- Not to be confused with Merlina the Wizard.
Merlina is a scrapped character that is mentioned in the 1992 mini story bible for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (under the development name "Sonic and Friends"), who was originally planned to be part of the show's main cast alongside Sonic and Tails.
In the mini story bible, Merlina is described as a beautiful magic user who claims to be a descendant of Merlin the wizard.
Appearance[]
No known concept artwork of Merlina exists, and the nature of her species goes unmentioned in the mini story bible. The only known physical aspect of Merlina is that she is considered "Gorgeous".
Planned role[]
In the mini story bibles for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, it is stated Merlina would have teamed up with Sonic and Tails, traveling through Dimension-Door Rings from planet to planet liberating each world from the malicious control of Dr. Robotnik. Merlina would have primarily used magical spells as her form of offense, although the accuracy of said spells is described as "erratic".
In contrast to Sonic's quick and impulsive personality, Merlina would have had a more reserved personality, hating to be rushed on matters. This would lead to Sonic and Merlina getting into disagreements, despite both sharing a hatred for Robotnik. Merlina would also consider Tails as her "favorite person in the whole universe", due to the fox being constantly in awe of her magic, and viewing her as a big sister. As such, Tails would have acted as a third party in arguments between Merlina and Sonic, working to resolve them peacefully.
Trivia[]
- Sonic and the Black Knight would later introduce Merlina the Wizard, a similarly-named magic user who also claimed to be related to Merlin.
