In the late-afternoon time at Green Hill Act 1, Knuckles challenges Classic Sonic in a race to the [[Goal Plate]]. During the race, the player must confront [[Badnik]]s ([[Moto Bug]]s, [[Buzz Bomber]]s and [[Buzzer]]s) and obstacles. In this Act, however, several Badniks are many times their normal size, which the player can use to their advantage; when [[Spin Attack]]ing their heads, the player leaps into the air. However, when Classic Sonic impacts these Badniks, they will become temporarily immobilized, rendering the player unable to use the aforementioned advantage until the Badniks recover. Parts of the course for this Challenge Act are the same as those in Green Hill Act 1. When the player crosses the Goal Plate before Knuckles, the player is ranked according to their time. |

Trivia
- This Challenge Act is the first Challenge Act to feature Knuckles the Echidna.
- A remixed version of "Super Sonic Racing" is the background music for this Challenge Act.
- This is one of the few instances in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series where the original zone was in the daytime, but a variation of the stage takes place during the late-afternoon. Other instances of this occasion occur in Splash Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Windy Hill Zone 2 (Wii U version) and Zone 3 (Nintendo 3DS version) of Sonic Lost World.
- If the player talks to Knuckles after finishing this challenge act as Classic Sonic, he will respond, "Man, if it weren't for that huge enemy, I wouldn't have lost."
