For the object in the Archie Comics, see Key to Babylon Garden (Archie).

The Key to Babylon Garden is an object that appears in Sonic Riders. Originating from the ancient Babylonians,[1] this relic has been passed down from generation to generation of Babylon Rogues. This relic has the ability to reveal the fabled Babylon Garden when powered by the seven Chaos Emeralds and control the inner workings of this sanctum.

Description[]

The Key to Babylon Garden is a light blue transparent cube, which is slightly larger than a regular fist, with ancient symbols and markings on the surface and constantly has a white glow within it.

The Key's primary function is pinpointing the location of Babylon Garden, reactivate it and raise it back into the sky after falling down in the forgotten past. To accomplish this feat, however, it requires the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds. Additionally, the Key has an unspecified degree of control over the inner workings of Babylon Garden. like remotely opening its front doors. Also, when in close proximity of the Magic Carpet, the Key can activate it.

History[]

Past[]

The true reason for the creation of the Key to Babylon Garden remains unclear, though it was one of the few things that remained in the possession of the ancient Babylonians after they scattered across the globe.[1] Following that, the Key to Babylon Garden would be passed down from one generation of Babylon Rogues in the Babylon clan to the next.

The stories about the Key to Babylon Garden being able to unveil Babylon Garden itself, endured the test of time, as the Babylon Rouges continued to believe that their ancestors had hidden the valuable Treasure of Babylon inside their homeland. However, the fact it required the seven Chaos Emeralds' power was required for this feat was apparently forgotten or left out.

Sonic Riders[]

In Sonic Riders, the Key to Babylon Garden had been passed on to Jet the Hawk, the leader of current the Babylon Rogues, by Jet's father, but he had no idea how to use it. However, Dr. Eggman, having discovered the Treasure of Babylon was advanced technology that he hoped he could use to conquer the world, wanted the Key to Babylon Garden for himself to claim this treasure for himself. Rather than stealing the key though, Eggman tricked the Babylon Rouges into working with him and uncover Babylon Garden for him, by telling them how the key could find Babylon Garden with the Chaos Emeralds.

To facilitate the acquisition of the Chaos Emeralds for the key, Eggman hosted the EX World Grand Prix, with the Emeralds as the price of admission and ultimate prize, which the Babylon Rogues had to win. Despite interference from Team Sonic, Jet won the Chaos Emeralds and used them in tandem with the Key to Babylon Garden to summon Babylon Garden. Eggman then stole the key from Jet and hurried to Babylon Garden to claim its treasure.

Holding Amy hostage, Eggman held Sonic at bay as he tried to use the Key to Babylon Garden on the front entrance. However, Sonic blew Eggman away with his Blue Star II and took back the key. Sonic then tried to give the key back to Jet, but Jet, having lost to Sonic in a race, saw this as an act of pity and refused. Regardless, Wave took the key back on behalf of Jet, who used it to open the path to Babylon Garden's center, where the Babylon Rogues and Team Sonic got attacked by the Babylon Guardian.

After beating the Babylon Guardian and uncovering the Treasure of Babylon, the Magic Carpet Extreme Gear, the Key to Babylon Garden automatically activated the Magic Carpet for the group to see.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Key to Babylon Garden was an ancient Babylonian artifact and originally a part of the ignition matrix of the Babylon Garden, the other being the Gravity Ring, which the Babylonians removed to prevent the garden from destroying Mobius after they crash-landed there.

The Key was uncovered by the Babylon Rogues, but lost it to the Battle Bird Armada who forced them to use it to reactivate Babylon Garden. However, the artifact was destroyed by Sonic before the ship could take off.
