The Laser Blaster's icon takes the form of a light blue targeting laser with blue rings around its endpoint. Furthermore, this endpoint has a holographic image of a red cube around it, which is surrounded by a bigger, yellow cube. When used, this power-up becomes an aerial shot that homes in on its target and creates a spherical blue explosion upon impact.
Overview[]
In gameplay, the Laser Blaster can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Gamma. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Laser Blaster if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Laser Blaster by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, this power-up lets the user deploy six energy shots from their position. Once deployed, these shots will fly into the air, from where they will target the opposing rival character(s) either in front or behind the user, before beginning to home in on them. When the shots mark the opponent(s) as a target, a light blue target reticle will appear over them. If these shots manage to hit the targeted rival character(s), the target(s) will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down for a few moments. To avoid the shots targeting them, the playable character has to step out of the lane they are on when the shots' blue target reticle appears, as it will not adjust to any changes in the playable character's position after appearing.
At its weakest, the Laser Blaster can only target two rival characters. However, the Laser Blaster can be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. When the user is upgraded to level 4 and 10, the Laser Blaster can target more rival characters during each usage of it, and when the user is upgraded to level 16, it will deal more damage.
Trivia[]
The Laser Blaster's icon is based on the holographic marked displayed over images when using the Laser Gun in Sonic Adventure. Also, the explosions this power-up creates are based on those produced by the Homing Missile Launch while the Laser Blaster is equipped in Sonic Adventure.
