SLW Tails' Lab

Tails explaining that he can use materials to make various equipment, from the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World.

Materials[1] (マテリアル Materiaru?) are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. "Material" is a term used to describe substances native to Blaze's world and the Lost Hex which are useful in constructing naval vessels, RC Vehicles, buildings and other useful constructions.

Description[]

Materials come in several different types, where each type has different colors, compositions shapes. Each game features a set number of different Material types. The type of Material that the player can obtain in a game depends on the overall Stage, that the player plays through and completes.

In gameplay, Materials are used by the player to construct and/or upgrade various objects in the game. These objects constructed by Materials can either be game gimmicks needed to process with the game, additional gadgets that can be used in gameplay, or decorative objects for the game's hub world. Materials are automatically obtained by the player when they clear an act/Zone or defeat a boss in the game. The number of Materials that the player receives upon clearing the act/boss is based on the Rank; the better the Rank, the more Materials the player receives.

In Sonic Rush Adventure, Materials play a prominent role in the game. Here, Tails, with a book provided to him by Marine the Raccoon, learns of a technology that involves combining "metals and jewels" to create navy vessels and other constructions. It thus falls upon Sonic and Blaze to collect as many Materials as possible.

In this game, there are a total of nine different types of Materials. Over the course of the game, Materials are used by Tails to construct and upgrade four principal watercrafts which the player needs to traverse to the different islands in the world and thereby unlock new Stages. They are also used to build more complicated and advanced machinery, like the Magma Hurricane and radio antennae. The number of Materials that the player earns according to the Rank after clearing an act is listed in the chart below:

Rank No. of Materials earned
S Rank (Sonic Rush Adventure) 4 Materials
A Rank (Sonic Rush Adventure) 3 Materials
B Rank (Sonic Rush Adventure) 2 Materials
