Infinite in Sonic Forces is a series of boss fights in which both Sonic the Hedgehog and the Avatar have to face against. He is fought three times throughout the game.

Still thrashing around, I see, you filthy little sewer rat.

Infinite, Sonic Forces

In Mystic Jungle, Infinite serves as the second boss in Sonic Forces. He is fought in Mystic Jungle's "VS. Infinite" stage, which is the ninth stage in Sonic Forces, and the fifth stage in the game to be played as Sonic.

Boss guide[]

The fight begins with Sonic landing on a snake and running along it with Infinite hovering before Sonic. This boss requires the player to catch up with Infinite by collecting White Wisp Wisp Capsules, boosting up to him and then landing a Homing Attack on him. During the fight, Infinite will make energy barriers made of cubes that appear on the path. Should Sonic touch these barriers, he will not only take damage, but also be cast into a virtual reality for a while, where spikes protrude and real iron balls roll along the path Sonic runs on.

After hitting him, Infinite will change up his pattern for the energy barriers he places, and the player must repeat the process two more times. Afterwards, he will create Phantom Copies of himself, and Sonic will jump off the snake and bounce off Springs to reach them, then skip across the Phantom Copies with continuous Homing Attacks to hit him again. Once again, Sonic will be running on the snake chasing Infinite. After he is down to half health, Infinite will produce energy barriers which come at Sonic from the side. Jump to avoid them, then do another Homing Attack on Infinite when Sonic gets close enough.

When Infinite is down to his last segment of health, he will do the same strategy of creating Phantom Copies as Sonic bounces in the air from Springs, only this time he will produce even more Phantom Copies. Continue to do Homing Attacks on the Phantom Copies until Sonic reaches Infinite, dealing the final hit and ending the fight.

You must be a straggler who got left behind. The strong will always vanquish the weak. You have only your own frailty to blame.

Infinite, Sonic Forces

In Metropolis, Infinite serves as the fourth boss in Sonic Forces. He is fought in Metropolis's "VS. Infinite" stage, which is the seventeenth stage in Sonic Forces, and the sixth stage in the game to be played as the Avatar.

Boss guide[]

The battle starts out with Infinite floating above the Avatar in the foreground, certain Wispon-like Lighting and Cube can be used to damage him. When Infinite's cube-based homing shots are fired, do not be afraid of them. When they get close enough, simply run under them. Jump only when the homing shots are completely on the ground. During the second phase of this boss fight, the homing shots will appear more frequently, Egg Pawns will start blocking the player's path as they step into the foreground from their spawn points in the background, and Infinite will move to the background preventing the Avatar from doing damage prematurely.

When cube particles appear on the ground, move away from them. After a second or two, Infinite will create a wall of cubes where those particles are. Infinite will do this a total of three times in succession, though only after his health is reduced to 50%. Upon reducing Infinite's health down to 50%, the second phase will begin with a scene where Infinite proceeds to have his visible eye convulse and then proceed to power up before summoning various Egg Pawns. During the second phase, the period between the walls' emergence will be smaller, meaning the player will see particles on the ground while they are stuck between two walls. Once the walls surrounding the Avatar are gone, move immediately to the left or the right. The Egg Pawns can be destroyed for additional points, but sometimes they will fall victim to Infinite's attacks and be sucked into them, but more will spawn in their places.

If the player happens to get hit by Infinite's walls or homing shot during this boss fight, they will be placed in one of two virtual realities. If the player is placed in the virtual reality where there are cannons appearing on both the ground and ceiling, the player has to keep moving to avoid the shots. With some parts of the screen beings obscured, it will be difficult to see where the cannon shots are going. Just keep in mind that each cannon fires one shot in the Avatar's direction, so once the first shot is made, start moving. If the player is placed in the virtual reality where there are missiles behind the Avatar in the background, move away from the first set that is aiming towards the screen. Once they fire again, move to the area where a missile has just been fired.

After dodging Infinite's attacks for a bit, he will dash at the Avatar afterwards, which if dodged will leave him vulnerable for a few seconds. The Burst Wispon is the best one to use, as it deals more damage than any other, allowing the Avatar to defeat Infinite in under a minute.

With all of this in mind, this boss should just be rinse and repeat.

Eggman Empire Fortress[]

Perish along with your useless friends!

Infinite, Sonic Forces

At the Eggman Empire Fortress, Infinite serves as the sixth and penultimate boss in Sonic Forces. He is fought in the Eggman Empire Fortress's "VS. Infinite" stage, which is the twenty-seventh stage in Sonic Forces, and the tenth and final stage in the game to be played as Sonic.

Boss guide[]

When beginning the boss fight, start by running towards Infinite. Soon enough, he will perform an attack in which he creates several energy cubes, which will turn into spinning crosses that block the player's path. The player should be able to merely boost past all of them, or dodge them using Quick Step. Once Sonic is past this attack, boost towards Infinite as he spawns Moto Bugs and Egg Pawns around him; merely perform the Homing Attacks on the Badniks to clear them out and land then three more Homing Attacks on Infinite. After this, repeat this pattern once more to progress to the second phase.

For the second phase, the player will have the Avatar to assist them, like in the Tag Team stages. During the second phase, Infinite's attack with his spinning crosses are doubled, with the crosses now intersecting. But similar to the first phase, the player merely has to boost in-between them, jump over them, or dodge them with Quick Step.

Infinite also introduces a new attack in this phase, where he charges up a spin, before doing the V. Maximum Overdrive Attack at Sonic and the Avatar. While this attack is easily avoided with a simple Quick Step, it is better to counter it with a fully-charged Drill Wispon or the Cube Wispon's air attack to deal massive damage to Infinite and cancel the attack. Sometimes, in this phase, Infinite does not have Moto Bugs and Egg Pawns surrounding him, and simply floats in front of Sonic and the Avatar. Boost towards Infinite and perform up to three Homing Attacks on him.

If the player happens to be hit by Infinite's crosses or Maximum Overdrive, they will be temporarily placed in one of two virtual realities. If the player ends up in the virtual reality where there are vertical lasers perpendicular to the ground, move forward, but at a steady pace, and be aware of the lasers that pop out of the ground. Simply jump over them to avoid being hit. If the player ends up in the virtual reality with spinning lasers, move forward at a steady pace, and try to Quick Step to move in the opposite direction of the spinning laser to avoid it.

During this boss battle, keep two things in mind: do not stall in place for too long, and do not take too long to clear the boss fight. If the player stands in place, they will notice a wave of energy cubes closing in on Sonic and the Avatar. If the player is caught in the wave, they will take damage. If the player takes too long to finish this boss fight on the other hand, they will eventually run into a dead end where Infinite immediately flies up and lets his cube wave close in on Sonic and the Avatar, thus making the player restart from the beginning on the phase.

Once he is at a low enough health, the player can perform a Double Boost to finish off Infinite.

Trivia[]

  • A cover of "Infinite" plays during the first two battles against Infinite, while the third song has an ominous orchestral mix playing in the background (save for when Sonic and the Avatar are charging their Double Boost, in which case bars from "Fist Bump" play as a result).
  • The second boss fight against Infinite was released as a trailer before the release of Sonic Forces. Similar to the gameplay trailer for Virtual Reality later on, it has absolutely no dialogue, which was most likely done to avoid giving away any spoilers.
  • The third boss fight against Infinite plays out quite similarly to the previous Metal Sonic boss fight that is fought before him.
  • The time limit for the player to defeat Infinite before the end of his Eggman Empire Fortress's boss fight is until "Battle with Infinite - Showdown" ends.
