The Jellyfish Mecha[note 1] (クラゲメカ[1] Kuragemeka?, lit. "Jellyfish Mecha") is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, jellyfish-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Being Badniks that are based on jellyfish, the Jellyfish Mechas have a primarily pale blue body composed of an enlarged head and a body sprouting four spiked tentacles.

Overview[]

In Sonic Superstars, the Jellyfish Mecha appear as enemies in Lagoon City Zone, Press Factory Zone, and Golden Capital Zone. Frequently found in pairs or groups, a Jellyfish Mecha will float up and down in a set location, letting their tentacles trail behind. As the Jellyfish Mecha descends, they raise their tentacles to protect their head and vice versa when ascending. In order to destroy a Jellyfish Mecha, the player must Spin Jump on the part of their body that is not being covered by their spiked tentacles, as otherwise they will take damage. Like most Badniks in the game, a Jellyfish Mecha will release their Animal and award the player 100 points upon destruction.

IDW Knuckles Special - Jellyfish Mecha Destroyed

Trip destroying a Jellyfish Mecha stationed in Golden Capital Zone, from Sonic the Hedgehog: Knuckles' 30th Anniversary Special.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, at some point in the past shortly after the Northstar Islands incident, a Jellyfish Mecha would be destroyed by Trip when her and Knuckles were traveling through Golden Capital Zone, releasing the Flicky that was powering the Badnik in the process.[2]

Notes[]

  1. While not listed in any instruction manuals, the internal files of Sonic Superstars refer to this enemy as "JellyfishMecha."
