Sarianna's husband. He looks tough, unless his wife is around; then it's crystal clear who wears the pants. Keep this to yourself, but the other night Jari-Thure dreamed his wife was giving him the dickens, and sprung awake in terror, screaming, "I'm sorry, honey!" Tragically, this woke his wife, who was sleeping next to him, who then proceeded to give him the dickens.

— Directory, Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3)

Jari-Thure (ヤリ-スーレ Yari-Sūre?) is a character that appears in Sonic Unleashed. He is a human resident of Holoska, the son of Jari-Pekka and Ursule, the husband of Sarianna and father of Marketa.

On the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of the game, Jari-Thure is one the Gaia Temple guardians of Holoska's Gaia Temple.

History[]

Xbox 360/PlayStation 3[]

Jari-Thure was born as the son to Jari-Pekka and Ursule. At some point in his life, Jari-Thure met and married Sarianna, and the two of them had a daughter they named Marketa. At some point during his marriage, Jari-Thure dreamed that his wife was giving him the dickens, making him wake up in terror while screaming. Unfortunately, this woke Sarianna who then ironically gave him the dickens. At some other point in his marriage, Jari-Thure was shivering and went to take a bath, though Sarianna had unfortunately heated his bath water up to 140 degrees.

During the events of Sonic Unleashed, Jari-Thure met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they first arrived in Holoska, where he told Sonic that he had underestimated the climate of Holoska since he only wore gloves and remarked Holoska was the coldest place on earth. During the following night, Jari-Thure met Sonic the Werehog and Chip, where he noticed Sonic the Werehog's thick fur. Having been allowed to feel Sonic's fur, Jari-Thure complemented it as it fit perfectly with Holoska's climate.

Shortly after having met Sonic, Jari-Thure went out to Cool Edge to catch some fish. While fishing, Jari-Thure saw a blue blur zoom across the water. When he returned to his village afterwards, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again where he told them what he had seen, though he believed that it was just his imagination. Some time afterwards, while hiding from his wife, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip and heard they were heading for Chun-nan before he changed the subject and asked them nervously if they knew if Sarianna was in a good mood.

A while afterwards, Jari-Thure was cooking frozen meat soup for his family when he was asked by Sarianna of what they were going to eat. When Jari-Thure told her that they were having soup, however, Sarianna wanted smoked mohn. Jari-Thure tried to explain to Sarianna that he was already preparing the soup, but was told by Sarianna that he could have the soup, but she wanted smoked mohn, and he meekly complied. Shortly after, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again, who had seen his conversation with Sarianna, and tried to explain that his wife could seem hash sometimes, before asking Sonic if he could give him some advice from time to time.

Some time afterwards, Jari-Thure learned that Sonic and Chip were the ones restoring the planet following Dark Gaia's awakening and began talking about them to Sarianna and Marketa. Some days later, Jari-Thure came across Sonic and Chip again and heard that they were currently fixing the planet, which Jari-Thure found amazing. Jari-Thure then told Sonic and Chip that they should report to Professor Pickle as he thought he might be worried.

At some point afterwards, Jari-Thure was told by Sarianna to take a look in the back country as something seemed to be afoot there at night. Jari-Thure, however, did not dare go there out of fear for getting killed. Not long after, he met up with Sonic and Chip again and told them about Sarianna's unreasonable demand of him. After Sonic and Chip returned from Cool Edge, Jari-Thure meet them again and noticed that the Gaia Key they had found was interesting before hearing from Sonic and Chip about what it was and where they found it. After Sonic and Chip had restored Holoska's continent, Jari-Thure learned that their part of the planet was back to normal. Not long after, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again and told them what he had learned, before saying that he was sure it was thanks to them. Jari-Thure then offered them to celebrate this with some desert, but quickly withdrew his offer since Sarianna had put him on a strict diet.

With the planet coming back together, Jari-Thure intended to go shopping, planning to take the public sled. However, Sarianna refused to give Jari-Thure money to pay for the public sled, which escalated to a fierce argument between them. While arguing, Jari-Thure saw Sonic and Chip nearby and asked for Sonic's help. Sarianna, however, told Jari-Thure that he could pay for the public sled himself, but he insisted on not wasting the money meant for stuff for everyone on that. Sarianna, however, rebuked his statement, saying it was no excuse for begging for money off of her. Surprised and confused, Jari-Thure claimed that he was not begging and that he did not want to take his own sled as his face would freeze.

At some point afterwards, Jari-Thure was forced by Sarianna to buy her a new coat, claiming it was a win-win situation for everybody. Shortly after, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again and told them about what had happen, before remarking that the coat cost him more than his monthly allowance and that he could not see how it was win-win situation for him. Jari-Thure then told Sonic and Chip with determination that next time, he would put his foot down and give Sarianna a piece of his mind. Over the following period, Jari-Thure would ask Sonic and Chip whenever they came by of how they doing fixing the planet.

