Megachopper-spr

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and its lock-on continuation Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Mega Choppers can be found swimming around or leaping up from below the floor in Hydrocity Zone. Unlike most Badniks, a Mega Chomper does not damage the player directly; instead, it latches onto the playable characters when they get close and drains them of their Rings at a steady rate until they are gone, resulting in death. In addition, as long as the Mega Chopper is attached, the character's speed is reduced and they will be unable to use the Spin Jump, Spin Attack and Spin Dash; additionally, if Knuckles is on a wall and a Mega Chopper latches onto him, he will not be able to climb the wall or jump off.

To throw off the Mega Chopper, one must quickly press left and right on Controlpadds. Alternatively, the player can force the playable character into a Spin Attack by entering winding tubes (in Act 1) or the turquoise half-pipe slides (in Act 2). One can also let themselves get damaged so the Mega Chopper will fall off. Otherwise, Mega Chopper can be defeated using the Spin Jump or Spin Attack before getting bitten or by having Invincibility.

Sonic Mania

MegaChopper Mania

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, the Mega Choppers appear as enemies. In terms of design, they look exactly like they did in their debut. In these games, they only appear in the underwater sections of Hydrocity Zone.

In gameplay, the Mega Choppers behave just like in their debut game: they latch onto the playable characters and drain them of their Rings until the characters either die or shake them off. Also, upon destroying a Mega Chopper, it will release an Animal.
