— Knuckles the Echidna, "Where Have All The Sonics Gone?"

Knuckles the Echidna is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom series. He is an anthropomorphic echidna and Knuckles the Echidna's counterpart from an alternate dimension where Sonic never existed. A fitness celebrity, he is the owner of his own gym called "Knuckles' Upper-Body-Only Workout Center".

Knuckles is essentially a doppelganger of his Sonic Boom World counterpart. As such, he is a large anthropomorphic echidna (over a head taller than Sonic) with red fur that covers most of his body, peach skin on his muzzle, a white crescent-shaped patch of fur on his chest, and purple eyes. He has a rather large torso, broad shoulders and thick muscular arms, making him very top-heavy, and possesses long, if somewhat thin legs in comparison. He also has seven long dreadlock-like spines around the sides and back of his head and a medium-sized, tri-crooked tail.

For attire, Knuckles wears a pair of red and yellow shoes, designed with wrap-like markings, that have green cuffs and grey metal plates on top. He also wears gloves with knuckle-spikes on them, a gym branded tank top, and has white sports tape wrapped around his hands, the lower half of his arms and legs, and his biceps, making him similar to a Muay Thai boxer.

TV series

At some point in his life, Knuckles opened his own gym called "Knuckles' Upper-Body-Only Workout Center". Becoming a fitness celebrity, he made a few commercials for his gym.[1]

When Lord Eggman came into power on Seaside Island, Knuckles found it preposterous to overthrow him.[1]

Season two

Knuckles was eventually visited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Amy Rose and Sticks the Badger, who wanted Knuckles to join their team to help overthrow Lord Eggman. While Knuckles laughed at the idea, he agreed to join them should he lose to Sonic in a race. After Knuckles was swiftly beaten, he went with the team to Lord Eggman's Lair.[1]

At the lair, they would find opposition in Lord Eggman himself and his subordinate, Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic's supposed best friend and final recruit for the team. After defeating Eggman's Badniks, Tails joined the team after Sonic saved his life. Knuckles and the team subsequently defeated Lord Eggman for the very first time. Having decided to stay with the Rebellion, which now stood a chance of overthrowing Eggman with his help, Knuckles said goodbye to Sonic when he returned to his own dimension.[1]

Described as a goofball, Knuckles is a laid-back and somewhat dimwitted character. He is also quite egotistical due to his success (and possibly because he has had no Sonic to put him in his place). Being an even bigger muscle-head than his counterpart, Knuckles is highly confident in his abilities and loves to strike poses. He is similarly only willing to follow those who can prove themselves powerful and athletic. Even with all of his confidence however, he initially found it preposterous to consider doing such a thing like overthrowing Lord Eggman. Despite all else, Knuckles is honorable, has a good sense of justice and has proven to be very helpful in a fight.[1]

Powers and abilities

Like his Sonic Boom World counterpart, Knuckles possesses incredible superhuman strength acquired through sheer upper body workouts. He is also quite athletic.[1]

"Hey, you, with the scrawny little arms! Yeah, you! Think you have what it takes to be a beefcake like me? Then come on down to Knuckles' Upper-Body-Only Workout Center, 'cause nothing says cool like "mus-cools!""
