declared that they had to "fight fish with fish," so she and Sonic summoned several sea creatures, including sharks and jellyfish, to attack their enemy's submarines. Their counterattack was successful, which ended with Mertopia being saved, Afterwards, Merna and Sonic kissed.

- The term "merhog" is a portmanteau of a mermaid and hedgehog.
- This could imply she is an anthropomorphic sea urchin, with "urchin" being a middle English term for "hedgehog" and the sea species being named after the land animal it resembles.[1]
