The Kangaroo[1] is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a race of kangaroo Animals used for raising Chao.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure/Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut

The Kangaroo made its debut in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut. In gameplay, Kangaroos can alter the stats, appearance and personality of a Chao. These animals are found inside Badnik. Simply destroy the Badnik to release the Kangaroo inside, and then touch it to pick it up. When released, the Kangaroos have a green sphere around them, which disappears shortly afterwards. They are found in the following Action Stages:

Upon entering a Chao Garden with a Kangaroo, it will leave the playable character and run around the garden. The Kangaroo will sparkle if it has not given them to a Chao in the garden. Should the player give a Kangaroo to a Chao, the Chao will embrace it, attaining its appearance and behavior and raising its stats according to the Kangaroo's. The Kangaroo will then lose its sparkle and disappear shortly after.

In Sonic Advance, the Kangaroos appear as victims of Dr. Eggman, who used them as organic batteries for his Badniks. The Kangaroos can be found in Neo Green Hill Zone where they pop out of destroyed Badniks. Also, in the second Act of Neo Green Hill Zone and Angel Island Zone, the Elephants pop out of destroyed capsules.

Sonic Advance 2

In Sonic Advance 2, the Kangaroos appear as victims of Dr. Eggman, who used them as organic batteries for his Badniks. The Kangaroos can be found in Leaf Forest and Egg Utopia where they pop out of destroyed Badniks.

Sonic Pinball Party

In Sonic Pinball Party, the Kangaroos play a role in the game's Story mode. In this game, the Kangaroos were among the Animals that came to Casinopolis, only to get kidnapped by Dr. Eggman and turned into robotic slaves. To save the Kangaroos and his other Animal friends, Sonic entered the Egg Cup Tournament. Once Sonic completes the game's Story mode, a shot of a brown-furred Kangaroo leaving Casinopolis together with Sonic's friends and the other Animals is shown.

Sonic Rush

In Sonic Rush, the brown-furred Kangaroos appear as victims of Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega, who used them as organic batteries for their Badniks. The Kangaroos can be found in Water Palace where they pop out of destroyed Badniks.
