King Maxx Acorn, formerly known as Anti-Maximillian, or Evil Maximillian (born 3179),[note 1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is Maximillian Acorn's evil counterpart from Moebius, as well as the former king of Moebius, before being dethroned by Scourge the Hedgehog.
Appearance[]
History[]
King Maxx was a complete despot, who was dethroned and cast into the Moebian Zone of Silence by his daughter Alicia and her boyfriend Scourge. However, Anti-Max was able to not only survive, but thrive, bringing the entire Zone under his rule. This rule was not to last though, as the Zone Cops eventually came and arrested him, due to the threat he posed to other Zones.[1][2]
Stuck in Zone Jail, Maxx once again thrived, bringing the Moebians and other prisoners under his rule inside the jail. When Scourge ended up in Zone Jail (having ironically been dethroned himself shortly before), Maxx made a deal with the Sonic doppelganger: if Scourge did not attempt to threaten his rule, Maxx would keep his cronies from killing Scourge. Scourge, his speed removed due to the Control Collar and his quills cut short, had no choice, but to agree to the proposal.
At a later time however, Maxx believed Scourge to have violated their deal when he heard about the Destructix entering the jail and supporting Scourge. While initially complimentary of Scourge, bearing no apparent ill-will for his dethroning and even approving of Moebians taking new names to step out of Mobius' shadow, the former king's tone turned dark as he ordered his minions to kill Scourge, despite the green hedgehog's denial of involvement with the Destructix.
Fortunately for Scourge, the Destructix arrived just in time to save him, beating up Maxx's goons in the process. When Fiona stated that Scourge belonged to them and wasn't to be touched, the angered former king responded by telling them they had just signed their death warrants, which only earned a mocking response from Fiona.[2]
When the Destructix initiated their plan days later, causing an insane prison riot, Maxx met up with Jeffrey St. Croix, who took the initiative and stole the Destructix and Scourge's belongings from the Prisoner Processing area before Fiona could even get the chance to recover them. Having overheard Fiona, Jeffrey realized that the riot was part of their "plan" all along, and they had to have some means of escape. As Maxx planned future conquests, Jeffrey dug through the Destructix's things while making his own plans, though not without catching some of Maxx's attention somewhat. As Jeffrey tossed aside the Warp Ring, it expanded into a portal, much to their surprise. However, before they could use it, the Destructix burst in, beating the two to a pulp and taking back their possessions. It’s unknown what happened to Maxx after this, but it can be presumed that he was recaptured when the Zone Cops regained control of the prison.[3]
Personality[]
Like his counterpart on Mobius, Maxx can at times be cordial and welcoming, though usually with ulterior motives in mind. In truth he is scheming, manipulative and sadistic, and has no qualms about having the lives of others taken. He seems to have an aristocratic attitude, as he prefers to let his minions handle the dirty work associated with seeing his will carried out. Moreover, he greatly relishes conquest, as he enjoyed talking over the Zone of Silence and prepared to conquer the entire multiverse until he was stopped and arrested. He even enjoyed "carving out" his own territory in Zone Jail, and was excited to once again conquer Moebius.
