The mechanical fish[3] (メカフィッシュ[1] Meka fisshu?, lit. "Mecha fish") or Big Mecha fish (ビックメカフィッシュ[2] Bikku Meka fisshu?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, fish-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

Mechanical fish are large black bass-like robots with turquoise armor. Physical traits each unit possess include thick purple lips, a dorsal fin, two pelvic fins and one tailfin. Each fin appendage has a yellow membrane and a blue spine. Big Mecha fish shares the same apprearance albeit being larger in terms of size.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure

In Sonic Adventure, the Mechanical fish only appear in Big the Cat's version of Twinkle Park, Icecap and Emerald Coast. They also appear in various pools during Big's missions in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut. Notably, the Big Mecha fish is only found in Twinkle Park.[2]

Regular Mechanical fish usually weigh about between 600 - 1,600g,[1] while Big Mecha fish weigh between 800 - 2,000g.[2] Unlike other robot enemies in the game, mechanical fish cannot be destroyed, as the player's focus is on catching them by fishing. Catching a mechanical fish awards the player with points that depend on its weight.

Missions

The various missions that Big can find the mechanical fish include:

Mission Description Location Objective
14 I am the keeper of this hotel! Catch me if you can! Station Square, between the station entrance and underground parking lot. Fish for the mechanical fish in the hotel's pool.
29 I am the keeper of this canal! Catch me if you can! Station Square, garden to the right of Town Hall where there will be an egg-shaped stone. In the water way behind Twinkle Park elevator (just under where Tails can find the Jet Anklet), a mechanical fish swims. Fish for it.
35 I am the keeper of this icy lake! Catch me if you can! Mystic Ruins, In the caves leading to Mystic Ruins Garden, enter the caged Kiki cave, right behind the mound of dirt. Fish for the mechanical fish in the pool in the ice cave near the ladder to Icecap.
44 I am the keeper of this ship! Catch me if you can! Egg Carrier, port side stern of the ship (very corner of the Egg Carrier). Fish for mechanical fish in Eggman's swimming pool.
