The Lightning Boost is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Lightning Boost's icon takes form of a sphere of yellow lightning which is similar to Electro Boost . In gameplay, this power-up becomes yellow aura of electricity that surrounds the user and leaves a trail in its wake.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Lightning Boost can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 .
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Lightning Boost by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Lightning Boost will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. The duration of the Lightning Boost is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Lightning Boost is in effect. However, the Lightning Boost will end prematurely if the user collides with an obstacle while using the Lightning Boost. In addition, any rival character who makes contact with the user while the Lightning Boost is in effect will take damage, causing them to lose Rings , stop for a moment and lose one of the randomly item they currently have. Similar to Chaos Charge , the Lightning Boost allows the user fly in the air while the Lightning Boost is activating.
The Lightning Boost can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8 and 14 respectively. For each upgrade, the Lightning Boost will last longer.
