Concept and creation
Jimmy's name pays homage to the now-deceased Polygon Jim, a member of the Sonic hacking community who was known for making a ROM hack of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game titled Motobug the Badnik in Sonic the Hedgehog where a Moto Bug is the playable character instead of Sonic. It was able to jump by extending its wheel, an ability which would be used by Jimmy during the Heavy Rider boss fight in Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus.[3]
Appearance
Jimmy is a regular-looking Motobug from Dr. Eggman's Badnik army. However, Jimmy possesses two distinguishing features: its large size for a Motobug and red rings around its pupils.
During the Phantom Egg boss fight, Jimmy was modified to resemble a bulky motorbike with long tail pipes and thick wheels.
In Sonic Mania Plus' Encore Mode, Jimmy's head is tinted brown instead of blue.
History
Sonic Mania

The Heavy Rider driving Jimmy while at Green Hill Zone with the other Hard Boiled Heavies, from Sonic Mania.
In Sonic Mania, sometime after coming to Green Hill Zone, the Heavy Rider acquired Jimmy as her steed. The Heavy Rider would subsequently ride Jimmy everywhere. After the Heavy Rider got defeated by Sonic and Tails in Lava Reef Zone though, Jimmy fled the scene.
Eventually, while Sonic and his crew fought the Phantom Egg, the Phantom Rider and Jimmy, now modified into a bulky motorcycle, were given the opportunity to fight the heroes when they got sent to their arena. However, they failed to defeat the trio.
Sonic Mania Plus
In Sonic Mania Plus, it was revealed that Jimmy got destroyed after his battle in Titanic Monarch Zone, its remains ending up on Angel Island along with the broken-down Phantom Heavies. However, Jimmy got revived after the Phantom King got his hands on the Phantom Ruby and used it to revive himself, Jimmy, and the broken-down Hard Boiled Heavies. Not long after, Jimmy and the Heavy Rider got reunited in Green Hill Zone. Afterward, the Heavy Rider would ride Jimmy everywhere as before. However, Jimmy ran away after Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray defeated it and the Heavy Rider in Lava Reef Zone.
Eventually, while Sonic's group fought the Phantom Egg, the Phantom Rider and Jimmy, now modified into a bulky motorcycle again, were given the opportunity to fight the heroes when they got sent to their arena. Like before, however, they failed to defeat the heroes.
Personality
Jimmy is shown to be rather wild and restless for a Motobug. Its eyes may also indicate a loony and chaotic nature. It is said to act like a raging bull.[2]
Powers and abilities
Jimmy has proven itself to be faster than the average Motobug from his time. It also possesses a telescopic wheel which it can use to make surprisingly high jumps.
