Mantis

Template:Character Mantis (マンティス, Mantis^?), renamed Hopper (ホッパー, Hopper^?) in Japan, is a grasshoper-like Badnik found in the Marble Garden Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It returns in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II in Sylvania Castle. Despite its name, this badnik looks and behaves more like a grasshopper than a mantis.

Description

Attack Pattern

Mantis is one of the least deadliest Badniks in the game. When the player comes near it, the Mantis simply jumps on the spot. When going at speed, it can jump right over the player, making it very easy to avoid. Mantis behaves the same way in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, although it is slightly less predictable.

A Grasshopper type robot which was also featured in "MARBLE GARDEN ZONE" in "Sonic 3". Since they can suddenly jump without notice, their moves are unpredictable. Be careful not to bump into them, or Sonic will lose rings.

Trivia

• This badnik appears to be based on (if not an upgrade of) the Bata-pyon badnik from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
• This Badnik also seems to share a resemblance to Slicer from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
