The Jumping Hammer Attack is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a variant of the Hammer Attack where Amy attacks with her Piko Piko Hammer while in mid-air.

Description[]

The Jumping Hammer Attack is similar to Spin Jump, but with a bigger attack range and able to attack enemies from further away. Unlike Spin Jump, the Jumping Hammer Attack allows attack enemies with spikes without taking damage.

When performed, Amy swings her Piko Piko Hammer while in midair. Unlike the Spin Jump, Amy doesn't bounce off enemies when they are hit with the attack. If the jump button is held down after the attack is performed, the Hammer Rush will be performed when Amy lands on the ground.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Origins Plus[]

In Sonic Origins Plus, the Jumping Hammer Attack is used by Amy Rose in all games and Super/Hyper Amy in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Amy can perform a Jumping Hammer Attack by pressing the jump button again in mid-jump. It slightly extends the range of her Spin Jump, and protects her from some enemies' dangerous spiky areas, such as the Caterkiller's body or the Death Egg Robot's arms. This allows her to defeat or damage these enemies much more easily.

To perform the Jumping Hammer Attack in gameplay, the player has to press B/Cross/A button while in mid-air.

Sonic Superstars[]

In Sonic Superstars, the Jumping Hammer Attack is used by Amy Rose. Unlike Sonic Origins Plus, this technique is performed in a regular Spin Jump and a Double Jump.
