Krudzu (later known as the Krudzu Hybrid Hydra) was a mechanical weed. It was a rapidly growing vine with numerous fly-trap-like mouths.

History

Creation

Antoine entangled in the Krudzu

A special team consisting of a SWATbot and a Burrobot created Krudzu, designing it to grow from seeds. It was tested on the South side of Robotropolis, and caused the site to collapse. Showing Dr. Ivo Robotnik the test result, the SWATbot was almost destroyed for breaking Robotnik's "No plants" rule. Then Robotnik saw that it was a Mechanical plant, that promptly tried to consume Crabmeat. The SWATbot explained that he had a Burrobot customized to spread krudzu seeds wherever he can roam. Burrobot planted seeds all over the Great Forest, with the intention of having Krudzu devour the Great Forest, and smother the Knothole Freedom Fighters. Almost immediately, Antoine D'Coolette discovered it, was wrapped in Krudzu vines, and had to be rescued by Sonic the Hedgehog. After Sonic, Rotor, and Princess Sally took Antoine to Knothole and removed the vines from Antoine, Tails mistook the Krudzu for dried cuttings, and watered them. Fearing the worst, everyone was surprised when the Krudzu burst into an electrical fire. Rotor examined the Krudzu and discovered that it was weak against water. Sally and Tails then pointed out the day's weather forecast which called for rain. Sure enough, the Krudzu all short-circuited during the storm. (StH: #1)

Attempted Recovery

By accident, Snively discovered a map of the Budding Circle, and took a squadron of Eggbots to dig up the site in case there were more seeds. He wanted to send some Robotnik's way, eating everything that Robotnik built, allowing Snively to take over. Antoine caused a commotion nearby, and Snively had to send the Eggbots to silence him (can't let Robotnik know of the mission, or the Eggbots). The Eggbots' destruction put an indefinite hold on Snively's agenda. No Krudzu seeds were discovered, and there is doubt that there ever were Krudzu seeds in the area. (SSS: #1)

Any trace of the experiments were likely nuked along with the rest of Robotropolis by Station Square. (StH: #110)

A Badnik Hybrid

The Krudzu later returned as the Krudzu Hybrid Hydra, an advancment of the Krudzu who could assimilate other Badniks to upgrade them and itself. It attached many Classic Badniks, Swatbots, and Combots to itself and fought Sonic and defeated him but was killed by Eggman who stated that he would be the one to kill Sonic.

The Hybrid survived as one small weed and came to Eggman in an attempt to help him defeat Sonic, Eggman attached it to Titan Metal Sonic creating a fusion of the two. Krudzu Titan Metal Sonic the attacked Team Fighters but was defeated and knocked into the ocean.

The Krudzu managed to escape and arrived on Albion, it reactivated Metal Knuckles and fused with it.

Trivia

• The Krudzu is deliberately based on kudzu, one of the greatest agricultural boners of all time. Kudzu was introduced to America from Japan as both a decoration and a means of preventing soil erosion. Inevitably, the kudzu growing went out of hand. Now, it is a weed that takes root deep in the ground, and grows like wildfire. It has been known to entangle cars, fences, and even small animals. Unlike Krudzu, kudzu is not mechanical, robs plants of water, doesn't eat other objects, and doesn't talk.
