— Description, Sonic Labyrinth[1]

Labyrinth of the Factory (工場のラビリンス[2] Kōjō no Rabirinsu?) is the third Zone in Sonic Labyrinth. Like other Zones in the game, the Labyrinth of the Factory consists of four acts, with the three first being standard Zones while the fourth one is devoted to the local boss.

Description[]

The Labyrinth of the Factory is an industrial maze with a modern-looking city in the background. The first Zone has a purple color scheme. The second Zone on the other hand has an orange color scheme while the third Zone has a blue color scheme. Finally, there is the fourth Zone, which has a purple color scheme as well.

Story[]

Having already gotten a couple of the Chaos Emeralds that he needs to remove the otherwise irremovable Slow Down Boots that he is currently wearing, Sonic arrives in the Labyrinth of the Factory. Because the Slow Down Boots have stripped him of his speed and agility however, Sonic has no choice but to rely on his Spin Dash to get around. Regardless, Sonic makes it to the end of the Labyrinth of the Factory. There, he takes on Needle Man, whom he destroys in battle. Upon the robot's destruction, the next Chaos Emerald is dropped. Sonic subsequently recovers the Chaos Emeralds and begins making his way towards the final labyrinth with his Spin Dash.

Gameplay[]

Like with all the Zones in Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic's objective in the majority of the Zones in the Labyrinth of the Factory is to collect three Keys and bring them to the goal within a certain time limit in order to advance to the next Zone.

The Labyrinth of the Factory includes a profusion of gimmicks, including glowing floors that slow Sonic almost to a halt, reaching the point where he can walk faster than he can while rolling on them. The main obstacle in this Zone are lightning bolts that are fired from mechanical devices in specific places. The Zone also features bumper-designed moving platforms that the player can ride across bottomless pits, which are posing a great danger in this Zone's acts since falling into one will make Sonic start the individual Zone over, to other areas. However, the player has to get off these platforms quickly in Zone 3-2 and 3-3, as they tend to instantly disappear when arriving at their destination. There are also flashing blue squares that can teleport Sonic other to sections of the Zones. Bumpers and flippers also return from Labyrinth of the Sky in Zone 3-2, where their purpose is to knock careless players into the bottomless pits.

Overview[]

Zone 3-1[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at one minute and thirty seconds.

Zone 3-2[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at two minutes. This Zone consists of many individual floors and puts much emphasis on moving platforms and teleportation squares for reaching the different areas.

Zone 3-3[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at one minute and thirty seconds.

Zone 3-4[]

In this Zone, there is no time limit. When beginning this Zone, the player has to go down a slope with a large amount of Rings to collect, damage-inducing fire pits, and swinging iron balls on chains along it. At the end, the player will enter a hole and pass through a chute that takes them to the boss fight with the Needle Man. After defeating it and reclaiming the Chaos Emerald, the player will automatically move into Labyrinth of the Castle Zone 4-1.

Boss[]

Main article: Needle Man
SLFactoryBoss

The Needle Man, from Sonic Labyrinth.

The boss of the Labyrinth of the Factory is the Needle Man, a robotic spike wall. When this boss battle begins, a flurry of miniaturized Needle Men fly through the arena before the real Needle Man reveals itself. This robot moves around with a large wall covered in spikes protecting its front. As it trudges around, the spikes on Needle Man's shield will be fired off one after another. In order to damage Needle Man, the player has to attack its rear, which is completely vulnerable. This boss takes ten hits to defeat.
