The Lightning Bolt is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Lightning Bolt's icon takes the form of a purple lightning bolt that goes in a zig-zag pattern.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Lightning Bolt can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Chuck . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Lightning Bolt if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Lightning Bolt by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user tosses the Lightning Bolt that appear purple going in a zig-zag. It will be disabled when it wears off. If the rival character collides the Lightning Bolt, they will take damage that lose Rings and slow down momentarily. Similar to Lightning , the Lightning removes one random power-up in the rival character's inventory slots on the HUD. To avoid the Lightning Bolt, the playable character has to step out its lane or jump over it.
The Lightning Bolt can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6, 12 and 18 respectively. For level 6 and 12, there is a chance for the Lightning Bolt pickup two per once, not to be confused with similar upgrade to Shockwave . For level 18, however, the user will be guaranteed to obtain two Lightning Bolts.
