The Mega Chopper[1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, piranha-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, and the counterpart of the Mega Chopper from an alternate dimension set in the recent past.

Despite the name, Mega Choppers are actually small red-colored, piranha-based Badnik with sharp teeth and silver caudal fins.

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Mega Choppers are enemies found in both Acts of Hydrocity Zone. In gameplay, they are swimming around in various underwater sections. If they spot the playable character however, they will head at full speed towards them. Unlike other enemies in the game however, Mega Choppers will not damage the playable character upon contact; instead, they will latch onto them and drain them of their Rings until the player runs out of them, resulting in them losing a life. In addition, when the playable character has a Mega Chopper attached to them, their speed will be reduced and will be unable to perform the Spin Jump, Spin Attack or Spin Dash; additionally, if Knuckles is on a wall and a Mega Chopper latches onto him, he will not be able to climb the wall or jump off.

To throw off the Mega Chopper, the player must quickly press left and right on Controlpadds.png. Alternatively, they can force their playable character into a Spin Attack by entering turquoise half-pipe slides. They can also let themself get damaged so the Mega Chopper will fall off. Mega Choppers can be destroyed by attacking them with a Spin Attack-related move. Doing so will release the Animals inside of them and award the player with 100 points.
