Hyper Knuckles, also called Super Knuckles, is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a super form of Knuckles the Echidna, created by using either the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Power Rings or the Master Emerald.
History[]
Battle with Super Sonic[]
Knuckles first achieved this transformation when a confrontation with Sonic the Hedgehog pulled them both into another zone from that of Mobius Prime. Having collected seven Chaos Emeralds and fifty Power Rings each, both fighters super transformed into their super forms. After a brief battle, the two collided with each other with such force that the fabric of reality in the Zone they fought was torn apart, causing the entire dimension to explode. Both Hyper Knuckles and Super Sonic were expelled from the Zone and powered down, though Knuckles got a backup Chaos Emerald for Angel Island out of the struggle.
Melee with Mogul[]
Some time later, Knuckles would become Hyper Knuckles in a battle with Master Mogul alongside Super Sonic and Turbo Tails, using Mogul's Chaos Emeralds and Power Rings provided by the Ancient Walkers to power up. In the resulting battle, Mogul became imprisoned in the recently created Master Emerald.
Super Knuckles' Battle With Hunter[]
A year later, after losing his Chaos powers due to returning from the afterlife, Knuckles would unintentionally use the Master Emerald to take this form again without the aid of Chaos Emeralds, this time calling it "Super Knuckles". Shortly after transforming, he would confront the villainous echidna poacher, Hunter, once again and throw him an incredible distance off Angel Island, finishing him off for good.
Powers and abilities[]

While in his super form, Knuckles' innate talents are multiplied many times over. Being comparable to the immensely powerful Super Sonic in ability, Hyper Knuckles is one of the most powerful individuals on Mobius. According to Knuckles, his already impressive strength increases a thousandfold, and his speed is so much greater that it was outright stated to be incalculable in this state. This is proven true when he is shown to be able to keep up with even Super Sonic's reflexes and speed in their battle. His power has also grown so vast that he is capable of destroying an entire pocket dimension zone just by physically clashing with Super Sonic in their fight.[1] Hyper Knuckles was also able to go toe-to-toe with Master Mogul, one of the series’ most powerful chaos powered entities who rivaled the Ancient Walkers in power, with the help of Super Sonic and Turbo Tails.
As Hyper Knuckles, Knuckles' natural bond with the Chaos Force is also more open to him. Heightening the power of his already existing chaos abilities to another level, as well as granting him abilities he would not otherwise be able to utilize, such as channeling enormous surges of Chaos energy all at once. In addition, unlike his base state where Knuckles needs to channel chaos energy to fly, as Hyper Knuckles he gains the power to fly naturally, allowing him to fly through midair with complete ease. Like other super states, Hyper Knuckles is invulnerable to virtually any harm, making him nearly invincible.
Trivia[]
- In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) Super Knuckles was achieved by collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds and Hyper Knuckles was achieved by collecting the seven Super Emeralds.
- Super Sonic mentioned the form of Hyper Knuckles during his battle with Enerjak, asking his brainwashed friend if he was "afraid of being pink." It may have something to do with pink being considered a girl color.
