"I'm Here"[1] is the main theme in Sonic Frontiers. It was composed by Tomoya Ohtani and features vocals by Merry Kirk-Holmes of To Octavia.

The theme itself does not include the lyrics up to the first pre-chorus in-game, but the song's piano intro is heard at the game's title screen. A "re-edit" version of the song was also used for the battle with Supreme, with an instrumental track present during the first phase of the battle and the main vocal track heard during its second phase.

While a small glimpse of the track was first heard during the 28 June 2022 Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase,[3] and later in the Japanese TV spot that also played prior to Japanese screenings of Sonic the Hedgehog 2,[4][5] the track was officially teased by official Sonic the Hedgehog social media accounts on 8 September 2022.[6][7] On 12 September 2022, the short version of the song, along with additional "Theme of Starfall Islands", track were made available through the EP Sonic Frontiers - Main Theme EP.[8] The full version was released on 7 December 2022, as part of the Sonic Frontiers Original Soundtrack Stillness & Motion.[9]

With the release of The Final Horizon update for the game on 28 September 2023, the song was remixed with a remastered instrumental and new vocals sung by Kellin Quinn, who did the vocals for the other three Titan bosses in the game. The new rendition, named "I'm Here - Revisited", plays during the second phase of the revamped The End boss, with an instrumental orchestral version playing during the first phase. Unlike the previous version, this rendition includes the opening lyrics in-game. The song featured as part of Sonic Frontiers Expansion Soundtrack Paths Revisited, which released 2 October 2023.[10]

Lyrics[]

Follow me
I'm standing on the border of everything
Listen close
Can you hear the spirits sing
Lost messages of long ago?
Leave the life you knew before
See a new world worth fighting for
Find the truth of who I'm meant to become
Another path I must now walk on
I'm here
Reaching far across these new frontiers
With my life I fight this fear
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons
Come with me
We'll travel through the trials and tragedy
Blessed and bleak
Can you hear the spirits shout
The secrets in their melodies?
Dream
Explore the mysteries
Breathe
A new life is revealed to me
Once again we'll start our story anew
Don't be afraid I will be with you
I'm here
Reaching far across these new frontiers
With my life I fight this fear
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons
Standing here
The way ahead's becoming clear
All across these new frontiers
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons

Follow me
I'm standing on the border of everything
Listen close
Can you hear the spirits sing
Lost messages of long ago? (Long ago)
(GO!)
(GO! HEY!)
Leave the life you knew before
See a new world worth fighting for
Find the truth of who I'm meant to become
Another path I must now walk on
I'm here
Reaching far across these new frontiers
With my life I fight this fear
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons
Come with me
We'll travel through the trials and tragedy
Blessed and bleak
Can you hear the spirits shout
The secrets in their melodies? (Their melodies?)
Dream
Explore the mysteries
Breathe
A new life is revealed to me
Once again we'll start our story anew
Don't be afraid I will be with you
I'm here
Reaching far across these new frontiers
With my life I fight this fear
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons
(Woah! Woah! Woah! Woah! Woah!)
Standing here (standing here)
The way ahead's becoming clear
All across these new frontiers
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons

Difference between the original and Revisited[]

  • The Revisited version has vocals by Kellin Quinn, along with additional background vocals, including screaming between verses and during the guitar solo.
  • The piano playing at the beginning of the song is replaced by a guitar and heavy electronic piano. The second piano melody is also replaced.
  • The guitar solo near the end of the song is more intense.

Connections to the Sonic series[]

  • I'm standing on the border of everything - Sonic's unstable state between Cyber Space and reality.
  • Can you hear the spirits sing/Lost messages of long ago? - The memories of the Ancients.
  • Leave the life you knew before/See a new world worth fighting for - Sonic finding himself on the Starfall Islands.
  • I'm here - Regardless of what happens, Sonic will be here for his friends.
  • In my hands I hold the ones I love - Sonic absorbing the power of his friends to recover from his Cyber corruption and fight Supreme.

Trivia[]

  • At 0:38 seconds into the video for the short version of the song on official Sonic social media, there is a mouse cursor that can be seen while Sonic is fighting the Soldiers.
  • Merry-Kirk Holmes was approached by Jun Senoue via email to work on "I'm Here".[11]
  • All recording sessions occurred over Zoom.[11]
  • "I'm Here" is the first main vocal theme of a mainline Sonic game to not be used in the credits.
  • Prior to the addition of the Jukebox in the first major content update, the full version of "I'm Here" was never heard in the base game despite being in the files.
  • As of The Final Horizon, "I'm Here" is the first main vocal theme of a mainline Sonic game since Sonic Colors to have an orchestrated version playing during a final boss.
    • It is also the first main vocal theme of a mainline Sonic game whose name, for its orchestral version, is not of the final boss, being entitled "I'm Here - Orchestra ver.". All previous final bosses have their names for the orchestrated version of the main theme song of their respective games: "His World" as "Solaris - Phase 2", Endless Possibility as "Super Sonic vs. Perfect Dark Gaia", and Reach for the Stars as "Nega-Wisp Armor - Phase 2".
      • Interestingly, it is the first one to play during the first phase and not the second, like the rest of them.
  • According to Tomoya Ohtani, the songs Kellin Quinn participated in are extremely popular among the players and on digital platforms such as Spotify, and thus he thought that participation from Quinn during the climax in The Final Horizon was a must. After careful discussion on whether to make a brand new song, or "to follow the 'if' pattern in Another Story," Ohtani decided to gamble on the latter, thinking that the player would feel excited when they heard the new version of the song they were used to.[12]
    • Ohtani mentioned that he let Tyler Smyth and Quinn handle the whole recording, telling them to "proceed in their style". Quinn later told Ohtani that Smyth "is a blast."[12]
  • To Ohtani, the original version tells a story to proceed with strong will while feeling vulnerable and anxious, while the Revisited version displays a coolness after overcoming all the trials.[12]
