The Master Emerald Compass is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a device that leads its user to the location of the Master Emerald. When implanted on a specific island near this location, an ancient temple would reveal itself, with the Master Emerald hidden inside.

Appearance[]
The compass is a small golden sphere surrounded by four rings with writing and seven small gems, their colors corresponding with the Chaos Emeralds. The rings are able to rotate freely around the sphere. When aligned together, the rings form a disk with an engraving of the Master Emerald on it.[1]
Features and abilities[]
The compass is capable of leading its wielder to the Master Emerald's resting place on Earth: the Labyrinth. In addition, when inserted into the recess on the isle near the Labyrinth, the compass can make the Labyrinth reveal itself from its hiding place underneath the Pacific Ocean.[1]

Ages ago, after the Master Emerald was hidden on Earth, the compass was hidden away within an giant owl temple in one of the Siberian mountains.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]
Years later, the compass was uncovered by Sonic and Tails when they managed to find the giant owl temple in the Siberian and Sonic solved the puzzle on the owl statue containing the compass. However, soon after, Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles arrived. Following a brief struggle, Sonic tried throwing Tails the compass, only for Robotnik to catch it instead.[1]
Using the compass, Robotnik and Knuckles were able to find the temple containing the Master Emerald on an island in the Pacific Ocean. There, Knuckles opened a pathway to the temple by placing the compass in a stone indentation hidden on the beach.[1]
