The Mean Bean Coffee Café, formerly known as Karen's Coffee,[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a coffee shop in Green Hills owned by Agent Stone after he framed the previous owner for money laundering.[1] Stone would subsequently turn the café into his own command center, from where he would assist Dr. Robotnik following his return from the Mushroom Planet.

It features four dark store windows on the front with its products written on them and a recessed entrance with a double door. Hanging over the entrance is the shop's store sign. On the inside, the Mean Bean Coffee Café has stylish brown brick walls with dark brown wooden cover on the lower half, desks and chairs for the customers, ceiling lamps, a few wall pictures and potted plants, a front desk with a black chalk board on the wall behind it for showcasing the shop's products, and a backroom in the shop for making its products and cleaning its crockeries. History

Film series

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Several months after Dr. Robotnik's disappearance, Stone would work a night shift in the Mean Bean Coffee Café, serving the customers while missing Robotnik. When he suddenly received a message from Robotnik on his smartwatch however, Stone had all the customers take their leave and closed the café early. Afterwards, he used his technology in the café to sent new equipment to Robotnik via a pod from a satellite in orbit around Earth, before jubilantly proclaiming Robotnik's return. Awaiting Robotnik's arrival in the café, Stone prepared the doctor's favorite latte. When Robotnik finally arrived, Stone, though surprised by the doctor's look, joyfully gave the doctor his latte (which he noted could use some mushroom). Following the arrival of Knuckles as well, Stone got acquainted with the echidna before turning the café into a secret command center for Robotnik at the doctor's behest.

With the equipment, Stone and Robotnik intercepted a text message between Sonic and Tom Wachowski. Taking notice of Knuckles' lack of intelligence, Stone quietly asked Robotnik why they were working with an "imbecile" like him, to which Robotnik explained that he was using him to get the Master Emerald, an object with which Robotnik could use to get revenge on Sonic and realize all his ambitions. Soon after, Robotnik pinpointed Sonic's location in eastern Siberia, prompting him and Knuckles to head there while leaving Stone behind in the café.

The next day, Stone kept the Mean Bean Coffee Café closed while using its computers to browser for new outfits for Robotnik using Robotnik Control Gloves. Wade Whipple, however, got suspicious over the café's closure, prompting him to peak inside and see Stone at work, which made Wade intrude on Stone and handcuff him to a chair while he tried interrogating him for answers. However, Wade's good cop/bad cop routine failed to intimidate Stone. Not long after however, Robotnik teleported into the café in a new form, where he freed Stone and had Wade Stone's place, as their hostage. In the meantime, G.U.N. forces would surround the café, having discovered Robotnik's return. Heading outside the café, Robotnik used his newfound powers to built the Giant Eggman Robot. As Robotnik did this, Stone came out of the café and begged him to take him with him, prompting Robotnik to pick up Stone and insert him into his robot.

Karen's Coffee from before Agent Stone's takeover, from Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Official Movie Pre-Quill.

Originally run by Karen, Karen's Coffee began seeking a new barista at one point, a position of which Agent Stone eventually applied for. Despite Stone's impressive resume, all Karen cared about that he could produced enough coffee during rush hour. All the while, Stone was introduced to the less-than-stellar working conditions in the shop by how Karen and her assistant manager George treated the shop's employees. Furthermore, when trying out Stone's specialty, her response was spitting it back in Stone's face and ordering him to clean up his mess and go to work. While one of his coworkers advised Stone to learn to live under Karen's leadership, Stone assured him that he would own Karen's Coffee in a week.[1]

On his first day in Karen's Coffee on a Saturday, one of Stone's coworkers, Tina, got Stone to handle her shift for the weekend by telling him that she had family business to attend to when she just wanted to skip work. When Tina went AWOL on Monday due to Stone's machinations however, Stone was given Tina's job at the cash register. Knowing Stone was up to something, George threatened to take him down a few pegs if he stepped out of line. However, after Stone got rid of the George, he was given his job as well during the following Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, Stone got Karen arrested for money laundering, allowing him to take over Karen's Coffee, although he kept Brayden, the only coworker who did not cross him around for "convenient alliances." When Saturday then came around again, with the shop in working order, Stone announced his plan to rename Karen's Coffee and install some new equipment.[1]
