A fish with a spear-like snout. It is said to be the fastest swimmer of all time. You might even call it the Sonic of the sea.

— Fish-o-pedia description, Sonic Frontiers[1]

The marlin[2] (カジキマグロ[3][4] kajikimaguro?) is an animal that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a long-snouted fish that can be caught from fishing.

Description[]

Based on the real-life fish species with same name, the marlin is a big blue and white fish with a long snout. Originally, in Sonic Adventure, the marlin possessed a semi-realistic appearance with light blue skin and long, cyan dorsal fin.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the marlin is referred to as the hooked fish,[5] while Sonic Adventure: Navigation Guide lists it as the marlin tuna (カジキマグロ[3] kajiki maguro?) with an additional nickname of Marlin (カジキ[3] Kajiki?).

In the game, the marlin is one of fishes to be caught in Emerald Coast and is also one of three fish species in the game that are hidden in certain spots of the Action Stage. In this case, marlin can be found swimming inside the hidden chamber on the outskirts of the lighthouse island.[5] When catching one, the marlin is worth 800 to 1200 points.[3]

Sonic Frontiers[]

In Sonic Frontiers, the marlin is one of many collectable fishes to be earned in the Fishing Spot minigame hosted by Big the Cat. It is worth a varying amount of Treasure Tokens depending on its location: a marlin is worth 6 tokens in the Western Fishing Spot[2] and 48 tokens in the Southern Fishing Spot.[6]
