The Long Wind Jump[1] is a recurring move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It refers to a set of Mid-Air Trick Actions used for forward movements in midair.

Description[]

When performing the Long Wind Jump, the user performs an acrobatic maneuver (or attack) in midair that lets them increase their horizontal speed to gain distance. How this acrobatic maneuver is executed depends on the user.

In gameplay, the Long Wind Jump is useful for crossing larger areas when sent flying into the air or preserving the player's momentum when falling to the ground. In most cases, the Long Wind Jumps allow the playable characters to damage any foe in their flight path. Additionally, the move will not cancel the momentum received from the Boost Mode. Depending on the user, the Long Wind Jump may have other traits to it. However, the Long Wind Jump can only be pulled off after the user has been launched into midair by gimmicks like the Spring or Ramp.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Advance series[]

Sonic Advance 2[]

The Long Wind Jump maneuvers first appeared in Sonic Advance 2, alongside the other Mid-Air Trick Actions. In this game, the move can be pulled off by any playable character except for Super Sonic. To perform the Long Wind Jump in gameplay, the player must press right/left on Controlpadds and the R Button at the same time after being launched into midair by gimmicks. The direction the user heads in is determined by the direction pressed on Controlpadds.

Sonic Advance 3[]

In Sonic Advance 3, the Long Wind Jump maneuvers can be pulled off by any playable character except Knuckles the Echidna and Super Sonic. Due to the game's partner system however, the Long Wind Jump can only be used by the characters when they are paired up correctly. As such, Sonic must be paired up with Tails, and Amy must be paired up with Cream (or vice versa), in order for any of these characters to use the Long Wind Jump.

Like in Sonic Advance 2, the player must press the R Button after being launched into midair by gimmicks to use Long Wing Jump in gameplay. To launch the Long Wind Jump in a certain horizontal direction, press left/right on Controlpadds when pressing the R Button. Pressing the R Button without selection a direction launches the Long Wind Jump in the direction the playable character faces.

Sonic Rush series[]

Sonic Rush[]

In Sonic Rush, the Long Wind Jump maneuvers are a part of Sonic and Blaze's standard Trick Actions. While using them grant points, they do not fill the Tension Gauge. Additionally, these maneuvers can be executed while using the Fire Boost/Super Boost. To use the Long Wind Jump in gameplay, the player must press RBUTTONDSSNNdisco after being launched into midair by gimmicks. To launch the Long Wind Jump in a certain horizontal direction, press left/right on Controlpadds when pressing RBUTTONDSSNNdisco. Pressing RBUTTONDSSNNdisco without selection a direction launches the Long Wind Jump in the direction the user faces.

Sonic Rush Adventure[]

In Sonic Rush Adventure, the Long Wind Jump maneuvers can again only be pulled off by Sonic and Blaze. They also possess the same traits they had in Sonic Rush.

Like in Sonic Rush, press RBUTTONDSSNNdisco after being launched into midair by gimmicks to launch the Long Wind Jump, and to launch it in a certain horizontal direction, press left/right on Controlpadds when pressing RBUTTONDSSNNdisco. Like before, pressing RBUTTONDSSNNdisco without selection a direction sends the move in the direction the user faces.
