— Iblis' puppet, "The Flames of Disaster"

Iblis,[3] also known as the Fire Demon,[4][note 1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. He is a mysterious demonic being that possessed the power of The Flames of Disaster, but was ultimately confronted and defeated by Knuckles the Echidna, who then took the power for himself.[2]

Although the actual Iblis never made an appearance throughout the franchise, an exaggerated puppet version of him appears during Pachacamac's re-telling of Knuckles' life in rock concert form, while a painting rendition of his head also appears during the same sequence.[2]

Appearance[]

In his puppet depiction, Iblis is a gigantic magma creature with red eyes, curved horns at each side of his head and one at the top, a zig-zagged mouth, and three pointy fingers. It's unknown how accurate the appearance is.

On his profile seen on the spinning card, he has a more cartoony appearance. He also has a lighter shade of gray, green eyes with black cat-like pupils which arent seen on his puppet design.

History[]

Past[]

At some point prior to the Master Emerald incident, Iblis was located and confronted by a young Knuckles the Echidna, who wished to harness the demon's Flames of Disaster to avenge his late father. Despite Knuckles' endurance, Iblis handily defeated the echidna with his magical fireball attacks, and began to mock him for his weakness, before attempting to finish him off with a bolt of lightning. However, in his turmoil, Knuckles learned that his true power as a warrior came from within, and through that revelation was able to steal The Flames of Disaster from Iblis, and defeat the creature with his own power.[2]

Although the ultimate fate of the demon following this incident is unknown, he was presumably either killed or greatly incapacitated by Knuckles.

Personality[]

Not much is known about Iblis' personality, though the musical portrays him as quite violent and thinking lowly of those he deems weaker than him, such as Knuckles. His "Unskilled, untrained, so unworthy!" taunt calls back to Knuckles' own comment to Sonic during their first meeting in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, seemingly inspiring Knuckles to think of those who are weaker than him in a similar way.

His musical depiction is comedic in tone, showing a very human personality and an admiration for "Facebook Marketplace" which may not be accurate to his true nature.
