Synopsis[]
In Starline Base Sigma, Kit is redirecting all the power into the base to Surge via a power wire in her mouth. So much power is used that the breaker is overloaded and the base switches to emergency power. Surge is content with her power and tells Kit to get ready for a fight with Sonic. Nervous, Kit suggests to run or hide, but Surge refuses and states this is their final stand against Sonic. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails follow Surge's energy reading to Starline's base. They carefully approach the entrance, when suddenly Metal Sonic attacks Sonic from behind and drags him into the base. Tails cries out to him, then hears Dr. Eggman behind him, telling him to come back. He turns to see the doctor is on his Eggwalker and with a hoard of Egg Pawns. Eggman notices Tails and assumes he is with Sonic. The two run into the base where Metal Sonic and Sonic are duking it out. Tails joins in to help Sonic in the fight.
Earlier, Eggman got left behind by Tails in the base. While looking for a shortcut, he sees Dr. Starline has changed the base's floor plan and he switches to following the Dynamo Cage's exact location. Eggman sees it is on top of him and shoots his blaster at Surge, who barely dodges it while laying on a rafter. Surge jumps on the Eggwalker, but Eggman throws her off by her hair before she can land a hit. Eggman orders his Egg Pawns to attack her, but Surge easily eliminates them by using the Pink wisp power. Surge gloats at Eggman for thinking that would stop her, but Eggman explains that was just to buy time. Eggman then launches a barrage of missiles at Surge, but she dodges them and gets under the Eggwalker. Eggman launches the boosters to burn Surge, but she pulls a fast one and uses the Cyan wisp power to cut a leg off the Eggwalker. Eggman tumbles out and Surge takes the Chaos Drive from the walker, demanding more power. Eggman starts entering a code on an access panel, then gloats to Surge he is escaping via an escape hatch. It doesn't open, and a per-recorded message from Starline plays saying he changed the access codes. A scared Eggman sweats as a powered-up Surge approaches him.
While fighting Sonic and Tails, Metal hears Eggman cry out and runs off to his aid. Tails is concerned Surge has discovered them, but Sonic says they have to go and the duo follow Metal. Eggman tries to bargain with Surge, but she is only interested in taking him out. Metal then arrives and Surge stops him dead in his tracks. Eggman then kicks Surge off of him. She lands on her feet and skids back, gloating she has taken out Metal and many other Eggman robots before. Sonic stops her skid and Surge is surprised to see him. Eggman dares her to gloat again and Sonic pleads for her not to make things harder then they have to be. Surge then retreats into the rafters, mortified at the thought of Sonic and Eggman are working together. She sits in a fetal position and thinks no matter how strong she is, Sonic and Eggman will find another way to hurt her and Kit. Surge eventually makes it back to where Kit is hiding. She quietly doubts herself as Kit come to her aid. Surge tells Eggman and Sonic are working together and the plan has to work. Kit says he locked down all other routes in the base and "they have nowhere else to go."
Back with the other two partners, Sonic demands and explanation for why Eggman is here. Eggman says he is here to reclaim his Dynamo Cage. Sonic and Tails talk in private for a moment, with them agreeing fighting both Surge and Metal would be a major risk. Sonic says Surge is the bigger enemy right now and he can destroy they Dynamo Cage during their fight. Sonic proposes to help Eggman against Surge, as long as they don't double cross them. The suggestion causes Eggman to spit out some water he was drinking, but he agrees to a truce seeing their support as useful. The Miles Electric shows there is only one open path for them, and Sonic recognizes it as a trap. They walk along the path anyway. Sonic is concerned Surge is following them, to which Eggman says she will likely go after them first and he and Metal won't help if that happens.
They soon stumble into a lab alight only by some cryogenic tubes. Tails looks over papers describing Operation: Remaster, concluding Starline was watching their lives in order to create Surge and Kit. Sonic realizes Surge and Kit are creations of Starline, to which Eggman reaffirms and says Starline was successful with his venture. Sonic implies Eggman is impressed by the work, and Eggman admits it and praises his former assistant’s intellect. Tails is disgusted horrified by the brainwashing and kidnapping Starline did to achieve it and blames Eggman for it happening, saying all he only had to do was recognize the former’s achievements while he was alive for none of this to happen. Eggman admits this, but says he would never do it. He then says admitting the skill of Starline after his demise only improves his own brilliance. Sonic says he's heard enough and walks into another chamber.
Sonic calls out and says he knows Surge and Kit are watching them. The two imposters reluctantly come out from the shadows. Sonic offers them to hand over the Dynamo Cage and they will leave. Surge and Kit look at each other, then get into a battle stance, with Surge saying it's not up to him. Sonic, Tails, and Metal Sonic then start their battle with Surge and Kit, with Eggman watching from the sidelines.

Trivia[]
- Dr. Starline's schematics for Surge and Kit are taken from the character's concept art.
- Near the beginning where Dr. Eggman met and followed Tails to find Sonic and Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman was piloting the Eggwalker, which first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2.
- When Sonic and Metal surround Surge, the panel with Metal Sonic and Eggman bares a striking resemblance to the scene in the Sonic OVA where Dr. Robotnik introduces Hyper Metal Sonic to Sonic.[4]
- When Surge and Kit are about to attack, Surge does a stance that is similar to Vegeta's from Dragon Ball Z.

Quotes[]
- Kitsunami: W-we could run, or hide...
- Surge: No. This is where it ends. It's their fault that we're here, and we're going to make them pay for it.
- Eggman: Well, this has been fun, but I've got a strategically placed escape hatch to catch! Ta-Ta!
- Starline: (in a recording) Hello, doctor...you found my secret message! How exhilarating! I prepared this just for you.
- Eggman: Wh-Starline?!
- Starline: I'm afraid your little "cheat codes" weren't as well hidden as you thought. This is my base, and I'll be making the rules. Your move!
- Tails: Judging by my map, there's only one may that's open for us to go.
- Sonic: Ooh, a trap! Sounds like fun.
- Tails: Does it?
- Eggman: If I'd known you were enjoying them, I wouldn't have made so many.
- Tails: All he wanted was for you to recognize him...if you'd just told him what while he was alive, none of this would have happened!
- Eggman: I know that! But I would never do such a thing.
- Tails: You just did!
- Eggman: Not at all. Admitting the skill of a bested enemy only proves my brilliance.
