— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Labyrinth Zone boss is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a modified Egg Mobile created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the Sky Base Zone incident.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Labyrinth Zone boss is a submarine-based Egg Mobile that is identical in appearance to the Bridge Zone boss. Just like it, it is oval in shape and consists of a gray and black main capsule with a transparent window on its top. It also its two turrets on each side of its top and ventilation holes in the shape of stripes on the front. It also possesses three gray turbines for movement; two on its sides and one on its underside. Color-wise, it is mostly dark gray, with a yellow circle on its front and a black underside. It also has yellow and black hazard stripes on its sides.

Powers and abilities[]

Robotnik's submarine can, like all submarines, dive and move underwater. It can also attack by shooting energy balls from its turrets and fire homing torpedoes.

History[]

Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)[]

In the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Robotnik used this vehicle to attack Sonic underwater when he arrived at the end of Labyrinth Zone. In spite of Robotnik's efforts though, his vehicle got destroyed by Sonic in the end.

Battle[]

The Labyrinth Zone boss is the fourth boss of Sonic the Hedgehog. The player fights it at the end of Labyrinth Zone Act 3.

Boss guide[]

In Labyrinth Zone Act 3, after climbing some underwater blocks, the player will arrive in an empty arena with a bottomless pit in the center, a passage on the left and right side of the arena, and two holes in the right and left side of the ceiling. Dr. Robotnik will immediately after arrive from the bottomless pit in the center the boss arena in his vehicle, initiating the boss battle. Worth noting is that Sonic will have an unlimited supply of air for this underwater battle, so the player does not have to worry about Air Bubbles.

During the boss battle, Robotnik's strategy is to emerge from the spaces in the arena, launch an attack, and then retreat into the hole he emerge from. Out of the five spaces in the arena, Robotnik will emerge from the bottomless pit in the center, and the two holes in the ceiling. When Robotnik emerges, Spin Jump onto or into his vehicle to deal damage. However, the player must take care of Robotnik's attack patterns when he emerges into the arena. If Robotnik emerges from the central bottomless pit, he will shoot two small energy balls towards each corner of the boss arena. To avoid the energy balls, the easiest way is to jump toward the center of the boss arena at the right time and then return to where Sonic jumped. If Robotnik emerges from either of the holes in the ceiling however, he will send a torpedo with slight homing capabilities towards Sonic. Despite being able to track Sonic though, these torpedoes can be avoided by jumping. While these attacks are easily dodged though, good timing is necessary since Sonic's mobility is reduced underwater.

Once Robotnik has taken eight hits, he will be defeated and flee in his exploding Egg Mobile, allowing the player to open the metal cage and complete the Zone in doing so.