A while later, Jari-Thure heard from Sarianna that she had seen a Shamarian fortune teller on television before she offered to tell his future, which Jari-Thure allowed. As he heard Sarianna's fortune (which involved treasuring his family, work as hard as he could, become a better cook, do the laundry and giving his wife presents), Jari-Thure realized that she was giving him her personal wishing list rather than a fortune.

Some time later, Jari-Thure and Sarianna went out fishing. While out fishing, however, Sarianna demanded of Jari-Thure that he had to catch a whale before they could go home. Despite finding it an crazy demand, he was too scared of Sarianna to disagree. In the end, Jari-Thure ended up with a cold before they went back. A few days later, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again and told them of his experience.

Over time, Jari-Thure's cold only got worse. Eventually, while clearing out snow upon orders from Sarianna, Jari-Thure got so sick after having worked all night that he collapsed from a very high fever and was first found in the morning by Sarianna. With Sarianna taking care of him, however, Jari-Thure soon recovered. After that, Jari-Thure and Sarianna met Sonic and Chip again, where Jari-Thure explained to them about what had happen and how Sarianna had nursed him back to health. After then hearing Sarianna say that they could not live without him, Jari-Thure proclaimed to Sonic and Chip that this was a sign of his wife's love. No sooner, however, Jari-Thure was shocked to hear from Sarianna that she only meant it in the sense that she needed him to do all the chores at home (not admitting she was worried about him).

Sometime after his talk with Sarianna, Jari-Thure encountered Sonic and Chip again, where he told them that he had a lack of self-confidence lately before asking Sonic if he thought that Sarianna loved him. After hearing Sonic's response, Jari-Thure regained his confidence and proclaimed that his wife had a gentle side and that he loved her.

Jari-Thure later watched on in horror with the rest of his village as Dark Gaia began to cast the world into darkness while maturing into Perfect Dark Gaia, but rejoiced as the world returned to normal following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus.

Wii/PlayStation 2[]

At some point during the events of Sonic Unleashed, Jari-Thure became possessed by Dark Gaia's Minions, which caused Jari-Thure to be consumed by self-pity at nighttime, though he would return to normal during the day.

During the events of Sonic Unleashed, following the earth's shattering caused by Dark Gaia's awakening, Jari-Thure was told about spooky happenings around the Sacred Shrine by Sarianna. Before his wife could sent him off to investigate, however, Jari-Thure ran off into hiding, not wanting to look into them. While hiding, Jari-Thure met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they first arrived in Holoska, where he welcomed them to Holoska and remarked that visitors here were rare. As Sonic and Chip then asked him why he was hiding, Jari-Thure tried to claim that he was not hiding, though he requested of them not to tell Sarianna where he was. Regardless, when Jari-Thure met up with Sonic and Chip again some time afterwards, he explained to the duo that he was in the doghouse with Sarianna again and that he would laugh if he was not ready to cry.

A while later, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again during the night. However, due to the influence of Dark Gaia's Minions, Jari-Thure told Sonic and Chip that he did not feel like doing anything anymore, and that he just knew that Sarianna thought he was a good-for-nothing. Shortly after, as Jari-Thure wallowed in self pity, he met Sonic and Chip again who asked him if he knew anything about the Moon Tablet, and told them that if they would listen to his troubles, he might have something like that for them. Jari-Thure then explained about how his wife had been calling him a chicken for no looking into the spooky happenings around the shrine, before calling himself a failure as a Temple Guardian for letting everyone down. Jari-Thure then asked Sonic and Chip if they thought he was a chicken as well, but was called an upstanding man by them instead, which allowed Jari-Thure to regain his self-confidence and overcame the influence of Dark Gaia's Minions. Feeling much better, Jari-Thure thanked Sonic and Chip and gave them the Moon Tablet before telling them that he gave them the Moon Tablet because he did not have confidence in himself, before telling them not to let him down.

Some time later, Jari-Thure met Sonic and Chip again, who told him of what had been going on at the Sacred Shrine. Upon hearing this, Jari-Thure asked Sonic and Chip of how people were expecting him to take care of that, but calmed down and told them that just because they were superheroes, it did not mean anything was wrong with him.

Personality[]

While Jari-Thure usually acts tough and is the one that mostly takes care of his family, he is very much at the mercy of his wife, who is always commanding him around. While he tries to take a stand against his wife, he is too much afraid of making her mad. Despite this, Jari-Thure knows her gentle side and loves his wife dearly.
