The Ifrit is a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a massive fire elemental from the Chaotic Inferno Zone with incredible powers and malevolent intent.

The Ifrit originated from the Chaotic Inferno Zone, with its existence eventually being discovered by Gerald Robotnik. Upon learning of the creature, Dr. Eggman Nega set out to harness its power for his own use. His plan involved collecting the Chaos Emeralds and several Chao, but was fortunately thwarted by an alliance of heroes that included Sonic and Silver the Hedgehog. The Ifrit was defeated and apparently trapped back in its own dimension.[1][2]

A Genesis Portal later allowed the Ifrit to travel to Sonic's World in Blue Coast, where it interrupted a battle between Sonic and a force of Egg SWATs commanded by Dr. Eggman. Eggman quickly fled while Ifrit destroyed the Egg SWATs, forcing Sonic to confront it. He was unexpectedly joined by his old ally Silver, who traveled from the future to investigate the threat posed by the Genesis Portals. The two managed to drive Ifrit back through the portal from which it had emerged, and then closed it behind the creature.[2]

Powers and abilities

The Ifrit commands incredible power, being capable of flight and unleashing fiery blasts. It also displayed the ability to control other beings by binding their soul. He is also quite durable, capable of resisting Sonic's normal Spin Attack and laser fire from Egg SWATs.

  • The Ifrit shares much in common with Iblis; both are fiery elemental beings from Middle-Eastern lore that rein destruction upon apocalyptic settings.
    • Since the Time Eater is commonly associated to be leftover matter of Mephiles following the events of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), some fans speculate that the Ifrit may also be the remains of Iblis.
