The Launch Base Zone is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is an uninhabited Zone on Angel Island which was once used by Dr. Eggman.

History[]

Origins and Eggman's occupation[]

The Launch Base Zone was apparently inhabited at some point before Dr. Eggman's arrival on Angel Island.[1] When the Death Egg crashed on Angel Island, Eggman used the Launch Base Zone as his base for repairs of the Death Egg and apparently messed with the Zone's systems. As the Death Egg was finished and took off Sonic and Tails came to the Launch Base Zone and boarded the Death Egg. Knuckles later passed through Launch Base Zone in pursuit of the Eggbot controlled by Dr. Julian Snively.[1][2]

Worlds Collide[]

In the altered reality caused by the second Genesis Wave, Tails had been dealt a bad injury during a previous adventure at the Launch Base Zone.[3]

The Dark Trilogy[]

Note: From the readers point of view, this picks up from where Launch Base's original timeline ended.

Shortly after the shattering of the world, Knuckles visited Relic the Pika, who was conducting research in the zone, as well as attempting to make contact with the surface of the planet.[4] A few days later, after still making little success, Relic attempted to sync up all the island's old systems, but that was met with failure as well. Fixit the Robot attempted to interface with the network, and, although he was unsuccessful, as he was not full compatible with the post-Eggman affected systems, he did note a strange energy reading from Mushroom Hill Zone that seemed alien to the island.[1]

Soon after, Team Dark arrived with a drone controlled by Dr. Snively in an attempt to secure the Master Emerald before Eclipse the Darkling could. They left their shuttle in Launch Base Zone, and Eclipse later attempted to get to the shuttle after obtaining the Master Emerald. Knuckles and Shadow successfully intercepted Eclipse and his Dark Arms, but after a quick scuffle, Knuckles was forced to shatter the emerald so that Eclipse could not escape with it. Still, Eclipse and his Dark Arms took the shuttle and fled empty handed.[5][6]
