Merlina the Wizard[2] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by Archie Comics. She is the royal wizard[3] to the kingdom and King Arthur by which she is now a criminal of, from a distant Zone connected to In Another Time, In Another Place's reality.
Appearance[]
As she is written to mirror the Sonic and the Black Knightâs opening beat for beat, Merlina likely is a townsperson, a species that embody the spirit of the forest from Sonic and the Black Knight. Unlike other townspeople, Merlina's appearance resembles the form of a slender, human girl with fair complexion but she still seems relatively the same size as other townspeople next to Sonic the Hedgehog.
Merlina wears a golden tiara on her head, with her purple hair reaching down to hip-length, tied into a French braid with a golden ring at the end. She has large, blue eyes, and long, pointy ears like other townspeople. Her clothing is stylized as other townspeople but with unique colors; a blue underdress and a purple, wizard's robe, likely befitting of her status as the royal wizard, with golden and red patterns traced across.
In addition, Merlina wields a staff in hand, with a blue orb on the top decorated with golden, metal-like substance.
History[]
Past[]
For an unknown period of time, Merlina held the title of royal wizard to the kingdom. Nothing is known of her duties or tasks that her position entailed. Presumably, she served the Knights of the Round Table till circumstances led to her fleeing them.
Knight Time[]
For an unknown reason, Merlina incurred the wrath of the corrupted King Arthur, prompting her to be pursued by the tyrannical king. He cuts the sky, summoning his corrupted knights to attack her.[4]
As King Arthur was closing in, she summoned Sonic the Hedgehog from alternate Zone in order to fight King Arthur and his monstrous knights.
Sonic quickly understood why he was there, and proceed to wipe out the hostile knights. He continued his attack by charging at King Arthur but Merlina stopped him, and teleported the two of them away in a whirlwind of dust.
Personality[]
Given her limited time on panel, Merlina's personality is largely left out. She was apologetic to Sonic in summoning him to save her, to which he instantly brushes off the whole thing. It was out of desperation in the moment on her part. As Sonic quickly wiped out the surrounding Knights of the Underworld, she stopped him from attacking King Arthur himself, likely in an act to protect him, only then for her to retreat with the hero.
Powers and abilities[]
Merlina's physicals are unknown but she does possess fast reaction speed. She also possesses magic to escape from her enemies.
While she was being chased down moments before by King Arthur and his flying horse, she caught Sonic the Hedgehog while he ran passed her at high speed.[4]
Wielding magic, Merlina can use her staff to summon people from other dimensions through rituals to assist her. It is unknown whether she is limited to summoning Sonic or not. She can cast her staff to create a whirlwind to teleport herself and another out of King Arthur's reach.
